New Cruisers

carolsherman - on EBTA '11

dylan'smom - Bev - EBTA '11

hazelandannie - "We are Hazel and Annie and have spent the past 10 years or so taking our holidays in WDW. We were due to take our holiday in California this year but that fell through, and after spending an entire week sulking and trawling the internet for different holidays i came across the WBTA!

We have never been on any kind of cruise before so this is all completely new to us, so we thought what better way to start than the Disney way!!

We are not going with kids but are just big versions of kids ourselves" - from Kent, UK

jsassy - "Hello everyone. ... I am Jerry and my wife is Jan and we were on the April 2010 back to back EBT and Mediterranean. If anyone else was on there you may remember we brought our own Preacher. They can't make it this year though." - from Hawkinsville, GA

KrisannB - "Ok it is official! We are booked! I am so excited - this means we did both the WBTA and EBTA last year AND this year!!! Looking forward to seeing some of my past DIS friends and also meeting new people!

We are still GTY for a 5c but that is ok - I know we will have a room at some point! We are on early dining and requesting our favorite server - we have had him for 62 nights so far on the Magic (this will add another 14) I am so excited!

It will be me (Krisann), DH (Ashley), DD-16 and DS - 14" - from Tennessee

Happy Birthday

Sign Up for Activities

Okay, folks, I hate to be difficult about this, but

You MUST have sent me a PM with your information (as described on Page 1 and in Noel's Welcome Wagon message) in order to be included in the FE!!!!

I have received several messages and requests from people who believe they signed up because they mentioned it in the thread or on Facebook, but those posts are too easy to miss, which is why I have asked everyone who wishes to participate to PLEASE send me a PM (or a Visitor message if you have fewer than 10 posts).

Thank you for your understanding about this.

FE Groups are Ready

PFlamingo - Finally. I've checked and rechecked and I think I've got it right. If you are participating in the FE, please click on the link below to request an invitation to join the group. You will need to create a Google account first, if you don't already have one. I'll confirm your request, and "share" the FE lists document with you (once I figure out how to do that). There is a question you will need to answer (it's an easy one) to help confirm that you are who you claim to be.

WBTA FE 2011

Once you have access to the document PLEASE READ the page at the beginning of the document. It has some info you need to know. - Pat

Candy swappers, attention!!!!

goofieslonglostsis - "I'm still getting PM's off people signing up, great! This slowly does bring up the question about groupsize. That's why I want to know the opinion of participants about max. group size. Which numbers are you still comfortable participating in? At the moment we've got 14 staterooms signed up for a total of 37 participants in varying ages. If there are enough participants that want to keep the groups smallish, I can devide up into 2 groups, add a 3rd if needed etc. Like with the FE you can then decide if you wish to participate in one or more groups. As usual; signing up only counts after sending me a PM to do so and receiving a confirmation reply from me." - Jacqueline

PIN ORDER CUT-OFF IS JUNE 30

birkner - "I have added Pin Payment info the the fist page post on Lanyard Pins. Details are below or you can click on the link.

Here is how to pay.

Please mark the payment as a gift to me on PayPal at birkner@needinfo.com so the only fees you may have to pay is convert to Euros if this is not your principal currency.

Be sure you put your DIS name in the notes so I know where the payment came from and can properly credit you.

If you have any other questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to PM me. - Noel

Kids Thread
melonz - My son Ethan 10 , has made a post in kids thread He'd really like to "meet" some kids before we go. So if your kids like hotdogs and burgers, Ethan is the one to talk to.

BTW Ethan is posting under my name as it's a pain in the neck to register him as he's under 13. I WILL check his posts though."

Transport from Port Canaveral to DTD

"I checked to see how much it would cost to rent a car from the Port to the Airport (with a detour to Downtown Disney or Harry Potter) and it was about $80. Then I checked a rental directly from the airport and it was about $20."

