My poor dh had a rough day at work today. He works in a fairly small emergency room and within a few minutes he had three fatal heart attack victims come in. He said he hears over and over how the patient felt like they just had a case of indigestion and so they won't come to the ER until they collapse and the family has to call an ambulance. Dh said it's odd how often he's heard family members report that the patient said "I'd feel better if only I could belch" right before they collapse. He said two of the patients brought in today said that very thing to family members. I guess if I ever have someone say that to me I'm going to drag them to ER right then.

Nobody wants to go to the emergency room for 'indigestion' so until a way is found to better predict heart attacks or correctly & minutely define symptoms indicating an impending heart attack, these deaths will continue to occur. :sad1:
I think your posting is super because it will alert many to the fact that far from everyone gets the 'pain down the arm' 'twisting' in the chest symptoms. I'll bet you save a life, or lives, with just this message.
:grouphug: to your DH for his important work at the hospital & to you for getting the news out. His concern for others shows what a fine person he must be.

I enjoy good health now, but a few years back, I had a near fatal heart problem & the symptom was simply getting very tired &, occassionally, a little dizzy. well, I thought, I am middle-aged, overweight & it's 100 degrees outside, of course I'm exhausted. At a routine Dr's appointment, I found out otherwise. The Doctor was surprised (the look on her face was alarming! ;)) , I was shocked & the Guy upstairs was really looking out for me! 2 days later I read in the paper where our city councilman (in Tx) collapsed with the same symptoms, his reason for delay were identical to mine.

thanks for the heads up!

A few months ago, my 39-year old, female, next-door neighbor had a heart attack. She is outwardly healthy, not overweight and eats fairly well.

She did not have the typical symptoms either. No pain or anything. She had a few "spells" of feeling "weird" she said, and her heart would flutter. Then she just collapsed one day. The one thing she remembers is just feeling light she had a weight on the middle of her chest. No pain, no nausea, nothing else.

Also, they could not find anything wrong with her. They told her it was due to stress.

Sorry about your DH's day :(

I had heard that one before. That some people who have heartburn can really be dealing with a heart issue. Happened to a friend of ours. He was complaining about how he had it for about 3-4 days. Next thing we knew he was in the hospital for a stroke. Fortunately he listened to a couple of us as we urged him to go in. He did and it could've been a lot worse if he hadn't gone in to get checked out!

At the time my uncle had his heart attack, he said he felt like he needed to go to the bathroom... luckily this was at a major sporting event cuz when he collapsed security and EMTs were right there. If he had done this at home he may have died. Drs said they find a lot of heart attack victims in the bathroom.

This happened to my brother who was 40 yrs old , He went to the dr ,they prescibed him nexium and and three days later, he was coming out of the bathroom and had a heart attack and he passed away. So people do need to beware. please get it checked out.

My grandmother died of "indigestion". at 72. She had been complaining of indigestion for years. One day she fainted and broke both arms, which put her in the hospital where she underwent an EKG. The EKG revealed a previous "silent" heart attack. Unfortunately a few days later she had The Big One and nothing could save her.
