Weird Tasting Water

I heard the water tastes weird at Disney World. I was hoping we could refill our water bottles from the fountains but if the water tastes weird, now what?

Why does it taste weird? What is weird about it?

Is it safe to drink? Or is it like the water in mexico (best to avoid)?

Do the Brita filter things work to get rid of the taste?

Thanks

I never thought it tasted weird but I guess it is all in your opinion. I guess I would suggest trying it to see what you think then if you don't like it, just outside of DTD is a grocery store where you could buy some for cheaper than on property.
Minnesota
PS I have never gotten sick off of disney water any any of my trips there including one during a hurricane and I refill at fountains all the time. One other option is to ask for glasses of water from counter service places (it's free and generally colder) and refill from there.

It is more the smell then the taste. If you hold your nose, it's not that bad! :rotfl:

I usually do bottled water, but would love to try one of those filter bottles! I understand Brita discontinued their bottles. The filters are hard to find.

There is a thread on the budget board about Pure2go water bottles. Check it out! Culligan also makes them.

Yeah the water tastes kind of weird. Its still drinkable just kind of funky tasting. Filters work for tap water pretty well and if you have those flavor shot pouch thingys that you add to water you dont taste the funny water at all.

.... you all drink water at WDW??? ... I only drink stuff that comes in a pineapple with an umbrella .... :teeth:

I think we mostly drank bottled water and soda but I'm sure I drank at water fountains and don't remember anything bad smelling or tasting. (but then again, maybe I forgot about it after the drink in the pineapple?)

We always buy bottled water at WDW. (We buy the big jugs at the supermarket, too.) I would compare the tap water to pool water - it has a chlorinated taste. However, it is much more tolerable when it's very cold. If you have discriminating taste with water - I'd go with the bottled stuff. Never tried the Brita method there - I guess it couldn't hurt. Now I'm curious on what other people may think of the H20. Have a great day!:)

Gee, I drink the water in WDW all the time and I don't think it tastes wierd. But then, I live on the Mexican border and go over and drink water in Mexico all the time. Guess it's numbed my taste buds to the WDW water. Ya mean, it tastes bad?

Everyone is used to the water in their home town. We think our water at home is great tasting. But when we head to florida it just has a different taste. A taste we don't enjoy. Even making a pot of coffee in our room turns out to taste nasty if we don't use bottle water.
I do think that the resturants must use filtered water since it always tastes good.
We do bring a filter that fits onto a water bottle and refill from the fountians in the parks or when we get a meal we get bottle water or refill our bottle if we are eating a TS meal.
Untill you taste the water for yourself you won't know if it is drinkable for you.
I do think the majority of visitors think the water is undrinkable...LOL

If you go to the "Have you ever had a shock" thread you would know why the water tastes funny.... :rotfl2: Its from all the people rinsing poopy bottom children in the drinking fountains. After you read some of the things people do in the drinking fountains you will only buy bottled water

Yikes! I think we'll plan on bottled water :)

thanks for the heads up

We noticed the water had a distinct sulphur smell and taste when we were there. Sulphates in drinking water can have a, how shall i put it, "laxitive effect" if you're not used to it but no real long term hazardous effects, especially if you're only drinking it on vacation. If you have an iron stomach like we do, pour some juice crystals into the fountain water to cover the taste.

Here in North Georgia, we have tap water that is so bad, it leaves black marks in the sinks and showers. We only use bottled water here. But at Disney World, we use a water bottle and fill up at the fountains at the parks. It's not THAT bad.

The water at WDW does smell (and taste) funny to those of us who are bottled water fanatics. (including me!) ;)

But, it was noted in another thread here that if you go to any counter service restaurant they will give you cups of water (which is the filtered water from the soda machines).

You could then pour the filtered water into your bottles.

My sister insist that the water in Orlando makes her sick. She's been in Orlando three times (once in WDW) and says that the water makes her ill.

Neither my mom, my other sis or I have felt any ill effects from drinking the water. Strange, huh? :confused3

BTW, we live in South FL, so how diferent the can the water be from our home to Orlando?

I used to not like Florida water, but now it's grown on me. I actually miss it and it makes me think of Disney World :)

Same here! The first time we went it was so nasty, especially when you take a shower... But this last time I went, it was a .... comforting scent... :rotfl2:

More and more comments have made me very anxious to smell/taste this water. When I first heard that it tasted 'funny', I had no idea. Now I am intrigued by it all.
