Has anyone else received strange phone calls about a violation of the DVC contract and a meeting being held to discuss??

No, I haven't. But so many unidentified callers just want $$, I don't answer unless I know the caller. My phone even announces some as "Scam" or "ROBO", LOL. Legitimate callers (aka people I want to talk to) leave a message. Scammers and beggars do not.

My initial thought is some type of scam. YMMV.

Me neither.

Sounds like some helpful newbie scammer has informed the scam-boss that DVC Members are a hitherto untouched market.

If this were legit, you'd be receiving an email or snailmail addressed with legal names(s).

There have been reports of similar calls over the years. They SEEM to be framed around investigating a potential class action lawsuit against DVC. The exact reason has never been clear to me. Here's a link to one past discussion:

As one commenter pointed out in that thread, these calls could simply be a new tactic from the "get out of your timeshare" scammers.

It could be a law firm fishing for some opportunity to sue Disney, but Google searches don't turn up anything of note. It doesn't appear there is a coordinated effort to go after Disney/DVC for some specific infraction. It could be a total scam. I'd recommend caution.

This is my gut feeling as well. In order to sell you their "get out of your horrible timeshare" services, they first need to create a need. "Did you know that DVC may potentially be facing a class-action lawsuit, and what will the value of your member ship be THEN?" creates that need quite nicely. No actual lawyers or lawsuit required.

DH got one a few weeks ago. We were invited to a meeting at a hotel conference room site. From what he could understand from the caller, I think the main complaints were 1) we were told when we bought that we could get a room any time, but there isn't actually availability any time, and 2) it's illegal for there to be availability for people paying cash when there isn't availability for me to use my points. We didn't go to the meeting.

Neither of which are true. A wasted trip avoided.

Exactly! DH just told me that it wasn't one meeting - there were several 1 hour time slots to choose from over a few days. They called twice even after he declined the first time!

I've gotten several calls like that. They are all about wanting to help me get out of a Time Share contract. I tell them I love my "time share" and they hang up.

I got this exact call earlier today. I told them no thanks, and that anyone saying those things and trying to sue did not fully understand the product they purchased. I am in the Pittsburgh area.

Never got such call, would not be interested to attend such meetings anyway. Seems waste of time to me.

I literally just received it. Some law firm claiming that they had 75 owners that were going to sue DVC for allowing the villas to be rented by the general public. She also said that they were going to to be charging owners a special assessment fee "very soon" for pandemic related losses and it would be up to $3000 per owner. She wanted me to come meet with them this weekend. I said no. I agree with the other commenters that this sounds like a "get out of your nasty timeshare" effort where I get charged a lot of money for something I don't actually want right now.

Wow! Talk about frivolous lawsuits (if they are really planning to do this). Obviously, they haven't read the documents and I can't think of any "pandemic-related costs" that would require a special assessment for Members. As I recall, we even got a partial refund of the annual dues because the resorts were closed for a period of time.

I get mailers to my publicly-available address for other companys' timeshare products sometimes. I would imagine they could match that information to DVC owners to target them.

was just posting about this and was looking for others that might have had the same experience. I don't know what that was related to but they new around the time I purchased. I wonder if there was some breach. I am going to change my password. Also MFA is on now so they have to verify your account now by your phone or email on file.

I just got this weird call TONIGHT. Claimed to be some attorney representing multiple owners that want to sue the Disney Vacation Resorts. Told him there was no such entity as the Disney Vacation Resorts and he said, um sorry, I mean the Disney Vacation Development. Ok, good enough, I guess.

He goes on to ask, did I know that Disney was renting out the timeshare units at a steep discount to the public? I quickly interrupt and say, oh absolutely, that's how we can use our points to go on Disney Cruises, Adventures by Disney, and timeshare exchanges, among other things (not that I ever did or would). Disney has to take those points and rent them out for me so that I can use those points for other things.

He then says, but is that written in your contract? I reply, yes it is. He says, it is? Yep.

Long pause.

He then reluctantly says, seems like you are happy with Disney and I said no complaints. I will take you off our calling list then. :rotfl2:

Thank you for getting that info. If those are the complaints, this is a nothing burger. I have never gotten one of these calls, though I have gotten some "Sell Your Timeshare" calls.
