Do any of you attend meetings for support and weigh ins only and skip the points system? I am losing weight through cutting calories in a balanced way and exercise. I feel that I need more support, but I do not want to change what I am doing. Any comments are greatly appreciated!

Congratulations on your weight loss and welcome to the DIS. I'm sure some other WW WISHers will be online Monday at work to help you.

You can do it.

God bless, best wishes, and encouragement, RaySharpton:)

I personally don't do that, but I don't see why you couldn't.

When you go to Weight Watchers, they'll charge you registration and a weekly fee, which basically pays for their materials. Or, you can go when they're having one of their free registration promotions.

The only problem you might encounter is a lot of the people share ideas for points things, rather than lo-cal things. It's tough to intermingle different weight loss plans, but as long as that wouldn't bother you, I say go for it! :)

Good luck to you!!!

I personally don't think it makes much sense to attend the Weight Watchers meetings if you're not following the Weight Watchers program... and points is the centerpiece of the program.

Since so much of the meeting is dedicated to helping each other follow the program (the WHOLE program), I would think that you might find much of the meeting not meaningful. This could lead to you being frustrated, and the other members being frustrated by you...

Why don't you want to do the points?

I can see what Kathy means.......paying for WW's (which is not cheap) seems kind of silly if your not doing WW's.

But, if this is the only way that you can see to get the support and the commitment of weekly weigh-ins then it might be worth it. Weight Watchers is after all cutting calories in a balanced way, and they certainly encourage exercise.

Maybe you could even check what you eat each day and compare it to how many points you should be eating. There is the small chance that you may not be getting enough calories and could add a few. Not eating enough can slow down or stop your metabolism. Somedays I eat all my points and wish I had more. Other days I end up being 9-11 under. Those are the day's I ate more salad or did not eat a lot of meat for my protien. The points are a great way to have something tangible that you can use to gauge what and how much your eating. It's easy for me to know if I can have that snack at the end of the day, or if I should eat something lighter.

Good luck in your choice, you can't loose by going (except for money maybe?)

Melanie

I agree that WW meetings may not be the most supportive for you if you are following a different plkan. Have you looked into something Like TOPS or Overeaters annonymous?? I know a lot of OA meetings are free and just a support meeting and you do your own plan. Make sure to check them out though. SOme are more low key and some are much more intense!! Good luck to you. You can always turn to WISh for support!!!

What I am doing (watching calories, eating well-balanced food throughout the day and EXERCISE) is working for me. So far I have lost 57, and have 50 more to go. I am looking for support, in terms of people who are also working on their weight. I guess I want to stick with what is working for me in terms of tracking calories. I know the points system, and I like more structure, and am eating based on a program my doctor and nutritionist have set up for me. I am just looking for a supportive community. TOPS and OA are good suggestions!

I just discovered this board over the weekend, so maybe this is what I need. I am also interested in what others are doing who are successful.

Thanks for the responses and the help!:)

Hi, MJS  When I read your post I was going to suggest TOPS, but I see that Holly has already suggested it. Here is a link: http://www.tops.org/ . Maybe they will have a chapter in your area.

In terms of support, you can't do better than right here on WISH!! There is always some one around to pick you up when you are down and set you back on the right path! And the best thing of all is it's free!!! I hope you decide to join us!! If you do, be sure to post to the challenge thread at the top of the page so you can be "official". And don't forget to pick up your WISH clippie!! It's very motivating to see the numbers on those clippie go up and up!
