LOL Kristy I never had my finger pricked, they always took if from the vein in my arm. There really are not to many tests involved. In the beginning they take some blood then--I think about 20 weeks they make you have a glucose tolerance test to make sure you dont have GD (gestational diabetes). If test goes okay they take the blood when you get there, you drink some orange stuff and then 1 hour later they take your blood again to make sure your sugar is fine. On my last pg mine was high so I had to do the 3 hour test. Again take your blood when you get there, drink the stuff and come back every hour for 3 hours and have it taken so they can monitor it. My last test was okay.
We may have to pm about the strep test they do close to the end. Its not painful but its not all that fun. Let me just say you will be quite suprised where they check.

OMG Kristy, you have to be standing or sitting? Yeoowww!
I'm with Deena, ask for some drugs!!!! Listen, I am such a whimp when it comes to needles I had my DS natural. No Way, No how were they sticking a needle into this back! Even now after having gone thru natural childbirth I would not have an epidural.
That's probably why I only have ONE child, LOL! I can't even watch when they have to draw blood, I just cringe. Last time I had it done the nurse kept asking if I was ok. I just wanted to tell her to get it overwith already!
Deena, I don't remember having a strep test????????????

I think its fairly new Rose. I had one with ds Evan who is 3 and one with Connor who is 15 months but I didnt have one with either of my teens.
Rose I did ask for an epidural every time, LOL. Had one with first. Second ds came flying out, no time even for my Dr to get there, lol. They waited to long with ds #3 --once my water is broke stand back and prepare to catch a baby. With ds #4 they gave me one before they broke my water so it worked--kinda. Didnt work at first and had to have extra med in it. Then it worked on one side so I had to roll over. But it did help me hold ds in until dr got on his catchers mitt.

LOL, Deena. I can just picture that. Doctor standing back with face mask on, baseball glove at the ready!!!! Stand back folks, here he comes............................

I know it does :p but thats close to it. With ds #2 I went from 5cm to babies head coming out in 15 minutes. I kept telling them the contrax were really bad and they FINALLY called the anes. to come and poke my back with that big long needle. But I had one contrax where my lower parts just kept pushing. I put my hand down there and someone was waving back to me ;)

You know its very funny now but then I was like DRUGS!!! WHERE ARE MY DRUGS!! Nurse said sorry lady its way to late for that--Whats his name? lol

Strep test......there????? OMG!! See....paps every year....don't bother me a bit......but that darn needle makes me faint every time if I'm sitting up. Gotta lay down to get it done. I always warn the nurses that I will pass out if they don't get in there and just do it. No telling me about feeling a little prick or sting. To heck with that!
Yah....friend of mine told me the three needles in the back before the epi was the worst pain. I think I'll be going natural or one of those water birth thingies. Oh....and husband has said no way he's cutting the cord. He'll pass out then!

your stories have me rolling on the floor. THANKS!!!

back to packing :-(

LOL, Kristy! And I was just gonna tell Deena maybe we should cut the childbirth stories or we might make you change your mind about ever having one, haha!! My DH was into the whole childbirth thing from beginning to end. He watches when they draw blood and everything. He couldn't wait to cut the cord, stood their watching and waiting for that baby to pop out! Funny how any other time you would be dying of embarassment at people looking at your nakedness but, when in labor all I could think of was "LET'S GET THIS OVERWITH PEOPLE!!"

Kristy-- I have to say just one more thing. On the strep test, it wasnt the "front door" they did for the test. It was the "back door".

Evening all!! LOL!!!! Love the birthing stories!! I got one too--1st baby, husband was Coast Guard and out to sea for most of the pregnanacy. Got home 5 days before due date and luckily, DS was 10 days late!! Looooooooooong sllloooooooow labor at Balboa Naval Hospital (San Diego) where they wouldn't let me sit up, wouldn't let me roll onto my side, wouldn't get me an extra pillow....yada, yada, yada.....finally came and broke my water for me and things progressed nicely. Afterwards, my husband tells me it was very interesting, he was glad he was able to be there, and I smelled just like a deer being gutted.
  I think that was a compliment in his mind--he LOVED to hunt! But, my goodness, have things changed a lot since mine!! I had one blood draw at the very beginning and then nothing more! Even for DD and that wasn't a military hospital! Gotta admit, I wish I could have had an ultrasound like they seem to do for everybody nowadays. That would have been fun.

Sounds like the nasty germies are finally beginning to move on out!! Thank goodness!!

Elaine??!!! The AC back on yet?? Or are you still brushing your teeth using the Braille method?? What a pain!!

I think Nancy still has company in the house--some are staying in her computer room and she can't get online much! I'm sure she'll be back just as soon as she can.

Kristy, I'm so sorry about the surgery. Lots of prayers and PD headed out just for you. And don't worry, come Aug. 1st, you can just close your eyes and imagine all of us Ya Ya sisters and bothers holding you close, lending you our support, carrying you on the tide of our love. You and Derek will NOT be alone in this. And you must be sure he posts right away and lets us know how you are doing afterward!! What's the news on your DGF and FIL? Still keeping them in my prayers, too.

And Tara's DGM, too. So confusing to be told the tumor is gone and then somebody else says no, it's just shrunk. ACK!!!! Just get soooooooo frustrated when ya get conflicting reports like that! Prayers continue, for sure.

Deena, any news on your dh's DGM? Keeping that prayer line open, too. Glad you're feeling some better, but sorry the cupboard is bare! I know what you mean about the rain!!! AARRRGGGHHHHH!!!!!! To top it off, we've had tornado warnings the last 2 days, and one touched down not 10 miles from the house today!! Glad I was at work!!

We should start calling this the yaya medical ward!! lol!!

good luck Kristy, my mom had the same thing and she said it wasn't too bad. The whole epidural and needle thing didn't bother me in the least. The minute i found out I was preggers I asked to be hooked up to the iv!!:jester: When they decided to do an emergency c-section, I didn't really have time to think about it. But what was funny is that the nurse holding me while they did it was talking to me and when they stuck the needle in (didn't really hurt that much) but i started to yell sh@#. But I stopped and the nurse said, "It's okay honey you can yell in here." I told her I didn't want to be one of these women yelling and cussing during labor. She promised me I would be fine. I got a full spinal and never had any problems with it. In fact, given the choice I may choose c-section the next time instead of the old fasioned way!!

Hope everyone gets better and thanks for the well wishes. Dr. irritate me more and more everyday!!

Goodnight all!
tara

Elaine that is so awesome you finally have power. I would be so mad if I were you. We might lose power every now and then and sometimes it may be for a couple of hours but the only time we lost it for days was during a hurricane here.
