I have always longed for those infamous pin codes but have never recieved one myself. Now I finally got one and we cant use it. :sad1: We decided to go for a short 3 day trip at the beginning of December. My husband really wanted to stay on site but we decided it would just be too much this trip. Unless of course we got a great deal on the Paradise Pier with a pin!

Well a few weeks ago my oldest son (10 years old) started not feeling well. I thought he had a stomach virus. He seem to get worse over the weekend before Halloween. That Monday morning I took him to our doctor and expected him to say just keep giving him fluids and that he had a virus. Well that didnt happen. We ended up in the ICU of the Phoenix Childrens Hospital and he has been diagnosed with Type 1 (juvinelle) Diabeties. We spent 6 days in the hospital and he is doing really well now.

But there is no way we can afford to go to Disneyland this winter. (Besides the fact that we couldnt have him miss any more school) So I cancelled the trip.

So wouldnt you know it. I go to my mail box and there is that darn pin code! Oh well. It was for Dec 1 to the 17th.
Honestly I really dont care that much, I just thought it was ironic.

I am just so thankful to God that he is doing well now. It is a life changing diagnoses but we are hanging in there.

I hope it is a magical trip for your family!

Edited: I don't know how I misread your post so badly! For some reason I thought you had planned a trip before your son got sick which was cancelled and then got a PIN code to do a new trip. I'm so sorry and hope that your son continues to get better and you'll be able to take a trip in the near future. I'm dealing with gestational diabetes right now myself and can only imagine what a major lifestyle change you have had to make for your son. Apologies once again!

I'm sorry about your son's illness! :( How disappointing to miss the trip, but I'm glad he's doing better.

 Sorry to hear about your son but also glad to hear that he is doing better! Phx Children's Hospital is the BEST!

I know that it is a downer to have tp cancel the trip, but you can always go again once things get better with your son.

Aw, many hugs being sent your way, as well as prayers for your son and your family. Sounds like he is doing o.k., but I understand how you can feel the irony of this situation. Hang in there, and maybe another time you will have a chance to have an opportunity for another pin code.

Good luck to all of you, and - :grouphug:

**hugs** I'm so sorry your son and family are going through this. It does get better and calmer in time. **hugs again**

How scary for you! I'm glad your son is doing better now. It is a lifelong challenge but thankfully, the meds & daily testing are improving al the time. You sure have your priorities in order. Your son's health & schooling come first. That Disneyland trip will be even more special when you finally get there.

 I'm glad your son is doing better. I'm sorry you had to cancel this trip. Many more to look forward to, though. :flower3:

Thanks everyone. Every day feels like a new challenge but also feels like a blessing. I am going to start planning for a Christmas time trip for next year and will plan to make it extra special. Im sure by this time next year traveling wont be any where near as scary as it sounds right now. Its all just so new and overwhelming at times.

I know that I have read that Disneyland is very helpful with differant medical issues. Does anyone know if they offer the carb information at City Hall for medical purpose? (We need to know the amount of carbs in what he eats to know how much insulin he needs)

My sister is an insulin dependent diabetic (type 1, but the disease didn't manifest itself until she was 20). When we went to WDW last year she was able to ask our waiters about carb info on the things she wasn't sure about and they could always find an answer for her, so I'd imagine DL would be about the same.

Also, as he gets more used to his medication doses and testing you'll all kind of figure out what foods work well, and which particular foods cause an insulin spike for him personally, so knowing every single carb in a meal becomes less of an issue.

I am VERY sorry your son and your family have to deal with this (and that you had to cancel your trip), but my sister's been a diabetic for 10 years now, and honestly it doesn't interfere in her life or slow her down at all, including our vacations.
