Weight loss for Wishers and becoming Leaner Meaners!

Good morning Lean Meaners. I am glad Debra stopped by......I was feeling lonely!

Debra: I am impressed that you hung in there to get all that testing done. What a big pain, but good that it is over!!!! You did a great job, I am proud of you. You must take care of your health!.......now I need to schedule my mammagram! I know what you mean with the torture side of the mammagram! Never a nice way to spend your time! :scared1::scared1: Fueling my runs/exercise has not been a treat. It's a struggle for me, and I don't think I am doing such a hot job of it! But, I will hang in there in the attempt to find the right mix! Nice that you met up with Cam and Howard....such nice folks!

AFM: My double dipping was taxing yesterday.......my early AM run on the TM was the worst! I kept saying 'I need to just quit!' but hanging in there for the whole 3 miles (lumbering I call it). I did have to miss Pilates last night, as the only parent around to take both boys to baseball.......but I ran 6 more miles on the trail, so not a total loss! So, this morning was made up of 10 to 15 minutes of bartering with myself to get on the TM again. I logged 9 miles yesterday, and sure did feel it today......but if I didn't run this AM, I would have logged no miles today since Pump class is tonight......so, finally I got on the dreaded TM and got it done......and it was much better than yesterday (because my 'boyfriend' Angel was very engaging today)!!!!!! I love him!:love: (and my dh wasn't home, still in bed.....I hate that too!)

A big shout out to the Meaners to check in today (Please????)

Beth

I'm here, Beth!

I'm juggling alot at work today, so I can't do a lovely Debraesqe post, but ...

I did 4 mi this morning on the TM. I was supposed to do 4 yesterday, and ended up with 2 very ugly miles last night. This morning was a vast improvement. I have yoga at noon, and then off to a meeting in the 'burbs.

Oh no! My "boyfriend" Angel has been two-timing me! Say it isn't so! :lmao:

Debra -- I am so proud of you for showing and and staying through all those medical appts. I think I might have bolted! :scared1: You are a brave, brave soldier, and deserve :grouphug: and accolades!

Vicky -- I think ice cream "cake" is the easiest dessert known to man. You basically just smoosh ice cream into a pie crust and frost it, then put it back in the freezer. We also add sprinkles. It's yummylicious!

Jeanne -- So glad to see you posting again! I know things have been extra crazy for you, and you also need :grouphug: and our relentless support. Just keep :fish:

A big howdy  to everyone else!

Have a great Lean Mean week!
Maria :upsidedow

Hello Lean Meaners!

I'm sorry I haven't been around much lately. Things are kind of crazy right now with the kids' sports and activities, DS7 is preparing for his First Communion, DD has another appt for her arm tomorrow (she may have the cast off before WDW ), I'm trying to pack for WDW, oh, and did I mention that the baby has been sick?

I really hope to catch up with everyone soon. I'm hoping to be all packed by the weekend. We have no plans on Monday (except to go to bed early since we leave for WDW at the crack of dawn on Tues), so I'm hoping to catch up with all of you then. If that doesn't work out, then I'll definitely catch up once I'm back form the World.

Have a great week! :flower3:

Hello Lean Meaners!

Beth - Congrats on the 1 pound loss!! And look at you go with those workouts! I noticed you mention trail running... do you like that more than street running? Just curious, I've never tried it myself.

Debra - Good job with all those medical tests! I haven't had a mamogram before but I have seen them done - yeah it was probably invented by a guy.

Apparently, the difference between a pear and an apple is in the fibre. I asked my PT last night because I thought it was an acidic thing. Sue on my team Googled it and an apple is 3.2g of fibre while a pear has 5.1g. I always thought an apple had more fibre, acid...

The eggs ... I love 'em so I'm still on the fence since it's only one person who has said they're bad as they are. I have to look up the name of the book but the researcher is J. David Spence.

AFM - I'm going out tonight for a 4 miler. I'll probably just run on an outdoor track at a school near DF's house. I'm going to get him to come out too and that's the only way we can run together since he does intervals.

Have a great day everyone!!

Heads up, dear Wish teams, members and fans! We are doing another mixer. This one is dedicated to Vicky, our own little bunnyfoo!

