Been snowing all day. Blech.
Dr's appt. went OK. He gave me some Nexium samples for my heartburn. He wants me to try it a few days and if it works, he'll call in a prescription for me. Also, if my cough doesn't go away (he says it may be coming on from the heartburn) call and he'll call in an antibiotic.

Junior has to go in for another MRI. I guess they need more pics or something. He is NOT happy. The first one was horrible and he has a huge bruise from the needle they used. So, now we have to schedule that, and reschedule his dr. appt. that was supposed to be on Thursday.

Welcome home, Deena.

Glad you liked the cookies, Lily. Which others are you going to try?
I made the Pepperkaker ones yesterday....not too impressed with them, bu they are supposed to sit for 3 days ...maybe then they will be better.

Sherry sneated.
Hope the meds worked for you. Dave got some samples of ....ack, I can't remember which ones, will have to ask him tonight. They made his stomach hurt though, so they are trying him on another.

:( Sorry about Junior's MRI......hope this one goes better.

Krista that is weird about Ray. He normally only appears around Dec but seems very odd he would miss things he had paid for. Does anyone know if he made it on the cruise?

Deena - Ray was on the cruise. I talked to someone at the big meet on Saturday who had also been on the cruise, but she said Ray wasn't feeling too great on the cruise. I gave her a note to give to Ray if she saw him, and it had John's cell # on it. So far, no call. I guess the odd thing to us is that Ray posted so much here on the DIS and in other places about MouseFest. We just hope he is okay. The last known Ray "sighting" was at a MouseEarVacations dessert party - I think on Friday night. But I'm not sure who it was who saw him.

Wow, Deena!! I cannot imagine that she tried to put all of us into that table!! That would have been awful!

Btw, Alan... I think #1 has the slight edge for me today. I really love the pics of your girls :)

Sherry, hope youa re feeling better soon. Sorry about Junior's MRI :( Good luck

Very strange about Ray... hope all is well... I sure missed seeing him this year!

Nancy, next: Minted Snowballs and the Chocolate Whoppers are on my wish list. It doesn’t look like it will happen any time soon. We have 6 inches of snow in 2 hours and more is still falling. DH is still not home from work and I barely made it home so I won’t be going back out tonight. Pepperkaker cookies? Not sure about those ones. I didn’t really look at the ingredients if you posted them. The name kind of reminds me of a type my Mom made caller Pfeffernussen. I am the ONLY one in my family who liked them as they really harden and are like jaw breakers. Mmmm. We lost the recipe over time though. :(

Auntie Claire must not be used to huge groups of all adult-sized people (except for the 2 little bitty cutie pies with us). At first I thought she was joking when she started trying to cram chairs into every inch of table space, but apparently she wasn't  . I was so glad when the other family offered to move ::yes::.
I think the other family was probably more glad to move! :earseek: I think we skeered 'em.

Strange about Ray. Hope he is ok.

Sherry, hope the Nexium works. I had to go up to the next dose from 20 mg. That is what my doc started me with which didn’t work at all for me. So sorry to hear about Junior’s MRI. That must be getting stressful. I didn’t know they used a needle for the MRI. No thank you please!

Hey, what do you think of my new signature picture, folks?

I'm feeling human again. Considering I've slept about 30 hours in the past two days, I'd say I should feel human again. I don't think I've ever been as weak as I was the past two days. I didn't even have the energy to get out of bed to turn my bedroom light out.

I thought Auntie Claire was fine as a waitress. She kept on bagging us for having our elbows on the table, and she got me for tattling on Lily (I can't even remember what I tattled on Lily for). It sure was an interesting meal, I'll say that. It was fun to hang with everyone!

Deena, I got an adorable picture of one of your little ones--I can't remember which one. He was looking over the back of his his chair, and it's just a great picture of him. When I get my act together, I'll send it to you :)

It sure was a lot of fun meeting everyone, though. I have yet to meet a DISer I didn't like :)

Well, that's all for now. Gotta go fold the laundry.

I don't think I posted that one.....good thing. You might all hate me if you wasted your time on it ;)

Pfeffernusse Better Than Store-Bought

Recipe By :Gladys Dinletir
Serving Size : 50 Preparation Time :0:00
Categories : Cookies Formed

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method
-------- ------------ --------------------------------
2 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1/4 teaspoon grated nutmeg
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground anise seeds
1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
2 eggs
3/4 cup packed dark brown sugar
1/2 cup dark honey
1 teaspoon lemon extract
2 tablespoons hot milk
3/4 cup powdered sugar
2 tablespoons very finely chopped candied lemon or
orange peel, or candied citron, chopped
with one extra tablespoon of flour -- optional

Sift together flour, salt, pepper, and spices. Set aside.
Beat eggs for 3 minutes until very light. Beat in sugar until fluffy. Beat in honey and lemon. Incorporate the dry ingredients gradually, together with candied fruit.
Wrap dough in flour dusted plastic wrap and chill for at least 1 hour.
Flatten dough and cut into 50-55 pieces. Form into balls and put on floured waxed paper. Let stand at room temperature for 24 hours to harden.
Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Grease and flour two cookie sheets.
Combine milk and powdered sugar to make icing.
Brush icing over all exposed surfaces of cookies.
Place cookies 1-1 1/2" apart on the sheets and bake for 15-20 minutes until firm. They will be pale. Cool on rack.
Store airtight and let them mellow for 3 weeks or more. They will keep indefinitely but will be extremely hard first. To soften slightly, place a piece of fresh apple in the cookie container.

