Weight gain at WDW?

You can definitely gain significant real weight. My DH and I have, At home we eat very lean. At WDW we really let go Sample of our day on vacation Breakfast in the room: greek yogurt with some granola mixed in, fruit and black coffee Morning Snack: split a cinnamon roll Lunch by the pool: straight up Hendrick's martini ( no mixers so not high in calories as those fruity drinks), me: chicken sandwich or salad, and fruit, a few fries; DH: burger and fries or pork sliders and fries and a martini same as me Afternoon Snack: usually ice cream Dinner: Usually signature TS: Me: 2 Martini , salad app and a bite of DH's app, fish dish of some sort, split dessert; DH: usually and appetizer steak or pork tenderloin and potato ,2 martini, split dessert ( dinner even with some smarter choices like mine holding sauces and dressings on the side can run close to 1500-2000 calories, DH's steak dinner can be close to 2500) Usually we have a night cap as well, maybe a snack of some sort We gain like 3-4 REAL pounds in a week. Real as in it takes weeks for them to come off and with a lot of work. FWIW we walk about 10-12 miles a day there as well It would be very possible to gain 10 real pounds If a person went and had a real breakfast, burger and fry lunch, and full dinner of app, entree, dessert, a few pina coladas or fruity drinks throughout the day ( can be between 400-600 calories a piece !), and a few snacks you can easily consume 6-8 thousand calories a day. You aren't walking that off

We can agree to disagree. lol from the view point of someone who has worked with dietitians and personal trainers 10 real pounds doesn't happen over night or in a week, unless you are not moving at all.

I probably eat 3-4k calories a day at disney and never gain an actual pound. I bloat a little for a week after but nothing significant. My size 2 pants may appear a tad tight by the end but I know it's not actual pounds that take time to work off. I also workout while at disney, walk all over and carry a 30 pound toddler a significant portion of the day so that might help.

I am not reading all pages on this thread. But, YES, the way I see others eating at WDW, they are eating enormous portions of high fat foods. My family does not eat like that, nor could I finish that size portion. We also are not the type to walk around the park with leftovers. So our solution to this is that we share plates. We have four kids, so I will share a plate with one of the kids and DH will as well, etc. I know how my kids eat and who likes similar dishes. Sharing plates also saves us money as well as doesn't waste food.

I eat high fat all the time. Fat isn't what makes you gain weight. Excess calories make you gain weight. Period.

I find Disney to usually be a wash. Yes, I am eating foods that are higher in calories at Disney, but I am also more active. As such, my TDEE is higher then it would be at home which helps offset said calories. I also find that I eat less in general at Disney due to being so tired.

Didn't read all the replies, but we eat straight garbage every time we are at WDW. I throw my good eating morals out the window and indulge while I'm on vacation. However, with the amount of walking and sweating from the heat, the most I have gained is a pound after a week. I'm ok with that considering how awful we eat while there!

We were on the dining plan for about 6 days and I ate more and more often than I usually do. By the 3rd or 4th day, I could tell my pants were tighter, but after we came home, my pants were actually looser than before. I don't weigh myself but I can tell that I've actually lost weight. Like others have said, I think the walking and the heat has a lot to do with that.

We just returned last night from 11 days at DW and I didn't gain any weight. We are always on the go, though. We are RD people, who walk as fast as we can from ride to ride in those first couple of hours. I watch every bite I eat when I'm home, so on vacation I do splurge with maybe a Mickey bar or something in the afternoon and a nice TS dinner at night, usually followed by dessert. Disney has some great options if you want to watch what you eat, but for me, splurging is something I do once a year on vacation...:)

I generally come home weighing 3-5 pounds less. While we splurge at meals and will often have dessert, we also walk significantly more than at home.

I usually come home around max 5 pounds heavier.
I've never managed to keep track of calories/macros while down in Disney, but I do at least try to limit myself to one "treat" per day (whether that be a cupcake, a churro, ice cream, milkshake, etc)

With the FD plan that's definitely easier to gain even more weight! I personally still eat breakfast in the room, and usually use a lot of the QS credits towards a kids meal because the portions are so much better sized for me! Also know that you can swap out any side or dessert on a QS meal for carrots, grapes, or apple slices instead of another cake or fries kinda thing.

For the sit down meals, especially buffets, I definitely indulge in carbs, and I don't eat a lot of them at home anymore, there's lots of pasta, lots of mashed potatoes, and potato casseroles, etc, I usually just try and balance it out with half a plate of veggies/salad :rotfl:

Long story short, even with all the walking, you'll come home a couple of pounds heavier, especially if you're snacking a lot, or drinking a lot of pop.

Also be wary if you/your kids don't eat a lot of that type of food at home, try to stick to more of an "at home" kinda of diet, your body won't be able to digest it as easy if you go from healthy eating to burgers three times a day, and you'll probably end up getting sick :thumbsup2

not trying to be combative but I have seen it
I am small and very athletic. Size 4 and either run 70 miles a week or bike 200 miles a week. You said you eat 3-4 k a day. My example of how someone could gain that weight was looking at someone who was eating/drinking 6-8k day . At that rate it is possible. We went a few years back with another couple and they ate way more then DH and I and either had sugary sodas or fruity alcoholic drinks and they gained considerable real weight in an 8 day trip. They still complain about it today and it was 4 years ago.FWIW