The question is this: What is your favorite vegetable recipe? Double points if it is not just a sidedish or salad! The points can be cashed in duing marathon weekend when you see how your recipe helped us all become lythe and sleek, knowing beyond a doubt that we, all of WISH, are the best team there!!

Can't wait for dinner, now! See ya! Connie, captain of Hakuna Matata!

I ran today for the first time in 9 days due to my vacation. My oh my, my body really appreciated the rest. My IT band was good to go, so I must have had a micro-tear in it for a while. Time off allowed it to heal. Good stretching before, during, and after the run.

8 1/4 miles, 1:17:02.

Guru Les is on injured reserve, and will likely need back surgery to repair his disk. So I'm running alone for a while.

Good morning everyone.

Vicky: If you have a nice safe trail near you try trail running. It can be so much fun. You have to go slower depending on how rugged the trail is, but it's such a great workout. I was a little concerned about twisting an ankle, but just watched my footing diligently. I felt like I was a kid out running for the fun of it. We have super wonderful trails in my town. Now that you've brought it up, I think I need to get to one of them soon.

Beth: Congrats on the 15 lbs. Your hard work is paying off.

Jeff: Glad your body appreciated the rest. Did you enjoy the Masters? What an exciting ending.

Julie: I hope you are enjoying this gorgeous weather we are having. We so deserve it. Check out www.baevents.com for a few races coming up this summer. I've signed up for the May and June races. Have a great time at WDW.

Maria: Also check out baevents.com. It would be nice to have a mini-WISH meet this summer. I also might do the New Charles River Run on June 28th. It's part of WW new walking promotion they are doing.

Debra: Good job on getting your tests done. I'm sort of the opposite of you in that I'll do any medical test they allow me to. Yes, I voluntarily went for a colonoscopy. I'm just so paranoid that I have some illness that is asymptomatic and it will only be thru testing that I'll be able to find it in time. I'm glad you got to meet up with other Wishers. Any time you want to come to the Boston area I'd be happy to meet up with you. Maria and Julie can join us too. Have you chosen a Fall Marathon yet? Cape Cod Marathon is a very pretty marathon. Small, but nicely run. It's usually around Halloween. I'm hoping to run Baystate Marathon in Lowell, MA in October. Just throwing a few suggestions your way.

Amy: Sorry the medal issue gets worse. Good luck in getting down to a new decade by your bday.

Jeanne: Welcome back.

Tracey: Hope you had a good Easter.

I continue to struggle with my eating. I made it back to WW this week and skipped the weigh in because I knew it would just depress me. The leader spoke about that great feeling you have when you wake up in the morning when you are eating well. I'm really on a quest to feel that for a few days. My bday is coming up next week, so I sort of know I won't be stellar, but I hope I can be reasonable with my eating. My running has taken a back seat to my busy life lately. I hope things will settle down a bit now and I can find a good groove.

Have a great day everyone.
Cindy

Hey Everybody!

Don't forget the vegetable mixer at Hakuna Matata, today! We really need your ideas!!!

Good morning! I am glad to see some of you stopped by!

Vicky: I wanted to do my speed work on the local track last week, but this seems to be a busy time for sports. When I got there a lacross game just started, so running around the track was out! I had to go to the local park to do it, and had to dodge dogs and people walking the whole time. UGH! How was your workout? **by the way, my local trail isn't really a trail.. Most of it's gravel (so it is softer) but it's not like going through the woods. The trees line the trail, but that's the extent of it! :rolleyes1

Cindy: Sometimes, just getting the eating on track is the hardest thing. Something always comes up, and it goes out the window. Holiday's and weekends are the worst for me. Hard to start over again! Hope things even out for you soon! Good job getting back to WW! It's the hardest step starting again, but the best thing you could have done! Good luck with it!

Mike: Glad you made it back home, but sorry to hear about Guru Les! I hope he is on the road to recovery soon! Glad to hear that your IT band is on the mend!

AFM: Yeah, I am happy with the weight loss. I would love to lose another 15 pounds, but would be really happy with another 10! I am looking forward to Nancy's return to work soon.......I can't wait! I will then probably back down on the twice a day workouts......on my days off I will just workout once a day!!!! :scared1: Check out the mixer today, I posted a healthy Mac and Cheese recipe!

