Hi

Sorry to sound a bit dim but what are welcome bags?

Its not something I have ever had from the weddings I have been to in the uk.

What bags do you use and what goes into them?

Thanx Anna

Welcome bags are just a bunch of gifts and hospitality type items that you put together in a nice box, a bag, or whatever other type of creative idea you come up with. Basically it's a fun / nice way to say thank you to your guests for coming, give them important information that they may need for the day/week, and a few items to get their trip started. They are certainly not mandatory, just a fun thing to do for your guests.

Here's a link to a great thread with a HUGE list of ideas:

Hi Anna,

We did welcome bags and they went down a huge hit!! We got plain canvas bags and put our names and a castle logo on them.

Inside we put a variety off stuff like disney dollars, disney mints, playing cards, post card etc!

Hiya

Well I have decided to make the bags for people as a little suprise,

I have just ordered some personalised votives from yankee candle which I am dead impressed with.

I just dont know where to get bags

you can get plain canvas bags from ebay and iron a transfer on. I'm not sure if i'm going to do bags yet or some sort of folder thing

Are welcome bags typically only used on destination weddings? I'm having my wedding in our home town and will be giving favors to each guest.....but do most people do welcome bags for all weddings? I've never seen them before so i'm just wondering......thanks!:goodvibes

I ironed on myself to a canvas bag. You can expand that to have embroidered bags, or anything in between. Just depends what your price range is.

I personally felt that if you are going to spend money on a canvas bag, it might as well be something that they can use in the future (ie without putting my name on it) So I watched DisneyShopping and fell in love with these bags. They are on clearance and probably the same price as a normal canvas bag.

Mickey Bag
Eeyore Bag
Tinkerbell Bag
Chesire Cat Bag

As for who gets them..It kinda depends on how big your wedding is. If you are having a small wedding, I would suggest one per family. I am having a medium size and we decided it would be too much money for each family to get a bag since we are expecting about 80-90 guests, so we made bags for those traveling out of their home state to attend the wedding. Which brings my number to about 10 bags.

I think I seen those on your TR??? I fell inlove with them. I would love the order them, especially for 7.99....but 7.99 for 50-70 guests..oooooh boy. . . . im still thinking about it. I agree that they should be something that they can use.

Thanks for the tip!

I ordered some from a shop online for about £1.20 each. I just created a logo and got some iron on paper from Hobby Craft.

I got cheap little mickey mouse folders from WHSmiths, and put in there all the info about the wedding, welcome party, guys night out, golf, girls night out etc.

I belive traditionally welcome bags were a gesture for out of town guests to say thank you for traveling. So people getting married in their home town may only make a couple for friends staying at hotels. Sometimes something as simple as a fruit basket with a welcome note. Now it seems welcome baskets have become more elaborate. People really are finding ways now to show their guests how special they mean to them.

Usually for a destination wedding welcome baskets are more common since mostly everyone is from out of town. Not only is it a nice thank you for your guests and to show you are thinking of them sometimes they can serve as a great tool if they have never been here before.

Including maps, local attraction info, directions are very helpful. Most people include items that are representative of the area too such as a food the area is known for or small souveniers that they could remember the occasion.

One time at a wedding down in the islands I received a basket with rum, local candies and coffee, and beach type items like sunscreen and a disposable camera.

I just love how they are so many disney items you can get now to really theme the baskets, and people on the board have such great ideas!
