I posted a joke on a thread yesterday about how some incompetent McDonalds & fast food workers are. Then all the people who can't count to three, took it personally and were actually attacking me

It was really surreal. Nice to read a thread where some people actually get it.

I have a funny McDonald's story...

I went through the drive-thru on my way to work one night. I should note that there is nothing but vending machines at my work place. Anyway, I ordered a plain hamburger. I get to work, ready to start my long night. I open my "hamburg" to find my roll, inside out (the white part on the outsides), with only 2 slices of cheese in between.

How did a plain hamburger suddenly become a cheese sandwich? Yuck. It was a hungry night at work.

Omg, I can't believe you just wrote this. One time when we were driving back from Disney, we stopped in Ga. at a McDonalds. This gentlemen ordered a cheeseburger plain. He came back to the counter a few min later, they did they same thing, they gave him just the bun and cheese.

It's really sad to see what fast food service has become. When I was in high school (early 80s; yes, I'm old) the McDonald's around corner from the school was considered the place to work. I worked there after school for most of my senior year. It seemed like everyone from the school wanted to work there but the manager was pretty selective about who he hired. Your best chance was if you knew someone who already worked there and they gave you a recommendation (my friend started there before me and then I got another friend hired later). The manager wanted people who were quick and motivated to do a good job. He used to post the top earners on register after the dinner rush which motivated us to keep our lines moving. Another manager would stand back in front of the registers and secretly encourage us to smile more. We kept that place running smoothly and were ranked as one of the top McDonald's in our county.

Now, you walk into a fast food place and no one smiles. They barely greet you at all. They get your order wrong and rarely say thank you. There's a McDonald's across the street from our nearby high school and hardly any of the workers are students. They're mostly older people who aren't fully-proficient in with English which makes ordering a real challenge. I went in there once and was surprised to see a high school student working. I asked her why more kids from the school don't want to work there. She said fast food places are considered the worst places to work. All the kids want to work in retail or places that don't involve grease like yogurt shops. It sure has changed....

Since everyone is sharing their favorite stories I have a good one. We pulled into McDonald's and wanted to order two quarter pounders with cheese. The window clerk informed us that they were out of burgers, not just quarter pounders...all burgers. On another instance, I ordered a Ceasar Salad but wanted ranch dressing. She said I would have to pay extra for the Ranch because it comes with Ceasar dressing. I said that is fine. She says, "your total is $36.54 would you please drive to the first window." $36.54? She says yes, I said all I ordered was a salad." She did not even realize she hit an extra button when adding me up, or repeating the price back.

These stories are making me laugh!

One time I was with a friend and we went through the McD's drive thru for a quick bite - and upon inspection of her burger, my friend realized that there was no bottom bun. Apparently an entire cheeseburger (I forget the name of it, but it's like the Quarter Pounder with lettuce, tomato, etc. on it) was assembled on no bottom bun. We went back through to get our missing bun and these people working were literally treating us like criminals out to get a free 1/2 bun. The manager came to the window and explained that they would never assemble a burger with just half of a bun and that our story is very fishy - like we were trying to pull one over on them. Puh-lease! I kindly let him know that I have way better things to do with my time than sit at a drive thru window arguing over a burger bun. We left without the bun, and a letter to the General Manager was never answered...so I never returned to that McDonald's.

Oh and for the record - I really dislike being asked to pull forward when there is no car behind me. Not because it puts me out or anything, but I have been forgotten not once, but TWICE sitting curbside waiting for food. I can't fudge my numbers at my job - why should a fast food place be able to fudge their numbers at the window?

I do love those french fries, though!!!!

LOL @ out of burgers! we went to krispy kreme and they were out of doughnuts. yes really! it was like middle of the work week on an afternoon.

OMG this cracked me up! I kind of had the same thing happen to me once. I ordered a plain cheeseburger and after about 5 minutes of waiting, the girl comes back and says "so do you want meat on it?". It was all I could do not to laugh in her face. What part of cheeseBURGER did she not understand?

