Wenrob: I would say go for it. Like I said above this lens very solid. Most reviews that have read rated this lens slightly better then the Sigma version of which I was first considering buying.

Alright Wen!!! Congrats!!! From what I have seen so far with this lens I'm sure you will not be disappointed. It's great wide open!!

Holy crap on a stick is this thing SHARP even wide open! So nice to have a little wider too!

I'm going to try and get group Valentine shots, if it works out I'll post them. Wish me luck, they see a camera and run.

First impressions:

Great focus. I've read a couple reviews (very few though) complaining about front focusing. That doesn't seem to be the case for my copy. I move focus points and so far have nailed 8 out 10. Considering my main subjects are 4yrs old and don't stand still those are excellent results.

It's sharp even at f/2.8. WOW! Cropping and converting my samples above to jpg doesn't do them justice they are much more impressive than that.

GREAT color and contrast!

A smidge slow in lower light but nothing to make me nuts or that can't be compensated for.

A little distortion at the wide end if you don't hold the camera level or my boy is right on top of me. Again easily compensated for.

What about you? What do you think so far?
