Welcome Home booking?

So, I bought direct in December, and haven’t used my points to stay yet. I did book a couple reservations for this summer and fall via the DVC website. However, I keep reading about “Welcome Home” bookings for people buying direct. Is this something I should be calling MS about? Do you get something extra beyond just your usual villa that you have booked?

If you already made reservations you won’t be eligible for it any longer.

The purpose of it is to help a brand new buyer with understanding the booking process and be able to stay on their points when buying less than 11 months out from the trip. DVC will sometimes help use their own inventory if nothing is available for your first trip.

MS can book that hard to get resort. No guarantee about availability, but easier through them

The Welcome Home program will often "find" availability from DVC's inventory. Unless the rules have changed the criteria is the reservation must be 6 months or less away and you cannot have already done a booking in your membership. Once you've done that the offer is void.

Additionally, the Welcome Home program can't find rooms where none exist - they won't bounce someone else from a booked room so you can have your Welcome Home stay. So if you are really hoping for that BCV studio for your first stay over Food and Wine - it isn't likely. Usually, the Welcome Home program can grab you unsold inventory at the currently selling resort or inventory that has been turned over to CRO.

I already have a resale contract and am looking at adding on direct. We did not get a welcome home booking on our resale contract. My guide says that they will not help with a Welcome Home trip on a new direct purchase. This may swing my wife back against adding on as we are hoping to travel in a couple months on the new points.

Anyone had any luck with Welcome Home in this scenario? It will be a new use year too.

Sorry, the Welcome Home reservation is specifically for brand new direct buyers. The intention is to help them make their very first booking, usually within the first 6-7 months of ownership. If the new member makes their first reservation on their own, they don't get the Welcome Home assistance, and neither do those who already are members via resale.

My guide was very clear that I must call MS to make my first welcome home booking, before I do any bookings (or even waitlists) on my own. If you've already booked on your own, it's likely too late to do a first welcome home - even if you haven't checked in to your first stay yet.

Even we added my adult kids, I couldn’t get one of them a welcome home booking, even as new owners, because my membership already existed.

Thanks for the confirmations. We just added on our first direct and we’re going to travel in June. I was able to find a 1br at another resort for the week we wanted and just grabbed that.
