However KIMMIE!!!!!!!!! Lookie at my counter
That's what I've been using since I'm counter ignorant when it comes to putting my own in. :p

HAPPY 9th BIRTHDAY TO JULIAN!! I had the strangest dream last night. I had to change Cameron back into a baby for some reason and when it was time to change him back to a 15 yo, I didn't want toooo!!! Sigh.

The church service talk here has been interesting!! I had no idea that some churches had two different types of services! We are fairly new to the church we've been attending, so I still know very little about it, but I think all three of their morning services are the same. I believe the only reason they have three as opposed to one is because of the size of the building. They're in the process of building a new home and when that one is completed, I believe it will go to one service.

A small group of "charter members" having such influence over an entire congregation... ugh. Doesn't seem the way a church family should behave. I'm sorry there's been upheaval at your church Pam. :(

Rose Mary, how are you feeling after your spill? You should definitely squeeze in a day for the Girl's Getaway!!! :Pinkbounc I would love to have the opporunity to meet you and give you a real hug!

Hello to TC, Paula, Deena, Beth, Sherry...

Happy Birthday Julian!
Hi Ya Yas! Trying to read, but figure by the time I ketchup everyone will be ten pages on. I still have to send off my package. I'm looking for something to put it in and I hope to have it off soon then. Ketchup later...
:sunny:

:sunny: Afternoon all! Still limping around trying to make people feel sorry for me and it's not working. :guilty:

Anyhoo, Hey Kimmi! What days are you gonna be there? Wanna schedule
so I can meet as many as possible.

I'm with you on the ketch-up thing. think I just have to go on from here.

Ok, I'm off for the afternoon and tomorrow. Going to Orlando and may slip by and see Mickey :teeth: .

Peace out!

(oh, oh - Rose has Elaineitis!!)
BTW - anyone know who got 'the boot' last night on AI???!?!?!

I grew up in a very small rural church that practiced both types of music: country AND western (thank you Blues Bros)

Now we are in a larger church that had 3 worship services and 2 Sunday School hours.

Now that we have built a larger sanctuary we have two services with worship and Sunday School going on simultaneously. You choose which hour you wish to attend.

However, both of those services are the same style other than the presence of a small orchestra in the second service.

We sing standard/classic hymns but also do a lot of praise choruses also. (Not too lively of course, we are Baptist after all.) The choir specials are a lot from the Brooklyn Tabernacle choir as well as more traditional pieces.

The large Methodist church I mentioned earlier has more than one sanctuary, so they can do a contemporary and a traditional service at the same time in different locations.

And now that I have demonstrated what a good and faithful churchgoer I am, I will have to add...

Kimmie, of course this board isn't an appropriate place for those pictures. Still, if you went to the trouble to get the camera and everything you can find my email address under my profile. :teeth:

Whoops, and also Happy Birthday Julian!!!

I've ketchupped, just don't have much to say right now.
I wanna be done with work today. Was looking mighty sunny here. I wanna be at girls getaway weekend. Now I am hearing about storm stuff too. I am tired of shoveling snow. Not sure I want to trade it for rain either. Sunny and mild would be my request for a time. Wishing tomorrow were the weekend.

Deena, I take it y'all haven't ever experienced that before... just your hair feels like ice until it warms up outside... doubt it could break off or antyhing, though I haven't tried :p

LOL Kim... you are such the mooch!!!

Rose Mary, how many days can you take off work (if any)? I know those of us who will be there will be there Mother's Day weekend :)

(oh, oh - Rose has Elaineitis!!)
 Naaa... it was Kimmie who started it all years ago! :p

I did want to say our church has 5 services to choose from in a weekend... and of course all just have to do with the size of the congregation. I doubt we could ever fit everyone who goes into one or two services. Most Catholic churches do have about 5 or so a weekend though so that seems standard.

Awwww! What a sweet guy! Thank you Alan!! I did slave over them so... :p

Come to the girlie weekend Lily!

Hi everyone! Sorry I've been scarce since my return from Dallas. I've been busy at work, and I haven't been feeling so hot the past couple of days. And yesterdays snow.

Anyways, with all this church talk around here, I want to throw something out there and get people's opinions on something. I am a church-going Catholic. My cousin has asked me to be her son's sponsor when he is confirmed in May. He is only eight years old. Confirmation is a sacrament that Catholics normally receive when they are in high school--not second grade. I received when I was in 10th grade after a two year course. My nephew is receiving his in October--he will be in 11th grade. I think that eight years old is much too young to take all of the teachings that go into it. I did some research, and an article I found a Boston Catholic Church website said that confirmation typically happens when a person is over 13.

On top of that, I don't feel like I have a connection to my cousin's son. Because of a divorce, I've only known my cousin and her son for three years. I don't feel like I know this kid very well, nor do I have a connection to him. I do not think that I will ever have any connection with him. I find him to be very disrespectful towards me when I am around him, and just plain fresh (I know some of that is his age). I don't know if I can take this kind of role in his life when I have six nieces and nephews in my life who are my pride and joy, and who will always come first.

My cousin has been giving me guilt trips about it, saying that I'm the only good Catholic that she knows. (My cousin is really good at putting me on guilt trips, and at times, she makes it very difficult for me to be her cousin--she has abandonment issues, and she takes it out on me at times).

I just don't know how I can accept being his sponsor when I don't agree that he is even going to receive this sacrament.

Any opinions?

