Weird laundry ?

I have a strange laundry question. I have always turned my clothes right side out to launder, with the idea that the outside is the dirtiest. My sister says that clothes should be turned inside out to wash because it prevents clothes from fading. I have 2 boys that really get their clothes dirty so if I turn their clothes inside out will the outside really get clean? How do you wash your laundry? :confused3

I also turn mine inside out, and I use a laundry detergent specific to darks, so Im not sure which one it is that helps the fading....

For fleece I keep it right side out- the fleece part sheds too much otherwise.

For T-shirts, corduroys: I turn right side in. To keep the designs on the shirts from wearing out because of the abrasion in the washer, and to keep the corduroys from abrasion also.

Other shirts, pants, I keep right side out to concentrate on cleaning the outsides.

Anything else that can be abraided- such as knits, right side in.

The way that the clothes are put into the laundry bin is how they get laundered... and folded after they come out of the dryer. My DH used to wonder why all of his underwear and tshirts were inside out when he took them out of the drawer. They still are in them that way... he just understands now that I'm not his mother and I'm not going to "right" his laziness. BTW, if one sleeve is in and one is out... that's how they make it back to the drawers, too.

:scratchin That's a great idea to just fold um the way I find um! My 14 year old Ds likes to take his shirts off and throw them in the hamper (I know, I should at least be happy they make it to the hamper) inside out and I get tired of constantly having to turn them the right way when I take them out of the dryer to fold them. Knowing DS, if I leave them folded inside out, he will probably not realize it and put it on inside out and go to scholl that way! :rotfl2: Oh Well!!! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

I also put them in the washer however they come off our bodies....when I fold them I sometimes turn them the right way and sometimes not....doing the wash is not high on my list of ways I like to spend my time so I get it done as quick as I can so my daughter and I can go do fun things like ice skating, going to the movies etc...

I'm glad I'm not the only one who throws them in the way they ended up in the hamper! DH was driving me insane, because he would leave his pants with one leg out and one leg in.

Mine go in the way they are in the basket. They are clean and last a long time, so not need to do anything else. DH hangs more than I, so he turns everything right side out. BTW my clothes are always right side out when I take them of. DH who knows.

Another 'you get 'em back the way you put 'em in"..............especially socks. I'm not unraveling his stinky socks before they go in the wash! :teeth:

I also usually just dump everything into the washer without regard to whether it's inside out or not, but both dds have a few things that have glitter and rhinestones on them and they specifically say to wash them inside out. I also do try to check for stains, 'cause little girls can get stuff pretty dirty too :) DH is actually better at that that than I am. He checks each thing individually. Sometimes I just skip it and add Chlorox 2, hoping it will take care of whatever's there :teeth:

I do turn them right side out when I fold them, but only because I'm too anal to be able to leave them wrong side out ;) DH does his own, plus the sheets, towels, and some of the girls' stuff. He is scared to do mine, though - lol.

Laurie :)

Clothes usually go in the washer pretty much the same way they were taken off. However, if I am the one doing the wash, I will straighten socks and pant legs and shirt sleeves so that they are not bunched up. If they are bunched up, they won't get as clean, and when they go in the dryer, they won't dry.

I ALWAYS take all of my clothes off right side out. ALWAYS!! DW almost always takes her clothes off inside out. WHY???? :confused3 And the kids clothes are a mix of both right side out and inside out.

But when the clothes get folded, they get folded right side out. And they have to be folded the same way every time. I'm kinda weird about that.

Another vote for it gets washed the way it goes in! Sometimes, especially if it's only one leg (which is 90% of the time! ), I will flip the leg since I hang my laundry outside to dry (not socks and undies though...TOO many of them!!! ) and it's easier if it's "even". Does anyone else have kids who can manage to take off their undies, jeans and socks in one pass and find everything attached to each other in the hamper?? That drives me insane!!! :crazy2:

One funny note.......my mother is probably going nuts up in heaven watching me do laundry. She used to not only flip everything but she would sort all the socks AND match them before they even went into the washer!!!!!!!!!!!! :scared1:

I'm guilty of this. I fold my socks together before I throw them down the laundry chute. I figure, if they're washed together, they have a better chance of ending up as a pair after they're dried. That's a HUGE problem around here though, we have a laundry basket that's always full of unmatched socks.

I have found socks that our inside out are not as clean as those right side out. So I am not sure that inside out gets as clean.

I'm not sure if they still do or not, but I recall reading many laundry tags that read to turn them inside out to prevent fading. Especially jeans. Technically, this is probably the way to go, but to be honest, it seems more like a pain in the butt to me.

I agree that socks that are inside out never seem to get as clean. This is one area; among MANY others, that my 15 year old son can't seem to do. I ask and I ask to please take your socks off the right way, but it goes in one ear and out the other.

Yup, pants legs and socks as well. If they're too lazy to make them right, why should I have to?

I throw them in the washer, slam the door shut before anything can jump back out at me, and push the start button. That's how I do my laundry!! :woohoo:

I am extremely particular w/ laundry. Everything gets checked over to see if it needs to be it w/ Spray n' Wash. Washed w/ only like colored clothes, inside out, of course ;) and then most everything either perfectly laid out to dry or hung up to air dry.
I spend way too much on the M's clothes to not be particular.
Me ,on the other hand, have 2 lovely pairs of ragid jeans that I wear to work w/ the t-shirt of my choice in a daily basis. Good thing companies think computer people can't be trusted to dress-up. :rotfl:

There are only two types of clothes: clean clothes and dirty clothes. Dirty clothes go in the washer regardless of color or their purpose in life. Clean clothes go upstairs to get dirty again.

I am so tired of righting everything!!! I put most of it right side out to wash because it is then easier to fold. I seem to be the only one in the house that always makes sure it is the right way. DH most of the time but the kids... forget it. :teeth:
