I just got back from a week's vacation in Vermont, and I had an e-mail that I had won a prize in the May Disney Awards program:)

Unfortunately, I had 72 hours to claim the prize, and the 72 hours had expired while I was gone!:(

Oh well, if anyone is interested in Smuggler's Nocth Resort I have posted a short trip report on the community board.

I would email them! I'm sure if you explained that you were out of town, they would understand.

I had a similar experience lately. I sent in an application with the Disney Club for my family to be the "spokes family" in an up coming commercial. I GOT PICKED. Only problem was that the filming date was set for July 17 and 18. I am on a Family Reunion Cruise to Mexico on those dates and my Dad paid for the whole family. There was no "changing" the dates. I had to tell Disney that I really appreciated being called but that we could not do it. I got off the phone and cried. I am glad I am getting to go on the cruise but that would have been soooo neat and that trip would have been free too.

first of all congrats on getting picked for the commerical
too bad the dates dont work out better for you:( i know how you must feel what do you have to do to be in the running for the commerical? i always thought that would be so neat to do but i never knew what to do
thanks and have a great time in MExico

On the Disney Club web site they had a posting for only about 2 weeks inviting you so submit photos of all your family members and explain in 100 words or less what you would say to endorse the club if given the chance to be the spokes family in the commercial. They picked several families (I believe 9) and were flying you to Disneyland all expense paid to shoot. It's not like we never get to go to Disneyland living in Arizona but it would have been a really fun experience. Maybe some other century....

dmslush, I did e-mail her as soon as I got back, but I didn't get a reply.

I guess all those clickers out there should know that if you win a prize while you're a Disney World it will be forfeited. A rather odd policy for a site whose purpose is to help people travel! Personally, I think the "claim" period should be extended to accomodate people who travel on business or pleasure. (Or maybe I need to get a laptop!):D

I would love to know what your 100 words or less was that got you picked, if you would be kind enough to let us know :)

Cheers :)

Yes, DA expects you to let them know ahead of time when you will be on vacation. If you don't, and the drawing happens when you are away, you can't win a prize. You also risk having all your other entries for the month you are away disqualified for non-participation! But if they know when you will be gone, they will keep you in the program plus give you extra time to respond to the winning e-mails. I think this was explained in the FAQ and also discussed on the boards. But the FAQ didn't have a clear link, and the boards are optional, so a lot of people never knew about it. Since last month the site has been remodeled a bit so the FAQ (a.k.a. the rules) are easier to find, and it is easier to give vacation notice. Hopefully this will clear up some of the confusion in the future. (I sure hope!!!)

Reply to Pixie Dust:
I think the real kicker was not what I wrote but the pictures of my 5 year old. He has a cute look always like he's up to something (and he usually is.) His older brother is a 7 year old red head with a big smile. My husband and I are very middle age looking so it was not because of our pictures. The pictures I sent in were of them acting crazy at Disney World. My nephew was in a lot of commercials as a child and my youngest looks a lot like him. I am not the stage mom my sister is though - but I could go for a Disney commercial! I just wrote about how great the discounts were but I think my line they may have liked was "If Disney were meant for once in a lifetime, life after disney would get pretty boring." (They probably would have gotten a close up look at me and my husband and asked us to stand in the background!)

Redmic, I remeber reading a post from you where you withdrew from DA and had quite a few comments to make about the program at that time, too. It's a shame you didn't follow the rules and email Kris when you were going on vacation. I find it ironic that you won a prize from DA after slamming the program to begin with. Personally, I have to applaude Kris for remaining profressional and putting your name in the drawing.

IMO, that is what these boards are here for. For us to help one another, or for us to vent about ANY program that we want. None of us should have to come back here and defend anything we say about a program to another poster.

Laguna, I invite you to go back and read my prior post. I did withdraw from the program, but I certainly did not slam Kris or the program. I believe you have me confused with some others who may have responded to my post.

Since I did participate for the month of May, it was only fair that I was entered in that drawing. Obviously I don't expect to be entered in future drawings for the months that I did not participate.

Finally, it was my understanding that the reason we had to let Kris know we were going on vacation was that we were expected to participate daily and would be excluded from the program if our participation suddenly stopped without any explanation. I did not think the purpose was to extend the period of time that we had to claim a prize.

I let Kris know in advance that I was withdrawing, and then posted here to let others know of an "openning" since there were limited slots at the time. I don't know why your attitude is so hostile, hope your day gets better.

You're right dmslush and Redmic. I want to say more but I am refraining. Here's a :D to those who need a little more:sunny: in their life.
