I know there are a few VB "freaks" such as myself on the board so maybe someone can help me out... A lot of the bags have "removable baseboard" ... why would someone want to remove the baseboard? Any reason other than to wash it? :confused3 I would think if you used it w/out the baseboard it would be all droopy and maybe even put more weight/pull on the straps.

Anyway, just an odd random question for those who love VB bags to ponder on this cold and rainy (at least here in NH!) morning!!

:surfweb:

I always assumed it was for washing them? Take it out to wash? Or if you want a more slouchy bag I guess?
(yes it's raining here too)

You take out the baseboard if you want to wash the bag or dry clean it. otherwise, it would be kind of floppy. but that's why they make it removeable... :thumbsup2 I made the mistake of washing mine right side out....that was a bad mistake. if you're going to wash it, turn it inside out. it'll fade alot less. ( and wash in cold water)

thanks! i knew about removing it for washing, but they state it in the 'features' so i just thought maybe there was another reason LOL!

I made that mistake too, I still do cuz sometimes I forget LOL

i only take the baseboards out of DD's VB purses to wash them. just a note: i bought DD a VB bag with magnetic closure pockets on the front last fall. well, after about a month, one of the magnetic closures came off a pocket, and VB would NOT make it right in any way, i had to take it to a local shoe store and have it patched back on the pocket. now the other pocket is doing the same thing! no more outside pockets for us!

Maybe people want to hide cash & valuables under there! LOL!!! :lmao:

Just kidding, I remove mine to wash. I also removed one from one of the larger totes (Vera or Miller, can't remember) for a plane ride - I knew I had to squish it under the seat in front of me & figured it would be easier without the cardboard base inside.

I can think of one other reason.

Removing it makes the bottom of the bag more pliable so it will squish better when packing it, trying to fit it into tight spaces, etc. I've done it with a couple of my bags.

I washed mine in the dishwasher:banana: Someone suggested it and I did it. It came out great!!

Just a tip - there are a couple of laundry detergent brands that sell a detergent for dark colors (cheer and woolite that I know of) these work well with vera bradley stuff and I haven't had mine fade with it!

Also when you wash it or anything else you wash for the 1st time. Add vinegar to the wash... it will help keep its color and not fade.

Thank you for the great tips. I know this is an old thread but I recently got my first Vera Bradley bag. Subing to this for future use.