Beth

Vicky, Beth, Deb, & Cindy,

The Masters was spectacular. If anyone ever has the chance to go, even if it's only a practice round, MAKE THE TRIP!!!

Augusta National Golf Club is incredibly beautiful. I went over 9,000 miles to get there and back, and it was well worth it.

Vicky, my two friends in the new clip were with me. Both golfing buddies of mine, one from Indiana, the other from Kansas. They jumped at the opportunity to spend the day with me at the Masters.

Jeanne, we just happened to park our car, and were walking to find somewhere for breakfast, when the report asked to interview us. As you can see, we had fun with it.

Yo, to all the WISH team!

Deb,

If you plan on attending a conference here, I think there's one called "Tanning 101" and another called "See the bottom of a Mai Tai glass."

Is that incentive enough for you?

Bring your shoes, I'll take you and Dood out for a run.

Evening Lean Meaners! And I do mean evening! Up late, waiting for DOOD to get home from a long teaching day. He went out after work for a drink with colleagues, but I generally can't sleep until he gets home anyway....

Beth: Part of me really likes the experimentation, figuring out what works best for what kind of workout, trying new nutritional things, etc. It's the blankety-blank scale that messes things up for me. I cannot believe how many miles you put in on a double-dipping day. Have you ever thought about doing the Goofy, because I think some people use that kind of strategy. I mean, I know that you generally can't go to the marathon weekend because of Nancy and your work schedules....

Thanks for posting the recipe for a healthy mac and cheese. You just know that's one of my favorite comfort foods. Yummy! :cloud9:

Maria: I just have to point out that your ugly 2 miles was followed by 4 miles the next day and yoga. That's a lot of miles in two days. :thumbsup2 And I hate to tell you this, but I think Angel is more than two-timing you! He gets around, he does. ;)

Julie: Oh, I'm so glad that you get a little bit of time to relax before the trip. Now, try to make sure the trip itself is also relaxing, huh?

Vicky: The fiber? (Love the difference in spelling for American and Canadian English, love it!) I never would have thought a pear had more. Wow. I swear to you that I'm going to get to the bottom of this whole egg mystery.

Jeff: I know I've said this, but I'm so glad your ITB issues have subsided. I was worried about your runs, as you know. Send my well wishes and PD to Guru Les. :thumbsup2 And of course I'm happy that you got to have the trip of a lifetime (literally, in your case, from what you said in the news clip). You deserve it. And I always have my eye out for conferences in your neck of the woods--even before I met you. :lmao:

Cindy: I'm learning to love trail running. I feel so much pressure to work on being faster (because I'm slow), but trail running is a good way for me to "be in the moment" more. Thank you for the reminder. I also loved what your WW leader said about how you feel when you're eating well. So true--physically, mentally, emotionally. I'm still trying to get things under control from this last weekend, so I know the difficulty of finding the groove. Don't beat yourself up too much, because you should be happy for your birthday.

DOOD and I haven't chosen a fall marathon yet, unfortunately. I have the hardest time getting him to commit to a race. Not running, but to a race. (It's the job schedule.) So thank you for the suggestions. One of the things I love about being here is I really think I learn a lot about the races out there that are "worth doing," plus the suggestions have the added amenity of having WISHers attending. :goodvibes

As for me: About the medical tests. It's so funny. I was talking to my mom this weekend (Easter and all) and we ended up talking about my recent spate of tests. Guess where I learned to avoid the doctor at all costs? :sad2: Cindy's way is much healthier.

Oh, and here's the corker. I won't talk too much more about the med. tests, as they're really pertinent only to my health. But I have borderline high cholesterol! :scared1: (My good cholestoral is in the normal/near optimal range, but I'm just over the edge for the overall number.) My doctor's not worried, but I'm a little unhappy. I'm a vegetarian, I work out 6 days a week, and I track my foods on SP. And I'm still getting numbers that are high for my lifestyle. Since this seems to be something you all might know something about, I thought I'd ask. Any of you watch your cholesterol levels? Any suggestions?

Good morning Lean Meaners! Another round today.....hope it's as good as yesterday! ;) I had a great day yesterday, and would love a repeat!

