Part of an article from the local news (Omaha World Herald, 11/8/02):
"It's certainly not intended to be a reflection of the Sioux City airport's quality, but it will continue to be known in flying and travel circles by its longtime designation code: SUX.
Airport officials had petitioned the Federal Aviation Administration earlier this year for a change in its three-letter designation. The current one could be interpreted these days as unflattering.
But the FAA recently denied the request, citing the cost of a changeover.
Other airport codes:
Kearney Municipal Airport: EAR"
