Has anyone who is somewhat over weight ever had a difficult time riding any rides at any of the parks? We have someone in our group going in a few weeks who is somewhat over weight. She is not heavy by no means but is worried about riding some of the rides. She has been before to WDW world and had no problem. She is active but has trouble loosing weight. Anyone have any troubles so we can prepare her.

I had heard on the All Ears site that there was a guide for larger people...
check on there or I'm sure someone can post with the direct link. SHouldn't be much of a problem though....

Have fun!

Most every attraction at WDW can accommodate very large guests.

(S/he might want to stay away from the TEACUPS. ;) )

We call them "Pooh sized" on the DIS!!:thumbsup2

I'm a little less the Pooh sized right now - but have been there before - and never had a problem at WDW -- I did have a problem at Universal though.

I'm not somewhat overweight, I'm just plain ol' overweight. LOL And I have no trouble riding the teacups! So tell her to go for it!! The only issue I have with the Teacups is legroom. LOL

I'm not into roller coasters, but I hear that EE can be a tight fit if you're overweight. They have a test seat so your friend can make sure they fit before getting to the front of the line and being embarassed. Tell her to relax and go have a good time! She should be fine!!

well im 6'6 300pounds the only prob i have is on the test track. which shouldnt be a problem if you ride in the front because there is more room room up front.:thumbsup2

I'm overweight and do Disney all the time. I haven't been on everything, but the only real problems I've encountered were mostly with the turnstiles on some attractions, especially Haunted Mansion and It's a Small World.

I'm so glad someone answered this question. I have been curious also. Not for me but for my husband. I'm actually quite small but my husband is about 6'2" and 320 pounds. He carries his weight very well and doesn't look at all that big but I was still worried. If he got up to a ride and couldn't get on even though he would just joke about it and pretend he didn't care I know that he would. I want him to ride the rides with his kids and not get his feelings hurt.

I just want to mention something I saw at AK. On Primeval Whirl, I saw a family of 4...two small kids and two Pooh sized adults try to ride. They had to stop the ride to reload so all could fit. The problem was solved easily by putting one adult and one child in one car and the others in another car. Still the adults looked a bit embarassed so I thought I'd mention it.

Suz- you'd be hard pressed to find a woman that would be too large to ride almost every ride at DW. I would venture to say that even if she is a size 26, she'd still fit just fine in every ride.

If you check out umm...www.wdwinfo.com they have an area about 'pooh sized' guests. It's very informative. DW is NOT like rides at Six Flags or Cedar Point where sometimes even those that I consider to be small, have a hard time fitting.

I've read a lot of threads / answers to this very question. I took the time to search for this information myself, as I am "pooh sized' myself, though much less so than I was back when I started planning my family vacation to Disney for this August. Everything I've read about the subject says that Disney rides on the whole are VERY accommodating. One suggestion I have seen come up frequently is that on rides with seat belts, take the time to make certain you've pulled the seat belt all the way out before you sit down, that way you don't have to struggle to pull it out from under yourself once you are sitting down.

Aside from that, I would expect that anyone will be able to ride most every ride in the park regardless of size.

No problem with EE-

Early-on, when EE premiered, There was much discussion about larger-sized adults "fitting" into Expedition Everest seats.

Back in late January of 2006, EE previewed to the public for the first time (limited to AP holders and DVC guests).

At that time, the lap-bar restraints had only "one click" to lock into position, and that one position was very low and VERY SNUG into the lap.

Many Pooh-sizers had trouble getting the bar to lock into position and some had to try to lock the bar first, then attempt to "slither" down into the seat with that bar pressing hard into their mid-sections.

I was THERE at that time (late Jan. '06), rode EE several times, and personally witnessed how the lap-bars worked and how the guests had to maneuver themselves to fit in the cars.

Since that preview there have been lots of questions as to whether Disney had made further adjustments to the restraint system.
But nobody seemed to be able to say FOR SURE that there had actually been any physical changes made.

WELL, GOOD NEWS:

After a May, 2006 visit to WDW, I can say without question that:

YES, they DID change the restraint system!
There are now MANY lock-position "clicks" on that lap-bar and it can be considered LOCKED at a much "wider and roomier" position than the first timers experienced.

So, EE is now VERY FRIENDLY to Pooh-sized guests... even quite large and tall.

I wanted everyone to know that from someone who experienced the "before" and "after" of the EE restraints.

This means EE joins the other major attractions at WDW that are accommodating to adults of virtually any size!

I am a pooh sized adult and last visited WDW in Sept 2006. we plan on going again at Thanksgiving time this year. I had no problem riding the rides I wanted to ride including EE. I did not ride the aerosmith ride at MGM, but would like to hear some comments from those who have rode this recently. I am 5'11 and 325 pounds....but carry weight well so i don't have too many problems.

One humerous problem was at Small World. They put myself, wife (pooh sized) and our son in the front of those little boats. they then proceeded to put skinny people behind us. Needless to say, it was very uncomfortable because it felt as though we were riding nose down the entire ride.

I believe WDW is very accomidating to those of the larger breed.

Enjoy your trip without worries!

PS> someone tell me what you think of aerosmith from the larger perspective...please!

My DH (who is just about your size height and weight wise) and my DFIL (who is a little larger) both rode the Rock n Roller Coaster and said they had no problems fitting in. They didn't elaborate as a "comfort" factor, but I know they were both very happy because they were used to going to say, Six Flags and not being able to ride much.

DH and I are Pooh sized too and have had no problems with any rides. Rock-n-Roller Coaster is DH's favorite in fact.

Go and enjoy yourself! WDW is very accommodating to all sizes and shapes.

I am 270 lbs. and 5'4". I haven't had a problem fitting on any of the rides. A little trouble getting in and out of space mtn but, even the smaller people had trouble getting in and out of that one. As far as Aerosmith, no problem. Teacups can be a problem. When I get in them, I stand on my tiptoes on the top of the opening into the door so that my hips are almost over the top of the doorway. I get a little anxious sometimes because I'm not ready for the ride to begin (struggling with seatbelt) but, the cm's are ready to start it. This time I will make sure I pull the seatbelt out all the way before I sit down. Does anyone else have any suggestions to modify entrances and exits of rides?

Thanks to all who responded. I shared all the info with her and she feels better about it now.

My DH and I are both Pooh-sized. We ride almost everything! EE was great. I felt so comfortable riding EE that this time I went in the single rider line and was very comfortable for the ride. I did have moments of thinking in the line that I might "crush" the person next to me -- but I did not :rotfl: It was just a fun ride. My DH does the tea cups with my DD and he manages just fine. I second the space mountain thing -- everyone seems to have a problem with that one ;)

I am Pooh, Tigger and Piglet put together size and I haven't had any trouble riding any of the rides at Disney. Some of the turnstiles are small, but if you are uncomfortable trying to get through any of them, ask a CM to let you through the handicap gate. I will admit, I sometimes feel badly riding with strangers because I block them in photos, but I have a good time. Tell your friend no worries and I hope she enjoys herself.

The only time I have seen a problem was with a lady on Soarin. We were all loaded and they lady could not get the seat belt buckled. I felt so... sorry for her! She had to get up and leave in front of everyone! Has anyone had any experience with Soarin?
