this supposedly self guided sheet has me completely stumped.

DD is supposed to come up with a short vowel word - four letters that is the opposite of "to freeze".

Easy right? Heat comes to mind quickly, dosen't it? well, the "self guided" boxes that you write it in indicate that you need two short letters then two tall letters to finish the word, like two short- se two tall letters -ll would make the word sell to fit in the box, if only that was the opposite of "to freeze"!

Any suggestions?

BTW letters like Pj are considered tall letters or the other answer we have for something else is wrong!

Nice try, but the "aw" are not "tall letters" like they are supposed to be. this is the dumbest homework assignment ever!

Well, don't I feel stupid!!! I think I will give back my college degree now! Thank you very much!

I just was so stuck on Thaw I could not think of melt!

"boil", maybe?

Whoops, that doesn't fit the pattern, it would be "tall letter, two short letters, tall letter" so nevermind me.

This is the first I've heard of "tall letter" "short letter" stuff. And I have a 15 and 11 year old.

Me either and I have a 13, 11 and 7 year old and I've taught in Kindergarten and volunteered in other grades.

Another dumb assignment is my dd's whole middle school has to come up with a community project dealing with 9-11 and it's due the end of October. Now why this subject and what in the world are we going to do to fulfill the assignment??? How do you have a 13 yr old do a community project *by herself* dealing with 9-11 in October???? :confused3

Sometimes I really hate school stuff especially when it's idea specific like 9-11. Give her an assignment to do a community project but don't make all 500 kids do it on 9-11. :furious:

How about "stupid" (assignment)?... oh, that isn't four letters. Or "dumb"...hmmm that won't work either :rolleyes1 .
Or "eeek!" (I have *how* many more years of this?!?)

Yay for all the folks who thought of "melt", all I could think of was "burn" or "boil", neither one of which would work.

agnes!

melt (2 short, 2 tall)

thaw (2 tall, 2 short)