Debra: Boy, you were up late! Glad DOOD got to go out for a few drinks though.....sounds like he's having a time of it at work. I know the feeling! So, a high cholesterol reading? What a bummer......do you have a family history of high cholesterol? Usually, that's the thing that gets you....you certainly aren't getting it from your lifestyle! It's a hard thing to beat if it runs in the family. Did the Doc recommend anything? Meds? Diet? I know you have to watch processed carbs (bars, cereals, etc) which raises Triglycerides really bad (found that out with dh's Special K diet!) It's the sugar. I tried to explain it to dh this way......carbs (sugar) makes your blood system sticky, and the cholesterol sticks to the vessel walls, thus making the cholesterol reading high. If you decrease the amount of carbs (processed sugar) it should improve. Don't know if this helps your situation, but thought I would throw that out there!

Maria: Oh, yeah, our boyfriend Angel is sure making the rounds! Did you see it today? I love it......the crew ended up in Las Vegas ( I love Vegas!). Still waiting for them to rescue Cordy.....who came back in the second episode today, but I had to get in the shower!

AFM: Yeah, Debra, it is amazing how the miles add up. I always think "why do I bother getting up for only 3 miles" but if I do it every day, the miles do add up nicely. I am actually getting in over 30-35 miles a week altogether! That's pretty good for me. I couldn't do it without the AM workouts! I am really happy to have elevated things where they are without an injury. I think that's all do to the Pump class making me stronger. It's a good formula. I did end up only doing a 30 min stretch session last night, instead of another run. My muscles are really sore from the abuse I received at Pump class on Tuesday. :scared1::scared1::scared1:

Hope everyone has a good Thursday (it's almost the weekend!).

Beth

Hey Lean Meaners!

Cindy - I think in order for me to run on a trail, I'd have to go a little north of the city. Most of the park land in the city has paved trails through it and most of the time people have houses backing onto the ravines. It has been something that I've wanted to try for a while. Btw, I think it's great that you do all those medical tests.

Beth - I'm going to get ingredients tonight for your mac & cheese recipe! I'm hoping to make it on Friday. Yummy! The track I go to isn't too busy but there are a lot of track hogs. Lots of people who walk and don't get me wrong. I have no problems with walkers but why do they need to walk on the inside track AND 3 people wide. Now that you mention it, I haven't done any speed work yet but it's something I should get done. Congrats on your 15 pound loss! Sorry I must have missed it in one of your earlier posts :)

Jeff - Is that Tanning 101 class open to anyone? There's a course that I could go for! Glad to hear you had a fantastic time at the Masters :)

Debra - I wouldn't have thought of you as someone with high cholesterol but I guess that's why it's important to get those tests done. I have to admit that the last two physicals I did, I "lost" the paperwork for my blood test.

I've stopped eating eggs until I can read more about them. I wanted to ask my PT about them but he's on vacation and I won't see him for two weeks. Speaking of eggs... DF's mom made a sponge cake with nine eggs ... not just regular eggs, double yolk eggs!! So I figure that's gotta be 18 eggs in the whole cake ... huh???

AFM - I have to admit that I skipped out on my short runs this week :( Just little things here and there that needed to get done. At least my eating has been under control - but I haven't hopped on the scale to see if there's been any loss. I'll do that tomorrow.

Have a great day everyone :)

Hey Meaners!

It's my rest day, I'm going to try not to feel too guilty. I've hit all my workouts this week, and almost all the distances (2 miles instead of 4 Mon., but I did do 4 mi instead of 3 Tues.). I'm debating whether to up my LR to 7 tomorrow to make up for the mile I'm still missing. It may be a time factor, I have to sandwich my workout between work and an appointment.

Beth -- I don't actually get to see Angel much since I'm not home when it's aired, but I still remain faithful. He's my favorite vamp -- but I also have a soft spot for Spike. ;) By the way, I keep meaning to tell you thanks for posting the lyrics. So powerful -- how could you not be inspired?! :goodvibes

Debra -- If your cholesterol is high, I don't think there's much hope for the rest of us! :rotfl: Seriously, as I understand it some people just have so much that no matter what they do, medication is the only way to treat it. DH was borderline and changed his diet and started working out, and it went away, so we were very lucky. I don't think you can work out much more, and your diet is already plant-based! I will echo Cindy -- we'd love to do a mini WISH meet in Boston! :lovestruc Did I mention my basement is actually an in-law apt? It has it's own entrance, kitchen, fireplace and bathroom. Just a little incentive...