Now see, I had a niece go thru the "I'm going to be a vegetarian " phase when she was a teenager. She would order a cheeseburger with NO MEAT! She liked all the cheese & toppings just didn't want meat LOL!!! My sister got more than a few questions ay the drive thrus. So I guess they really need to be sure what you want!!! (By the way, niece is no longer a vegetarian. )

I'm not sure they still have them, but I'd ordered one of the chicken flatbread sandwiches through the drive-thru on a busy church night. Got to church and found out there was no chicken on it.

Called the store, and the manager's reaction: I asked the person who made it, and she assures me she put chicken on it. Good thing I was at church, or my reaction might not have been so genteel.....

Boy did you mess up. I would have thrown out the middle, taken the bottom of the other burger and ask if there was a special on empty buns. not really.

We visited a Wendy's once--ordered a chicken nugget kid's meal.

Got home and there was a surprising lack of nuggets (or other main course) in said kid's meal.

And It seems that most of the time at McD's--when my dds order Apple Dippers--the caramel is always missing. So we check AT the window to make sure it is there.

As for the cheeseburger thing, DD (7) will order a hamburger with cheese on it. Some people are fine, and know she wants a cheeseburger. But some will ask if she wants a cheeseburger, and she will tell them no!-she wants a hamburger. So they ask if she wants cheese...and she says yes (and by this time SHE'S irritated )

I had a friend in HS who was going thru a vegetarian phase and she would order Big Macs, hold the beef. I thought it sounded truly gross, but then again, even with the patties I would have passed on a BM.

The McD's across from Old Town on 192 is really nice, at least for the morning crew. We used to order every day almost, and the girl at the window was always really nice to us. And now that it's few and far between getting breakfast, she still remembers us and our order.

Ever since they introduced the Sweet Tea, I've had to take a drink of it before I pull away from the window. More than once it's tasted like it's been sitting there overnight. I was such a pain.... if the drive thru tea wasn't good, i'd go inside, if that wasn't good, I'd get a soda or wait for fresh tea to be made. non-fridge tea only lasts a few hours before it starts tasting sour.

There's a McD's a bit closer on 192, but I refuse to eat there anymore. All the drinks taste like soap. And more than once, they've said they can't make something because they don't have any left. Like tried to order two crispy chicken wraps and couldn't because there was only enough chicken to make one grilled chicken wrap. Granted it was late at night, but they're open 24hrs.

Yeah, it's called fermentation...Iced-tea wine, now *that's* good eatin' .

Ewwwwwww, I've had that happen before, where there are off-flavors in restaurant-prepared drinks. I hate to tell you though, you're not even safe when you get something bottled! One time I got a bottled Coke at a service-station off of I-95 on a road-trip to SC and it tasted like GASOLINE, I kid you not. Gack.

We do the same at Jack in the Box (won't go to McDs b/c their fries aren't vegetarian thanks to what they do during the prep process at the plant) when they have their sourdough burgers. Order them without the meat, AWESOME!

Really? I had my first job at JintheB in, hmm, would have to be '85, and I chose the one farthest away from the school I could possibly get, due to the horrid embarrassment I would have felt, if any of my schoolmates had come in to see me in my uniform. And I was in CA, too!

How different things can be...

At my school, working at the mall was the absolutely coolest job you could have, IF you had to work (which was inherently UNcool to begin with).

Each one of us ordered with veggie patty, probably mentioned that we're vegetarian. Well, I must have skimmed the new thing I ordered too quickly, as it turns out it had bacon in it. Which they gave me, on the veggie patty.

One time I was in So. Cal. with my vegetarian sister when she ordered a meatless burger at McDonald's. The guy taking her order said he'd have to charge her extra for that! It took a bit of arguing before that was resolved. My sis said it's much easier to order a burger without meat where she lives in Washington State...I guess there are a lot more vegetarians there.
