I know this is a bit sad - but I can't remember if they sell Weetabix in the States. Can someone please tell me. Also, what is the situation re taking foodstuffs such as Marmite and baked beans in your case - is it OK? What do other people find they can't do without?

Hi SandieUK,

Equally sad, I can tell you they do sell Weetabix in "Brits Corner" in several Publix on 192 and at Champions Gate (Just off I-4). Its not our Weetabix though. Its made in Canada, if my memory serves me, and my wife tells me it doesn't taste the same!!!!

We end up taking some in a plastic container along with marmalade and other bits and pieces. Marmite is fine. It doesn't contain meat extract. It,s oxo cubes and such like the Customs dont like. Beans are also OK but a bit heavy:D

I can confrim that they sell 'Organic Weetabix' at most Publix's on the 192.
Not sure what the difference is , only buy it for my son and he eats it okay. It's not cheap either about $2.40 for a pack of 12.

They sell Heinz Beans too, $1.39 a can I think.

The only food things we take are Walker's crisps , about 40 bags, my little boy only eats Prawn Cocktail and Worcester Sauce although he likes the USA equivalent of Cheesy Wotsits, they are about 5 times the size!

As for the one ingredient we 'must' take, well staying in a villa and dong a lot of cooking, Bisto gravy granules...the Americans don't 'do' good gravy!!

I take crisps with me too and Pringles, polo mints and breakfast cereal. We are staying onsite and don't have a car so this saves us quite a bit.

I always thought that Heinz beans and weetabix were American products that we also get over here, I hadn't realised that they weren't. However our hotel didn't have kelloggs honey loops last year, was that just bad luck or is it another product that I perceive as being American that isn't?

there are loads of kellogs cereals in the US, a much better selection than at home.......saying that most of them are sugar loaded....apple jacks (yum), fruit loops (yum yum) and last year they had the hunny b's that are available here now, and a Buzz version that had purple (yes purple) biscuit bits and a Mickey version.....they are all kellogs. then there s the regular adult cereal......

check out the Publix Direct website for a full selection....it is awesome....

we take tea bags, but not much else.

last year we really struggled to find baked beans, which my dd loves. We bought some american ones and they have a barbecue sauce on them rather than our typical tomato sauce, but i did manage to find some 'english' style baked beans in walmart - a major triumph!

I'm sure I saw Weetabix in the Albertsons near our villa, but not sure of the price as we just eat American cereal while we are out there. How often can you eat pink and purple cereal in your life?

Thanks everyone!

Yes, we did find the British Food section at Publix and yes, I did pay through the nose for Heinz Baked Beans but they were absolutely worth it!

I also bought Kelloggs Crunchy Nut Cornflakes out there and they looked and tasted nothing like our British ones. Oh, and another thing - I couldn't find small bags of crisps anywhere - only mega bags.

To even things up I have to say that I have found the best coleslaw ever in Publix - really creamy and finely shredded.

As I said - a bit sad really!

A box of Special K or Cheerios for me and Weetos for DD lasts us nicely for the 2 weeks. We get milk from ASMo shop (no car you see). DH doesn't eat breakfast.

If we could carry it we'd take a few bottles of Bud - much cheaper at our local shop than at ASMo shop - we drink them in the room when DD has fallen asleep. But talk about taking coals to Newcastle.

Oh yes - a few bags of Walkers crisps as well.

Sue
