WOW!! Pixie dust to you for not going off on these people for flaming you. If I had a problem with your question I would just roll me eyes and hit the back button on my browser. I would not take the time out of my life, that I would never get back, to harrass a stranger.

::yes::

I think that you guys that are attacking the OP need to back off...

Has anyone ever thought that the OP's DF may have anxiety issues or Aspergers/ ASD/OCD etc. I have anxiety and aspergers (i am female though) and have gone through long phases even as a grown adult where removing my hat in public would be enough to send me into a massive panic attack/meltdown. If you explain the situation to most restautrants they understand, as most would not want the scene of someone having a massive panic attack (often needing an ambulance).

I am not saying that this is what op's df has, but am just putting it out there as a possibility fro you to consider, especially those who were so critical

Hugs to the OP:grouphug:

My husband (bless his balding heart:lovestruc ) always wears a hat, but never to a restaurant (or movie, Church, event)... he wouldn't dream of that.

Having clarified that, yes it is sexist to allow one sex to wear a hat and another not to. A ban on hats should be across the board ~ men, women, and children!

First, I don't know this poster, nor have I followed her posts, but apparently this is a part-time hobby for you. You actually keep a list?! :confused3 Second, regardless of all of the above, she asked a question about a hat, not what your opinion of her fiance was; third, if she won't listen to her own parents, do you really think she's going to listen to strangers on a DISNEY board? Finally, if you were truly concerned for her well-being you would make sure that the DIS boards are a place for her to come when she's looking for comfort, not a butt kicking from strangers.

It is easy to recap when you remember stuff. No need to do a search. I would tell my sister (and I have and she left him and said he was no good) and nieces the same thing.

Sometimes one will listen to strangers before family. I just was commenting to others who said there are many red flags here. There were far more of them too but I am not going to search for them.

About the hat question - it is no sexist but extremely rude of her DF to refuse to remove his hat and thus prevent her and him from going to nicer places. Also how will he handle the wedding at WDW and wear that hat? They have been engaged for a year (and still may not have told the parents).

The crap her DF pulls my DH, when he was my DBF and then DF, would have never pulled. Not a single one. This is not now a kind DF treats his princess.

No I don't think it is sexist BUT if he is concerned about not wearing the hat, I say keep the hat on and don't worry about it for most restuarants with the exception of the really fancy ones (V&A for instance). I always see guys w/ hats on at Disney (even LeCellier, Chefs de France). I also see the Mickey Ears, Goofy Hats, etc on guys and girls. Really, if you're applying the manners rule then the only hats women should be wearing inside are dress hats and Mickey Ears certainly are that so I don't think it's a big deal for your guy. I'd rather see a guy with a hat on while I'm eating than the back of some girl's thong! LOL :)

I don't know about anyone else, but if I couldn't eat a a restaurant that I wanted to eat at because my finace refused to remove his hat???? I'd be finding a new finace. Aside from a medical issue or a religion issue, anything else sounds selfish and a little odd. Just my opinion. My husband likes baseball hats and so do my sons. They do not however wear them in restaurants.

Of all the things that could break up a relationship, you'd leave your fiance because he wouldn't remove his hat?

I'd leave a boyfriend because he didn't display common courtesy. It wouldn't get to fiancee point. But I've "been there done that" with my first marriage and became much pickier when I had to date the second go around, since in retrospect I think all those little things I should have dumped him for when we were dating were signs that the big things were going to be problems. Now I've been married 15 years to a guy who has good manners, mows the lawn, and is liked by my parents.

Everyone has different expectations in a spouse. Me - being able to follow the basic rules of etiquette, on the MUST list. YMMV.

HAs the OP actually said that because of his need to wear a hat that she is being denied going to a restaurant she wants to go to?

I think it's pretty clear that her fiance can wear a hat to ANY Disney restaurant (with the exception of V & A's) without a problem.

Again...the question was "is it sexist...". The whole I'm-just-trying-to-be-helpful/concerned/opint-out-red-flags-because-I-care-about-her is BUNK and you know it. I find certain poster's obsession with her to be very suspicious.

That being said, I asked my Dh what his take on men in hats and he said they should take 'em off. Go figure. We disagree!

It was really interesting for me to read this thread. I have to admit that I was really surprised at people's thoughts on the matter. It's never been a topic brought up around me.
Overall, I think life is was too short for so much concern on wearing a hat or not wearing a hat!!! :confused3
