I KNOW what to do, can easily tell other people what needs to be done (lower your food intake, exercise and water) but when it comes down to actually doing it myself, I can't seem to get it through my head. I know that I have a MAJOR addiction to chocolate and that's where my biggest problem is (aside from the fact that I don't exercise) But I LOVE drinking water (or crystal light) so that's what I mainly do. I only drink soda on occassion, but I have to try limiting the chocolate. Pam
Hi Pam,
For what it's worth, your above remarks reminded me very much of myself. I've needed to drop some weight for several years now (quit smoking, packed on the lbs. and never really got it off) and, although I knew what I needed to do, I didn't do it. I too was not a big soda drinker but am a certifiable chocoholic

It sounds like you really are motivated so, given our similarities, I figured I'd share my experience with you.
I got hooked on watching Celebrity Fit Club (yeah, I know, totally dorky reality TV crap but we all have our vices!) and over the course of a few seasons, became intrigued with Dr. Ian Smith's diet plans (
www.fatsmashdiet.com) so I finally bought his book with some skepticism as I'm not really into fad dieting, nor am I a fan of having to do lots of measuring, calculating of calories, or keeping track of tons of diet related info.
To my surprise and pleasure, it really is just a small book containing straight forward, easy to read, easy to follow guideline about how to change your eating habits. Essentially, he recommends four phases that start with a week of going "cold turkey" quitting all the bad foods and then gradually adding those things back into your diet over the subsequent weeks, but in more reasonable portions. I was shocked to find myself not even craving chocolate after the first week! Of course, exercise is also key and he provides numerous ways to gradually integrate it into your days.
I really liked it because it's kind of like "Fixing Your Eating Habits for Busy Dummies". It was such a no brainer and really didn't complicate my life at all. In just a few months, I've lost 20 pounds and am still going.
Anyway, since we seemed to have similar personality types, I thought this might be an option that would work for you! Whatever you decide to do, best of luck and have a great vacation!
