I am going on the August Rep - cruise from CA to FL :cool1: , and I am debating if I should bring my portable nebulizer with me in case of an asthma attack ( several warnings have been discussed esp. on the transit day through the canal). It weighs about 4 to 5 lbs. -- not a big deal, but I will have luggage for a 2.5 week trip with me too!

On the flight down - I'm on Jetblue - so it won't be problem (weight limit is 70lbs. per bag), but coming back it will be on 50lbs. :confused3

Is there an exception if the overweight item is for a medical condition?

You really should be taking all medical related stuff on the airplane. You don't want to check anything that you absolutely can't be without or that's expensive.

Most airlines let each person check 2 or 3 bags, even with a 50 pound maximum you should be fine.

I would carry it on! You can carry on one extra item if one of them is a medical device. Don't check thing that would be a major crisis if lost and medical equipment falls in that category

Agreed! And there's no weight limit on carryon's--although I can't imagine a carryon being overweight...

Carry it on board. Medical equipment does not count towards the carryon limit. Never check items you can't live without!

I would take with me as carryon. I wouldn't want my medical equipment put with my luggage and possibly lost or bounced around and broken. Medical equipment is not counted in the carryon limits.

Most airlines recommend that you do NOT put your medical equipment with the checked luggage.

Have a safe trip.
