Its been 11 years since I had a newborn, so I don't trust my memory of well baby check-ups. But, it seems to me that dd went at 2 weeks, 4 weeks and 6 weeks. Is that still the way it is done?

My grandchild's ped doesn't seem to think these visits are important. She went at less than 1 week and again a week later because of something her other grandmother was concerned about. Her next appointment is at the beginning of September. Is this normal?

I said I would not interfere but am thinking of talking them into letting me get her an appointment with the ped that dd goes to. (wouldn't do it without their ok, but I am just worried)

My ped had me bring in the babies for the first visit within 7 days, then again in a month and again at 2 months. So that would kinda fit with the schedule you are describing.

My kids were premies so they had alot of well baby visits. As long as the kid is gaining weight, I don't have an issue with it.
Buy them a scale.;)

This is the schedule recommended by American Academy of Pediatrics. My Pediatrician followed this one too.

After the baby is born, the next visit should be 2-3 days after bringing the baby home (for breast-fed babies) or when the baby is 2-4 days old (for all babies discharged from a hospital before 2 days old). For experienced parents, some practitioners will delay the visit until 1-2 weeks of age.

Thereafter, visits should occur at the following points:

By 1 month (although experienced parents can wait until the next time, 2 months)
2 months
4 months
6 months
9 months
1 year
15 months
18 months
2 years
3 years
4 years
5 years
6 years
8 years
10 years
Each year after that until age 21

MYOB, Grandma. You said you would not interfere - so don't. I mean that lovingly, but firmly.

If you are really concerned, call the nurse in YOUR 11 year old's pediatrician's office and ask her what the office recommends for newborn visits. For example, I remember the DDs got shots at 2, 4 and 6 months, so I am assuming they had a newborn checkup and then went at 2 months.

I had a little dustup with my own mother when I was pregnant, which ended with me saying, "When I need 30 year old medical advice you will be the first person I will call. Until then, I am doing what the books and the doctor tell me to do." It was a tense moment!!

Really, butt out...please!

None of my babies had well-child visits at 2, 4, and 6 weeks. I can't remember exactly when they went, but they saw the doctor when they were a few days old, then about two months. My kids are now 10, 5, and 3.

I found a suggested schedule here...

I know, I know! You are completely right, but it IS SO HARD!! I owe my mom such an apology for thinking she was a butt in!! :lmao:

Ok, so I guess at a few days and then 6 weeks isn't so bad. She seems fine. The doctor had neck surgery so he isn't in the clinic and that's one reason she is skipping coming in at 4 weeks and I am thinking he told them to call and see one of the other dr's if there was a problem or concern.

Thanks, dissers! I feel better now. I promise to butt out. -----at least until the next thing they do that is different than I did. (after all I was the perfect mother, you know ;) )

My kids are 5yo and almost 3yo and they did not have visits at 2 weeks or 6 weeks. Really, as long as you see the baby is growing, eliminating, eating, not jaundiced why the need for all the visits? My kids went on the schedule that the PP posted from the AAP, with the exception of my son needing daily heel pricks for jaundice issues, but that was discovered before he left the hospital.

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: Atta girl!!!

I know, I know - it is going to be SOOOOO hard for me to follow my own advice when I am a grandmother!!!!!! Will you come back and tell me the same thing when I post about it a few years from now???:rotfl:

My 6 month old had the following appointments: 2 weeks, 2 months, 4 months, 6 months.

My DD is 7 months, and this is the schedule we've followed, too. We go again at 9 months. So depending on how old your grandbaby is, Sept could be her 2 month appt. :confused3

By the way, I see you're in Hattiesburg ~ we live in Oak Grove! Does your granddaughter live here too?
I :lovestruc our ped at Wesley if you ever need a one!
