Weird price difference on car hire with Sixt!!

Had a quick look, my concern with the Kayak link would be no description of the car. It just says Generic Full-size van or similar
Can't see anything about the amount of seats. It does say 12 seater on the Kayak page but don't see anything on the booking page unless I missed it.

Hi Wayne,I emailed Sixt and asked them what a generic van was ans they said it was a standard 12 seater van but no guarantee of a make. Does the insurance provided look ok??

Yes it looks all inclusive, just standard cover we get with all rentals.

If i book it now and get a confirmation would they have to honour it at pick up??

Once they have taken your money and issued a rental voucher they will honour it.
I got a great misprice a few years back, 4 weeks rental for price of 1, I think I paid about £160 for a 7 seater SUV for almost 4 weeks.

Well I booked my 12 Seater, taking a screen print before I did it. ;)I paid my deposit and got my confirmation. When the voucher came through, it said on it
" 7 seater suv Toyota or similar." I phoned Cartrawler and got a gentleman who checked it out and said there is an error on the site and the price on Kayak is wrong. I got him to look at the booking page on Kayak and he agreed the price was showing what I had paid. After much debate and the lack of a manager to speak with, he asked me to phone in the morning. I said I would be phoning but if I don't get a satisfactory result, I will be persuing this, as it is false advertising and I will contact Trading Standards. :thumbsup2.
I will post an update tomorrow. I don't go down without a fight. Hopefully the luck of the Irish will work. :jumping1:

As I suspected in my first post, the price was for the 7 seater.

Legally you don't have a leg to stand on, its all down to Cartrawler, if they appreciate your business and keeping you as a customer they will honour it. If not they will cancel it.

All websites should cover this in their T&C's, Kayak http://www.kayak.co.uk/help/noguarantee

From Cartrawler's T&C's:

nice !!!!!!!!

Well, after 12 emails, sending screen shots and links,8 telephone conversations and 1 week of stress, I finally have a result. Cartrawler acknowledged that there was a mismatch on the Kayak site and that I had in fact booked a 12 seater van and not a 7 seater SUV, which was stated on the rental voucher. They agreed to cancel the original booking with Sixt, as they could not guarantee me availability (apparently)! I now have a new booking through Budget of a 12 seater Ford Econoline e350, or similar, for a final price of £428.58 for 2 weeks next June.:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

Great news. Glad you got it sorted.

Budget are my least favourite rental company, they used to offer free upgrade subject to availability then on arrival give smaller cars, twice I have had to fight for upgrade. Other rental was from Port Canaveral, supposed to get a 7 seater SUV, had to accept a minivan which had not been cleaned and warning light lit on dash.

Just make sure you get what you want and check it over before you leave.

Oh I will take pictures and check every inch of it and I will be checking all the paperwork before Hubby signs. He is the main driver. I am not bothered about the upgrade, as we have a 12 seater and only 8 of us. I have a few questions you might be able to help me with -

Do they let you pick a vehicle, or are you allocated one?
My BIL will be second driver. Do you have any idea Wayne how much Budget charge for this?
Also we were going to pay for fuel up front but do they charge more than petrol stations. We will definitely use a full tank, as we are driving to Miami and staying overnight, as well as driving to Busch Gardens.

Just did a dummy booking on Budget and it says $9/day for additional driver.

Fuel says it can be prepaid at market value. My experience is prepaying is the most expensive way, you pay for a tank to manufacturers spec, a quick read suggests a 33 gallon tank = around $110.
2 problems, you pay for the full 33 gallons yet if you filled up from the empty line it should be a around $100, you can never use those last couple of gallons in the system. Other problem is the amount you leave in when returning, you have paid for that.
Best way is take back full and pay only for the amount you use at regular pump price.
You are right though, a trip to Miami and to Tampa you will require more than one tank, these only do about 15 to the gallon.

Its a few years since we used them so might have changed but they allocated cars but this could have changed.

Thanks Wayne, that's brilliant. I will do as you say and leave back full! I suppose if they allocate something I can argue if it's a piece of scrap - hubby won't, he is too quiet. There's nothing I hate more than someone trying to take people on ;)