Connie -- Sorry I didn't make it over to the Mixer. I'm not really the cook in our house, and I tend to just eat my veggies raw. :confused3

Cindy -- My dh is signed up for the Harpoon 5 Miler. It filled in less than 2 hrs after registration opened

Jeff -- I watched your clip from the Masters and you just looked so happy to be there. I'm glad it was all you had hoped for! :thumbsup2

Vicky -- I had a pear for breakfast this morning. They seem to have a 1-2 day window once they ripen, so we eat them fast! ::yes::

Julie -- So much going on with you right now! I know you are looking forward to a nice relaxing Beach Club stay. I could barely get dh and ds off the slide, and I know your little guy will love the shallow sandbottom section of the pool. You are going to have a blast! :woohoo:

Ok, I have to get situated for audioconferences and a webcast this afternoon. I hope everyone is having an awesome day, and post-tax satisfaction.

Maria :upsidedow

Hi all.......trying to find my way back into the groove.

I am wearing my pain patch for the first time since I got them from the pharmacy. At this point, I'm not sure how much good it's doing. I am definitely not as sore as I have been, but I am also not pain-free either. Hubby says it may take a few applications for it to work, but I am not going to be using them 24-7. They last 12 hours, so next time I will try using one about 16 hours before I really need it and another one afterward. I took a really hard spin class this morning and was determined to do 2 miles on the treadmill after that, but they were all being used and I didn't want to wait. Hopefully I can do the 2.3 mile loop near my home this evening. I actually prefer pavement to the treadmill anyway since I never have to worry about adjusting the speed, incline etc.

I never did get to the Wednesday mixer on the other thread, but must go check out Beth's recipe. I absolutely LOVE mac&cheese, but usually don't make it unless there are more people in the house to eat it. Just a heads up for your next WDW trip......the mac&cheese at Chefs de France is to die for! It is definitely not your boxed Kraft variety, nor is it low in calories either. But if you're at WDW, it's an indulgence worth breaking the diet for. I had never ordered it before until last fall when Nancy turned me on to it. Now I want it all the time!

Deb: can't understand why you of all people should have high cholesterol. It must be a genetic predisposition rearing its ugly head. It's funny, but I also had blood work done and that was the only value that was a little elevated for me. My HDL was nice and high so the ratio ended up being in the normal range, but the doc would like to see the LDL drop nonetheless. In my case there is no mystery......I am a complete carnivore. Just love my steak.....accompanied by potatoes, of course! My goal is to limit my red meat to only once or twice a week and eat more salmon in it's place. Can I use that for my April goal since I never posted one? :thumbsup2

Keep up the good work to all the other lean meaners!

Vicky,

In your case, you'd need to enroll in sunburn 101, and how to waddle without hurting lab class. :lmao:

Hey Team!

Keep up the miles and smiles everyone, you're all doing great!

As for me, it was a bit hot out today, so I cut my run portion short to 6 miles. When I got back to the park where I start, I jumped into the Pacific Ocean for 400 yards of swimming.

And so my triathlon training begins. LOL.

My soon to be 11 year old daughter is training for her second kids triathlon next month. She's running pretty well, which is her least favorite of the three elements.

I'll be "Mr. Mom" this week, as the Queen will be taking her annual trip with students to Washington D.C. Lots of fun things planned in her absence, and gourmet cooking with the girls. :thumbsup2

Have a happy Aloha Friday.

Good morning Meaners! It's Friday!!! :cool1::cool1::cool1:

Jeff: Your such a good Dad! Let us know what you and the girls make ok? Maybe post some recipes! I love cooking with my boys. I am bound and determined that they be able to 'hold their own' in the kitchen. But, so far, they are only really good at desserts! (That's my favorite you see!) I love to bake, and they really like the results, so they are more than willing to help me out in the kitchen then! DS #1 likes to put dinner together too.....and he is more likely to try something new if he has cooked it......so it's a good 'mom' tool for those things he insists he doesn't like!