Karen

Elaine and Kimmie sneated.

Isn't Lily going to be at the girls weekend? She has a countdown in her siggie, and I heard that someone offered her a bathtub to sleep in.

WHOA!! Has the church CHANGED!!! I grew up Catholic--10 years of Catholic education (including kindergarten!). 2nd grade was First Communion when I was a kid, not Confirmation!!! The bishop came every other year to confirm all the 3rd and 4th graders and I was confirmed in the spring of 1961 at the age of 9. All I remember is praying that I wouldn't trip going up and down the altar steps and some ugly old man in fancy vestments put his hand on my head and declared me a "soldier of Christ". We had no special course or classes about it--it was a given. You got confirmed in 3rd or 4th grade and got a middle name. I knew my sponsor as the mom of one of my classmates, but I don't think I ever saw her again after confirmation! Obviously didn't mean a whole heck of a lot to me! I doubt it will mean much to your nephew, either. While it will probably only intensify the guilt trips she lays on you, I would decline your cousin's request. It isn't fair to you or the kid when you KNOW you wouldn't fulfill your role throughout his life.

Yippeeeeeeee, Lily is spring flinging with us!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I stopped at the store on the way home tonight and thought I finished up my exchange shopping. Ooopps, I forgot something really, really important!! So, I will be posting my package tomorrow or Saturday. At least it's not the VERY last minute!!

Gotta put dinner on the table and then finish getting my pix organized for Dave to take to get printed tomorrow. and :grouphug:

Kimmie... I talked with Alan earlier, and he says that new bedroom outfit of yours is lovely :p
(couldn't resist)

JRKaren, I am so with you!!! Confirmation at 8??? My goodness that's when we were just receiving communion and going to confession. 8 years old??? Gack!! Way too young in my opinion... honestly I think they need to bump it up to high school or adult ages. I know my sister wouldn't have been confirmed if it werent' for my family pushing her (7th grade I think).
With that said, I would be his sponsor... only in that I think a sponsor should help guide and nurture one's faith. I would do it in hope that you can help him grow as he gets older, and help keep him "straight" ;)
I still think it is totally wrong to do it at that age though!

Woo hoo!!!! Lily will be arriving hours after us!!!!!

Bethie, trust me you aren't out of the loop... that's still the norm here at least for all the ages with the sacrements. At least that's what the boys that I have watched grow up have gone through. I ought to ask Anthony when he will be confirmed though. I dont' recall that happening yet and he's 14.

Hush it, Nancy!!!! It's snowing here :(

Went to choir practice, and came home just in time to watch the trailer for Star Wars Ep. 3 :hyper:
I have chills from it still ;)

I need to find something to wear tomorrow at work... not sure what I want yet, and then off to wash my face since I feel grubby from biking. Need to get this done in 15 mins or less when Luis comes up :)

This is going to be a quick EIEIO post.......

I am going to have a better weekend than planned!!! It has been snowing pretty good here and even more by my grandma's....so taking mom to see Grandma is officially cancelled!! It works out quite nicely now as Greg and I will pick my mom and her hubby up on Saturday, take them to lunch, then to the airport!! Methinks this is the perfect amount of time to spend with them!!

On another quick note...I could really use some :wizard: about this job I interviewed for today. It seemed to go quite well, and I will be seeing them again for a second interview to meet with the owners! Any extra :wizard: that couold be spared and sent this way would be greatly appreciated!! I guess next week the owners are headed to San Fransico, so the second interview will happen sometime after that......please keep the old fingers, toes, eyes, legs and any other appendages that may deem useful in being crossed for me. I really appreciate it!!

Off to get some sleep....that is one thing that has been really lacking here!!

    to you one and all....promise to do a better ketchup tomorrow when it is not so darn crazy!!

:wave2:

Gee Nancy, that's just balmy!
Alberta clipper is coming here and we have snow warnings for rush hour traffic tomorrow. Snow and Brrrrr!
Elaine, do you read as you bike? I do not but think I should.

JRKaren, you need to do what you feel is right for you with the Confirmation thing I'm thinking. You might want to consider it an honor that your cousin respects you in this way to ask for your support. I'm back in the era as Beth where we were about 8 when we did First Communion and we did Confirmation at 14. I wish that they would have done that here for my kids, as I think they would have participated a bit differently. They did not continue with this part as they needed to be quite older and they let it fall by the side sad to say. I received a crucifix ring for Christmas from my brother the year I made my Confirmation. He gave me quite an inspiration and he was not even my sponsor. I still wear that ring some 40 years later! Sorry I could not provide more guidance, just that maybe you might be more of an inspiration than you could imagine if you go with it. If you do not, go forward with a clear mind. It has to feel right for both of you.

Liz! Sorry you posted as I was working on my post. You asked for it, you got it! Good news for you with your Mom. Perfect thing it seems you get snow and a good weekend. Hope the snow we are getting gives us a good weekend.

Good night all.

Good morning all. Quick hi here. I might be very busy today so I possibly won't be around as much.

Enjoy the time you have with your mom, Liz. I know it can be difficult to be around her, but try to enjoy it just the same. And good luck to you with the job!!!!

Lily, I do read when I am on my bike. It's a very much "me" time, and I actually use it to not only read fictional books, but devotional reading. Just a good time to think and relax the brain I think. The biking itself becomes so mindless for me, tha I am glad to have this time to read/think and all that. Works better than music I think.

I'm off to do things... see y'all later :)
