Just a quick note to warn others to read the small print on their airline regulations.

I knew that 50 pounds was the limit so when I packed from home I was very careful and weighed each case. I was fine and not over the limit with any of our cases.

When I left from our resort I put shoes and bags of dirty laundry in one bag and what every was left in the other. I figured I was fine coming down and I was actually taking less back because I had traveled there with Christmas presents for the family in FL and assorted food snacks.

As I checked my luggage in the weighed it and the lady at the counter asked me "to remove 2 1/2 pounds of whatever was on top by the zipper and put it in another family member's bag"! :earseek:

I was fantically reaching into the bag on the scale and pulling out cans of antiperspirant and small bags of makeup and first aid kits and anything I could reach and trying to jam it into another bag! :earseek: What a mess and in the meantime I could feel the breathe of the next people waiting in line for me to be done! :guilty:

So just a warning! They are being very picky out the weight of cases! Have one case much lighter in case you pack unevenly and go over the weight limit with one case.

We took our NEW DVC bag just for this reason When she said lose 4 lbs we just put some shoes in the bag and went on our way.Always leave a small unpacked bag in your luggage for this .

SWA will fine you for the bags being overweight.

Trust me. I am $75 broker. :(

While playing paintball in 2002 coming home in Feb from Marti gras to BWI in Md I picked up some beads for DD.I was 10 lbs overweight and that was when SWA allowed 75lb.

Well because I had my paintball gun on top and it being right after 9-11 I didn't want to cause a seen so I also just paid up .

Thats why now I always pack a extra carry bag in all my luggage .I can either check it if I only have 1 bag or put my backpack in as well as some shoes and stuff and use it as carry-on.

i take travel size toiletries on the way down. then i buy full size while at disney and just throw them away before i leave. all that shampoo, conditioner, hairspray, baby bath stuff is heavy!

most airlines have a 50# limit per bag but SWA allows up to 3 bags where many of the other airlines only allow 2.
We also were over by 2 pounds returning from WDW we knew ahead of time that our bag was over but the others were all too close to move things around.

Given the financial condition of most airlines, it is likely that agents at check-in are going to pay very close attention to luggage weights now, especially on return flights from popular destinations like Orlando. It's an easy way to score some extra money.

Also, there have been postings that airlines are now fining the skycaps if they allow "overweight" by them...so the old tip the skycap trick to get by may not work.

There have been unsubstantiated rumors that the skycaps are getting a % of the money collected for overweight baggage.

Although I wouldn't count on a tipped skycap being able to waive the fee they're certainly more likely to assist you in re-arranging your stuff, getting you a box or bag you can check for extra stuff or suggesting what items to move to your carry on so you won't be overweight than the airline desk clerk.