Check-in Airline Luggage Onboard

"Appreciate the information, but I was more asking about the option DCL has for checking your luggage with Delta straight to airport. I know that normally you would pick it up on the pier after disembarking--go through customs etc--but I have never had the option to pre-check luggage on ship before getting to airport--which according to what I am reading on DCL you have that option. My question was more--has anyone done that? What is the process? Do you do it AFTER you claim the luggage in the port/customs etc, or does it go from the ship to the airport (meaning you leave it outside and do not see it until you land in your destination)? "

Electrical converters

Disney Magic is US voltage/plugs - check your pre-cruise hotel to see if you need a converter/adapter - especially those with CPAP machines

Is anyone else stopping at the same hotel as us? Well I do know of another family actually, but it would be great to have a few more. They do a 10% discount on the cruise rate. Close to Las Ramblas and Placa Catalunya and it has a pool!!! We stayed fairly close to this area last year and it is a great spot.

Hypnotist

"Interesting story - The hypnotist that was on our cruise last summer lives near us in a neighboring subdivision. My daughter attended the overnight Lock-In held after her high school Graduation and commented on the Hynotist that performed that night. As she was telling some of the things he had done, my husband made a comment about that sounding a lot like what had happened with the Hypnotist on the cruise. So, we looked him up, and it was the same guy!

He's very good and puts on a very entertaining show. He had people believing they had "lost" their belly buttons, and that they were watching a (porn) flick that they later realized starred their parents."

In a related story, her husband "wasn't" hynotised:
Here's one photo of my hubby, aka Barry White, in Rockin' Bar D!
He is virtually un-embarrassable!!! :lmao::lmao:

Alcohol Sales at Barcelona Port Terminal

Fontabel - Having just come from Barcelona, I can say that Terminal A where our ship was docked had a nice set of stores inside the terminal, including a duty free liquor store and a small store of sundries and I think snacks and non-alcoholic drinks. There was also a store of drug-store like items.

Unfortunately because NCL charged a whopping $15 per bottle brought on board, we did not use the shops. I cannot say if they are in all 3 of the Barcelona terminals (but I would think so)." - Amanda

We had friends go out of Barcelona on the Magic last year and they stocked up at the terminal.

EXCURSIONS

ATTENTION SCUBA DIVERS

If you are interested in DIVING in Tortola. Please PM me.

DCL no longer offers the diving excursion on Tortola. I have contacted a dive shop directly and they are willing to work with us. I need to know if any one else is interested. We have 4 people so far and need at least two more.

The quote I have is for a two tank two site boat dive, it is $115.00pp with 10.00pp gear rental. However, if you are only interested in a one tank dive let me know and I can go back and let them know our interest and get a quote for that. A one tank dive would most likely be a beach dive. We would have a local guide with either option. You must be a certified diver to do this excursion.

Please PM me and let me know if you are interested in a 1 or 2 tank dive, how many are in your party or with any questions. - Nickole - nick262

Tortola/JVD Catamaran

MandyGirl - I received a reply from the charter company for our DIS excursion, and he said it is just a few feet from the beach and swimming not required - suitable for non-swimmers and infants. I have his reply quoted below with some embedded pics from the website. If you need to cancel or utilize a dinghy to go to shore, please PM me ASAP as I need to keep a separate list due to capacity purposes. Thanks!

Updated on front page:

There is a dock to board the catamaran in Tortola, but...
NOTE: There is NO DOCK at White Bay Beach... you use the steps/ladder at the back of the catamaran to go ashore via water... hence the name SOGGY DOLLAR BAR. For pics, please see the linked websites mentioned above or this pic to see the short distance from boat to beach. Here is a picture of the ladder to go back into catamaran since no dock.

From my contact at Tortola Charters:

"We have non-swimmers and guests with somewhat limited mobility on this
trip all of the time and it is never a problem". Because this excursion will have two boats, one will have a dinghy IF needed. If you have mobility concerns going up/down the ladder, please PM me to put your party on the catamaran that "has a power dinghy that can take them right to the shoreline if they prefer that instead of swimming in the few yards."

Please note in their description of this excursion on their website, "(This tour is suitable for all ages including infants and non-swimmers – snorkeling is done from the beach and is optional)" which is different from the description of the Virgin Gorda Baths excursion (more strenuous).

Please PM me if you need to be on the catamaran with a dinghy due to this. We have specific numbers of capacity on each catamaran, so it is limited and I have to keep a list of who is on it. First come, first listed. (And honestly, coming from someone who got into a dinghy in a wedding dress after my beach wedding on St John... I would say it is easier to wade in the water and climb the ladder if you can. A dinghy is not the most stable stepping in/out of)

A few people have recently asked for advice on excursions in gibraltar.

