Hello all!! I am quite new to this so forgive me if I do something wrong.

My husband and I will be going to Disney World in Feb. It will be out second trip together. The first being about 7 years ago!!!

Here is my question. My husband is a big guy. He is very tall and has a big build. Are there any rides we should stay away from? We plan on visiting all of the parks and I would really like to save him some discomfort if he wont "fit". For the life of me I cannot remember if we had any problems last time. Are most of the rides size friendly? Can anyone answer this? I dont seem to remember being strapped into anything, and I want to say that I think most of the rides were fine, but like I said, I dont want to know too late!!

Thanks for any help or advice you can give me. I know this is a weird question!!!

Jen

I am also a big person. If you go www.wdwig.com, and type in "large" at the search function you will find an amazing page detailing all of the WDW rides and any challanges large people may follow. She has everything from the tight fit of the MK turnstiles, to what part of the ride to try and get. Last time I was afraid to on any ride that involved seat belts or over the head restraining bars. Not anymore, Tower of Terror here I come.

Good Luck

Welcome!! I think you'll find a lot of helpful information here.

One ride that may be difficult is the RocknRoller coaster at MGM. It has over the shoulder harnesses and I'd imagine that could pose a problem.

I have never travelled to WDW with a person of a large size that would have difficulting with the size of rides, so I'm sure you'll get much better feedback from other members of the DIS

One of my uncle's is a very large man as well. He's very tall and also big all around and he did fine in WDW. RnRC wasn't open at the time he was there but he fit on everyhing else. Some may have been a tight squeeze, but he never complained so I guess t was fine overall.

My husband, 6'3", big guy, big build, can ride everything without a problem. Disney is one of the best parks for riding if you're on the large size. I'm also big-size 28 and 5'9" and can ride without any major problems at Disney, something I can't say for other theme parks.

I have been to WDW a few times since birth. I am a larger woman (picture average plus size model) in my early 30's. My personal experiences have been pretty good in all the parks including Universal Studios. However, there are a few rides which my be uncomfortable depending upon his size. I don't think that he will have any trouble with most rides in MK as they have the bar which comes down into the lap to keep you in place (ie. Fantasyland, PoC, Splash Mtn, Big Thunder Mountain RR, HM). When I ride Space Mountain, I fit right in the seat but always feel as though my knees are up to my chest and I am only 5'6". As for Epcot, he should be okay in all rides with the one exception being that of Test Track because it uses a car seat strap. I believe that they have the extensions and will apply them if needed (talk to CM as you approach the que). As for MGM, plenty of shows with a few rides, he may only have problems with RnRC and maybe ToT. As for AK, there are only a few rides which may be of little concern, Big Kali River Rapids should be okay (two seats together which uses one strap to hold two people in, or one person could sit by themselves- like a car seat strap). For some reason I am thinking that I felt cramped in on Dinosaur. I recall siting in second row (I think the seat is one long seat in which 4 people can fit but I think that my knees were up against the seat in front of me and Primeval Whirl is probably okay. His biggest problem will probably be his leg room and that may be only a few select rides (usually you get a little more leg room if you sit in the first seat). I have more problems getting through the old turnstiles than I have every had riding on one of the rides (MK has very small turnstiles and everytime I go through them, my pocket catches or purse strap or something I am caring gets caught on its end). The Disney CMs are really good about answering questions and helping out.

P.S. - Should you decide to spend anytime at US Islands of Adventure, their roller coasters have a seat to try out before you enter the line. While I was there I noticed that people who about the same height and weight as me had no problem, but guys who were taller and had longer torso's looked really crammed in when the overhead shoulder bar was lowered.

Hopefully some of this will help. Besides, if you don't remember having too many problems since your last visit, you probably won't have any this time either. Have a great time.

:jester: The most uncomfortable seat I've encountered while on my trips to WDW was the airline seat !!!:D

I just wanted to add that from a height standpoint, my 6'3" dh *hated* Astro Orbiter. He had nowhere to put his legs and swore never to ride again. I hate the ride period. Way long line for a way short ride. Poor ds has to ride alone if he wants to do it. ;)

first off, welcome to wdwinfo...great group of people here that can help with almost any question....
but regarding your question...i'm a fairly large guy myself weighing in at about 300lbs and standing at 6'3"...i have not had a problem to speak of on any of the disney attractions...the only place that i had any "issue" was kali river rapids...i couldn't sit with another adult and had to swap out my wife for my child due to the restraint there...rock n rollercoaster, tower of terror, space mountain, you name it, i am able to ride it without problem...as stated above, the worse ride has been the airline seats on the way to the world...i must say that disney has been very accomidating to the "larger" public...
go and have a great time!!!! we will in june!!!!!

my ex football player type dh hated the back seat on test track.....and unfortunately he will never go on it again....the ride broke down while he was on it for a very long time....at least 15 minutes. plus the seat belt had him so tightly in there he couldnt move at all.........poor guy. i still think the front seat would be ok for my dh........but there is no way i will ever get him on that ride again.

another one he felt uncomfortable on was rnr coaster.

I second Astro Orbiter. I'm wee and I still have problems with it. Seriously uncomfortable! Definately don't have two in it at a time! We learned the hard way. :teeth:

Thank you all so much for you help!!! I know this is such a touchy subject for some and I feel so bad for him. It almost ruins it for him if he worries so much about leg room etc.

I have checked out the wdeig site and my sister found an excellent one at :

http://www.grandstyle.com/theme.htm

Thanks again for your help all!!! Hopefully this will make our vacation so much more fun and relaxing!!!

And please feel free to keep the opinions coming. I can never learn too much and love to see differing opinions as well!!

I have read here on the "DIS", that the seats for Cirque Du Soleil, are on the small side for even average people. As recommended, when I made our reservation, I asked for an isle seat with a "liftable" arm rest. ;)

Anyone know how the harness in Alien Encounter fits? Ive read a couple different opinions and none of them were entirely clear. TIA!!

When I was at WDW in Mar. 2001 they had the restants that lower over your head and Chest with hand holds on the front like the RnR restants.