Lily, stay safe in the snow! It wasn't very pretty here and Luis finally walked in at about 7:30 (nearly an hour late). I hope the storm lightens up for y'all.

Karen, I noticed your new sig pic before I even saw you ask about it. Looks great! Glad you are feeling better! Sleep helps out a ton!

Nancy, you aren't helping here ;) Actually I loved a lot of the recipes... Luis would shoot me if I baked anything right now. He informed me that he actually gained weight at WDW even though we walked a ton

Nancy! I think I love you for finding that recipe! It sounds like the one I miss.

JRKaren, glad you are feeling better. Nice siggie.

Elaine, no cookies? :earseek: I know he told me he lost a good amount of weight too. I guess I understand as you have both worked so hard to get where you are. But, no cookies? :earseek:

LOL, Lily, the problem is we were given some cookies for Christmas, so for now I can't add to it. He's lost about 65 pounds over the last year or so... puts me to shame with that ;) However, he wasn't too thrilled that he gained while at WDW (especially knowing I wound up losing a pound or two), so I'll be a good wife and not add to the junk food for a while :)

Wow, Elaine- 65 pounds is a LOT! I had no idea...

The two of you look terrific now. How nice to have a partner to help you lose and get healthier.

STAY AWAY FROM THE COOKIES!!! THEY'RE EVIL!!!!!!!!!!!

He's done really good so far! Actually his weight loss sparked me to do mine. I couldn't deal with the thought of him weighing less than me ;) so I started hard this summer and am down just about 43 pounds now. It really does help that he's there doing it with me, and vice versa. Of course with the way we ate at WDW, no one would think we were trying to be healthier :p

Cookies are evil... but oh so good!!!! :teeth:

I am tired and am going to bed... g'night all!

Oh yeah! It's all Nancy's fault!

Elaine, Well guys always lose faster. You have done a great job too my dear! You are lucky though for sure to have a partner while you are going through this. It is not easy for sure!

Finished pulling the pics from the camera. Will try to upload tomorrow or Wednesday.
Good night all.

Cookies are NOT evil!! Shame on you for spreading that rumor!
Christmas isn't Christmas without cookies....:p

Lily...glad I could help with that recipe. Hope it is like the one you remember.
I haven't tried it, but it has been in my file for awhile. Got it from someone on my cookie newsgroup. She said they were great!! Let me know if you try them.

Sherry, thanks for the care.....love the confetti ;) Since I always use it, I always open cards carefully :teeth:
Good night everyone.

Good morning, everyone!

I'm going back to work today. Gotta finish getting ready. Have a great day, everyone!

JellyrollsKaren

Morning all! Cold and snowy again... supposed to be in the teens tonight for a low. I love winter

Lily, I agree... guys do seem to lose weight faster. And they also fluctuate more than women (from what I see/hear) on a regular basis. Bad thing for Luis is that he has kind of reached a plateau... not sure what to do to help that.

Okay Nancy, I will give you that cookies at Christmas are a must. I could bake once my brother and his wife come to town and leave the cookies with them... at least they won't be at my house :p

Speaking of which, my brother comes "home" on Friday :hyper:

Yes, a sibling that I really love dearly AND enjoy being around (go figure ;)) I hate that he lives in NJ and I don't get to see him that much. I used to love hanging out with him and his friends... a lot of his friends are now our friends, and unlike another sibling of mine  he likes it that way :)

Morning Karen! Hope your day back at work goes well!

Morning!

Your welcome, Nancy. Thanks for yours. I remembered the confetti and didn't spill any this time. :teeth:

Liz, thanks for your card, too. And the cute snowman. He's hanging proudly on the tree. :)

Got snow and its cold, but no snow day. Boys were not happy.

Lily, they used a needle for the MRI because they had to inject a dye. It was not pleasant and left a huge bruise, and Junior is not pleased they have to do all that again.

JRKaren, have a good day at work.

Staying home in my nice warm house and doing laundry. :)

Morning Ya Yas!

You know Nancy, that is just what we say. Must have cookies for Christmas! MMmmm!

Karen, enjoy your first day back from vacation. :flower:

Elaine, glad you can look forward to a sibling visit. I envy you. I wish I had a better sibs group. We live so close, but visit so infrequently.

Everyone out there in Ya Ya land, enjoy your day. Many schools are closed around here. DS#2 used the snowblower last evening, but you can't tell that this a.m. Off to see if I can get out of the garage, as I just must get to work.