Jeanne: I am glad you are making it back here! We missed you. I hope the pain in your feet improves with the pain medicine. Is there anything else being planned on for your feet? My dbrother (and SIL) are both podiatrists!

Maria: Oh, I know what you mean with our 'boyfriend'. It's bad when I am sort of looking forward to getting up and running (and catching an eye full!). I do love all the characters, but right now Wesley is still 'on the dark side' with Lilliah and all. And today Cordy is making out with Angel's son! :scared1: WTH? What's that about?

AFM: I am glad it's Friday! I will be heading to Wilmington DE with my sister and some friends to celebrate said sister's birthday. We will be heading into Philly for Longwood Gardens on Saturday. Staying in DE is much cheaper than Philly, and not much of a commute. I got up every day this week for my 3 miles!!!!:cool1: Not too shabby! I got an extra 3 miles in last night on the TM, since the boys had an unscheduled 'make-up' baseball practice set up at the last minute (I was not happy). So when we got there, there was no open field since the stupid coach didn't even check the schedule. So by the time they worked out a sharing situation with another team, it was to late to go for a run (and I missed Pump class to boot). I was really PO'ed with the whole thing. And I needed to make some cookies for the weekend and pack and everything. Stupid coach......and ds#2 was mad because the coach ended up leaving for a meeting by 6:30. The practice was not worth the aggrevation it caused. But, I did manage and extra 40 minutes on the TM. And I got it done this morning too!

Beth

Beth: Yeah, it's that point of the semester, where DOOD is all tension. For good reason. That's the good thing about our profession, unlike so many others. We can pretty much gauge when things will be rough and work around it. I should also say that, like Vicky, I'm making your mac & cheese this weekend. It'll be good comfort food for this time of year. DOOD thanks you in advance.

Holy cow, that's a lot of mileage! More than twice mine right now. :worship: And like you pointed out, you're doing it safely and without injury. Your base has got to be much stronger than it was only a few months ago. Woo hoo!

Have a great weekend with your DSis and her birthday. (I know you will!) And thanks for the info on staying near Philly on the cheap. I need such insider information, as I only live 4 hours away from Philly and really should visit. P.S. Silly coach. Who wants the aggravation and waste of time? Bet it fueled your later WO!

Vicky: Cake is healthy, you hear? I refuse to think anything else. What is that Bill Cosby routine--it's got eggs and milk, so it's a good breakfast item. :rotfl2: Bah, you're too young to know what I'm talking about. Just trust me, it's good for you (and I think eggs must be, too). It's especially good for after a short run. ;)

Maria: Oh, an in-law apartment. Now, all I have to do is figure out how to get to be your in-law without getting in some serious legal trouble. :rotfl: Why is the Harpoon 5 Miler so popular and good luck to DH on it! And to you, my dear, big congratulations on hitting your workouts this week. Great consistency! ;) :worship:

Jeanne: I'm sorry to hear you're not completely pain-free with the patches. I guess I sort of thought that's would happen. Or that's what I hoped. How does the spin class feel? Are you able to do XT without much pain?

Jeff: I love that DD is doing her second tri. I know her immediate reaction after the first one wasn't quite a ringing endorsement. So I'm really impressed she's giving it another go. And that you support her, of course, and in all things. A good father, indeed! :thumbsup2 Have you learned the dance steps to the new Hannah Montana song yet.

Tracy: A shout-out to you, special! I haven't seen you around recently and hope you're doing okay! :goodvibes

As for me: Yeah, there's a family history of high cholesterol, but only on one side. But, pout, pout. Why does it seem like we only inherit the bad things from our parents? My father's jaw, my mother's tendency to gain weight easily and from the waist down. Not my mother's teeth and my father's cholesterol level. Not fair, not fair. Oh, I guess I did inherit my father's sense of humor. But I'm not convinced that's a good thing. :rotfl2:

I'm hoping to double-dip tomorrow with an outside run and then some gym time. It's nice out, so I'm thinking the gym will be pleasantly empty. I like to pretend it's my personal fitness club, you know. And this weekend we'll be trying some Skinny Cow ice cream. Because it's ice-cream season and DOOD is still drawing the line at the "real" stuff. :rolleyes1

Deb, there is no ice cream season, it's a year round activity. Just like running.
