Anyone have any tips on how to cruise thinking "points"?

I am off WW now but have done it before. I would just bring your small points book with you and use it. Most of the places have fruits, SF desserts, veg options, just eat what you would normally eat at home but it is a vacation so beat yourself up over eating a few extras. There are lots of activity options on board also which will give you more points.

Personally-I've always decided not to worry about perfectly following plan while cruising. I want to enjoy my trip nit worry about counting points.

My strategy:
1. Eat smart- fruit for breakfast, maybe eggs, light lunch, at dinner I order what I like but make sure to NOT eat every bite. I try to only get dessert at dinner and don't eat it all except palo souffle.
2. Walk a lot-walk in ports if you don't have excursions planned. And walk the walking track. You'll get beautiful views and plenty of exercise.
3. Hold the booze-this is where SOOOOOO many empty calories can come from. I may have a glass of wine with dinner but for the most part I save my calories for food, which also saves me money.

I just got back from a royal carribbean 5 night cruise earlier is month. I did pick up about 1.5 lbs, but I think a lot if it was water retention because within a week of getting back I was under my pre cruise weight.

My wife uses WW Points Plus and I watch my carbs closely and we both had very good success on 2 2-week cruises (WBTA and PC). She used a WW based App on her IPhone (where the data was a local - We didn't want to drive up an Internet bill. For our next trips, she got the new WW Points Plus calculator and a WW Points Plus book.

We found the real secret is not to give in to temptation. We ate the more sensible foods, remembered we can always order steamed veggies with dinner, and sharing a regular dessert was better for both of us than the Sugar free ones. Sugar free is neither carb free nor fat free. The regular desserts in moderation tased better and generally were better for us than the sugar free ones.

Yes, we each put on about 2 pounds on each trip, but like someone else said, it was gone in about a week, and we actualy were about a pound under where we started befoore we left home.

Good luck, and above all, have a great cruise.

I'm on WW, also. I don't worry about points when I'm on vacation. I figure I can "watch" what I eat to a certain extend and also walk deck 4 and take the steps. My opinion is that you don't go on vacation that often so it won't hurt you for a week.

I am also on WW. I went to WDW on a deluxe food plan and only gained a pound. I ate whatever I wanted but stopped when I was full (eat till you sigh.) Of course you do a lot more walking there but it's something to think about. I do the same on cruises...well with the exception of drinking:rolleyes1

I am on WW as well....when i go to WDW, i plan all the restaurants that i want to eat at and then look at the menus prior to the trip so i will know exactly what to eat/want to eat without really looking at the menu.

For the three week long trips that i have done in disney on WW, i have lost 4lbs each.

On the cruise, you can basically get whatever you want...if its on the menu or not (and by the way, i believe they always offer a salmon dish at dinner). I also tell the head waiter what i do not want at the beginning of the trip - ie. no rice, unless brown, steamed veggies, no butter, etc. dont be afraid to tell the head waiter of any dietary restrictions or likes/dislikes you have.

Also, make sure to drink lots of water.

Here's a funny (not necessarily related to WW) - on our first cruise, the family we were dining with had a 5 year old boy. on like the 1st or 2nd night, somehow it came up (in conversation with the waiter) that the boy's favorite food is eel (imagine that!). I think to everyone's surprise, literally, for every night of the 7 night cruise, eel showed up at the table for him - there was soo much eel - if one ordered it at a sushi restaurant, it would have cost probably about 50$ for each plate!

Believe me, disney will do whatever to please you.

My last cruise, I lost weight and did not count points. But I did eat a lot of fruit, and ran 5K on deck 4 three times, and ran 5K at CC. Before I went home, I ran another 5K at WDW. I find it easier to lose weight when someone else is cooking. I find I eat 3 good meals on the cruise. At home, I will skip breakfast, bypass lunch, and the shove into my mouth whatever is available when I get home from work, and then of course, I am too tired to exercise. I think if I could cruise for 6 months, I would be at goal.

I would recommend using the "Simply Filling" (old Core Plan) technique for the week rather than counting points.

I'm on WW. We just went to WDW in March and did the regular dining plan and it was fine- I ate desserts, fries (seldomly, but I still ate some!) and steak and I only gained a little. Yes, its frustrating to gain, but it was very easy for me to lose all of the weight I gained the week I came home.

We are cruising on the Dream in June and I just plan on keeping portions small (eat whatever you want, but moderation is key!), exercise, drink water and eat plenty of fruit. You will be FINE- remember, it's vacation, so relax and enjoy!
