Weight limits on strollers

I have a question for all those parents of preschoolers out there. Did you follow the weight limit on your stroller, or did you allow a bigger child in a stroller that was designed for a smaller child? What was your experience and how did it hold up?

I have a double umbrella stroller that has a weight limit of 35 pounds per child. The twins are now 38 pounds and 47 pounds. I really don't care if the stroller is destroyed by the end of the trip. We really don't use a stroller at home anymore, but I'm concerned about having to carry them to the busses (our trip is next winter). I also don't want to buy a new stroller for one trip. If this doesn't work out I'll just bite the bullet and rent strollers as necessary and carry them when I have to.

Well, that is a over the total limit of the stroller by 15 lbs. I think that is going to be a problem. I know that my DD is starting to get too big to ride on the back of my Peg Perego Pliko. The few times she does it, it is VERY difficult to push and steer and it bends the stroller a little bit and causes it to rub against the wheels. I can understand not caring about the stroller getting trashed, but it possibly might not even be able to be used for long periods of time. I just re-read your post, and since you're not going until next winter, I'd have to say you'll be out of luck. I personally think now at their current weights the stroller will be OVER stressed, and add anything additional to the stroller, bags, things in the basket, it probably wouldn't even work now, let alone next year when they are bigger. I'm guessing that you'll have to rent next year, since I don't think the stroller will be able to handle the stress of all that extra weight and won't even be usable, regardless of getting trashed.

I pushed my double to the limit! In fact, one day the wheels litterally fell off!

My twin dds were about 45 lbs when it gave up the ghost!

My youngest is now almost 7, and just about 50 lbs. We're taking her stroller for one final trip in March. She has to take two steps for every one the rest of us take!

We have a double umbrella with the 35 pound per child weight limit, and we pushed that sucker all over Europe for 22 days straight with a 38 pound and 42 pound kid in it! It's pretty beat up (but then, it scaled a Swiss Alp!!), but it never went kaput on us and is still usable. We love the WDW rental strollers, though, so the umbrella has always stayed home for WDW trips.
