Weirdest flight connections

I got a GREAT deal on airfare for my trip, but there was a catch.

I have to fly EAST to NYC before flying WEST to Las Vegas. And on the way back I'm flying from Long Beach, CA to NYC and then back to Buffalo.

Like a boomerang.

What's the dopiest flight connection you've ever encountered?

When I flew to Houston, I connected in Detroit. (From Dulles.) Why go north when Houston is south!?

Oh, and we fly next week, from Philly to Dulles, Dulles to Denver, Denever to Spokane. Seriously, there were no flights from Philly to Denver? Or anywhere else that we had to fly to Dulles first?? Ah well! We may be asking at the airport (on the flight there) if we can just drive to Dulles and meet the plane there.

I don't understand why SWA makes me fly to St. Louis to get to Orlando or Houston. Only adds an hour to my travel time but it is aggravating.

I've had a lot of those in my life... fly to Philly to head out to Kansas. Up to Detroit to go to Orlando. I've flown to Pitts to get out West as well. I figure that the airlines are picking the closest/best hub location possible. It was annoying though when a flight was late and I looked out my window to see the city lights of Columbus beneath me just about the time I was hoping to be home. I try for direct as much as possible

Where do I start?

Let's see - fly 300+ miles west from Little Rock to Dallas to catch a plane to Orlando

Fly east to Memphis (only 140 miles) to connect to San Francisco

Fly 300+ miles west to Dallas to connect to New Orleans (which is 440 miles southeast of LR)

But as of 12/1 we will now have ONE non-stop a day from LIT to MCO.

Flying JetBlue. You really can't beat their fares and they get high marks from people that have flown with them.

If the flights are on-time, it shouldn't cause too much of a delay - but it's the real world, and I'm expecting it anyway.

My parents live in NE Montana, very rural. Only one airline with 2 flights daily (5 or 10 passengers) to Billings.

When I've flown them to DFW from Billings they've either gone to Minneapolis / St Paul or Seattle and one time Denver (not bad at all). One of the dangers of being more than 1000 miles from any airport hubs.

Note to self:

When moving to retire, be sure to reside in a major airport hub city.

we live only 45 mins from Cleveland, but if I want to go to Dallas I can either take a plane from Akron then change planes in Cleveland. Funny thing is... it's cheaper to fly from Akron then it is from Cleveland, going on the same plane in Cleveland.

yeah... that makes much sense.

I have had to fly from Des Moines, IA to Chicago, Ill then to Las Angelas, Ca.

Louisville, Ky north to Pittsburgh, Pa (344 miles), then back south to Orlando (828mi).


Go figure.

I live in Pittsburgh, and when I went to visit California in high school it was significantly cheaper to fly Cleveland to Pittsburgh and connect to LAX than to just fly from Pittsburgh to LAX on the SAME FLIGHT!

To get to Orlando at the end of the month, I'm on a direct flight from Honolulu to Chicago, then from Chicago to Orlando. (It doesn't really bother me though...flight time isn't much different than if I flew through LAX.)

BUT, one of my friends had a real kicker....his sister-in-law works for an airline, so she'd get them good deals on flights, but sometimes they'd have to go through cities that were farther away because there was more availability. So, he flew from Honolulu to New Jersey to get to Portland, Oregon!
