We have 2 houses on our block for sale and one that just sold. I seem to always mean to introduce myself to new neighbors and never get around to it. I also hate to go empty handed. I'm not much of a cook so the usual cookies/brownies don't really work for me. I can always buy some at the store but wanted to see if anyone had a better suggestion. TIA!

When we moved in, the family across the street brought us a tub of cookies from the market, a small cooler with milk, water and juice, and a folder with copies of the local take out menus!

What a great suggestion! Milk, bread, and menus, etc. :)

A rosemary plant might also be nice. It smells yummy, grows easily, and can be used in the kitchen.

dont do anything, they might want to come over to your house

My husband mowed our neighbors' yard while they were painting the inside. They still talk about that 9 years later. I also brought them some hot dogs and milkshakes.

I've also made up an Italian food basket. I put in a jar of homemade spaghetti sauce, package of noodles, loaf of italian bread and a package of salad with dressing.

We brought a neighbors a hot pizza when they were moving in:D

A new photo album, maybe with a house theme.
A gift certificate to a local fun park or movie theatres.

I think what I appreciated most and often do for new neighbors is tell them that this Sat or Sun you would like to come over and help with housework. Like hanging pictures together, yard work, painting or just take the kids/pets off their hands for the day.

I would bring them a box of asst. pasteries, then they can have it as a snack or for breakfast with their morning coffee.

Honestly, if I was new to an area, having a bunch of menus from restaurants or even a map showing where the stores, schools and post office are would be helpful.

Hard to tell if they are new to the area, the homes are a little larger so this is an area that gets families upsizing. That's why we are here, only moved a few miles.

I do have a favorite Donut shop that I could introduce them too just in case though.

Wow! People really do this? I've never encountered it myself. :) You people must be nice neighbors! I could go for the menus myself. What a great idea that is!

When I moved to FL I was contacted by Welcome Wagon. Wow! That was very helpful! Not a peep here in VA. LOL!

When we moved into our first home, my neighbor brought us warm cookies, and I will NEVER forget it. That was 13yrs ago and she is the godmother to my son! When it comes to making cookies, you can buy those "break off and bake" ones from Toll House. They taste WONDERFUL!

As someone else mentioned...when we moved into our current home 6yrs ago, our neighbor cut our grass for us! We bought a house on over an acre of land and had not bought a riding lawnmower yet. He probably did it because he was embarrassed to have us as neighbors!!LOL But it was SOOO wonderful and helpful!!:sunny:

When friends of our bought their first home I made up a basket with a loaf of french bread, a box of salt, a nice candle and a bottle of wine and included this poem which I printed up on the computer and framed for their kitchen. They flipped over it and the poem is still in their kitchen.

"A Traditional Housewarming: Bread – So you never go hungry. Wine – So your life is always sweet. Salt – So there is always spice in your life. And a Candle – So you always have light." :flower3:

I always bring new neighbors a small plant or a Yankee Candle.

I think anything to eat is appreciated when you are moving in. My neighbs all brought over cookies, and we devoured them. I usually bring over Krispy Kremes or doughnuts in the morning. I love my neighbors, they are all wonderful. Two of them just watched my labby for me this weekend.