Myself and Helen have visited quite a bit in the past 5 years (even getting married there) and this is what I have found.

We have looked to do the dolphin excursion but when speaking with a booking agent on 2 occasions we have been advised that the chances of seeing dolphins on that day. Was not too good, it may be just our bad luck, but did not fancy paying for just a basic boat trip. One other point is that they charge for infants regardless of age, Grace was only 12 months at the time and from experience this is the only company I have found charging for children so young.

In regards to the different options at the top of the rock there is obviously the cable car which charges £7.50 for a single journey and £9 for a return journey (it is a long walk back down, not sure why anyone would buy a single!!) this only entitles you to see the monkey enclosure and nothing else.

Other attractions at the top are St Michaels cave, the Great siege tunnels and the moorish castle which in my opinion are well worth doing. The cost of this with the cable car company is £19 for adults and £12 for children. This option involves quite a walk between the sites of around 3 miles for the round trip and it can be quite tiring as it is very hilly.

An alternative option is a minibus tour, there are numerous drivers touting for business at the border with gib/Spain, on the main street and also at the base of Europa point as you go up towards the cable cars (trying to take business from the cable cars). From memory the trip includes entry to the top of the rock and all the attractions mentioned above and costs around £15. The benefit with this is that you are taken to all the sites and there is minimal walking, the tour takes about 3 hours but if a group of 8 book the whole bus I'm sure the driver will negotiate. I'm sure there will be drivers on the dock trying to overcharge so it may be better to book at one of the other sites.

We did the trip in our own car and for entry for 2 adults and a car it came to about £20 for entry to all the attractions (£10 for the car and £5 per adult) So the minibus tour is quite reasonable.

A helpful website is http://www.gibraltarinfo.gi/gibraltar-tickets.aspx which is for the cable car company but gives a good description of the different attractions

Hope this is of help.

If you have any queries please feel free to PM me

Paul

KrisannB - "my few cents in here too - we did the Disney excursion on the 2010 EBTA and it was nice, we saw lots of dolphins BUT this year on teh EBTA some of the Diser's went and they saw NOTHING - BUT before dinner that night on Deck 4 we were all out on watching as we were sailing from Gilbraltor - we first saw 3 whales and then about 10 minutes later so many dolphins! I have pictures my husband took of them - it was awesome - we stayed there watching them for over an hour!"

After reading Paul's excellent post about Gibraltar, I would be very interested in sharing a minibus tour. Have I missed anywhere where someone is trying to organize one of these? I have a funky knee that sometimes lets me walk for miles, and sometimes makes it a pain to walk at all--getting old sucks.

Kevin & I would be happy to share a bus, and if anyone knows the best site to arrange for one beforehand, please let me know.

Thanks,
Karen (6 of 6--I didn't want to claim any particular number, but I think I'm the sixth one to join the bunch)

http://www.stmaartencruiseexcursions.com/

finally,

ON the EBTA when we were in Barcelona, we found ourselves in the middle of a shoot out between police and protesters... gun shots going off all around us... over 100 people hurt. NO I did not feel safe and cancelled my hotel reservations to stay there for a few days.... I wanted out of there asap. I hope the protest are calming down there but heard they are still protesting.

Looking For

I would love to do the WB TA, but my sailing partner has backed out. I doubt I can pull this one off if I couldn't split the cabin. I'm looking for someone who might be interested in having a roommate. I'm an easy going guy, work with kids during my day job, don't smoke, occasional drinker but not a guzzler. If you are interested, send me a PM.

We did a precruise meet on the 2010 WBTA at Tapas Tapas with about 12 Disers, and had a great time. So if anyone is up for a meet let me know, and I will try a put something together.

What Are They Wearing?

For those new to DCL cruising and don't like to be left out of the loop, here are some thoughts about Special Clothing:

Formal x 2 nights - Finally, a chance to wear your tiara and gloves!

Semi-formal night - think cocktail dress

Villains night - wear purple and black (DIS tradition, not DCL)

Pirate night - well, they do own the POC franchise and rights to the POC name since they built the ride at DL

Mickey Mouse Club night - wear your Mouse ears, t-shirts can be ordered from Zazzle (this is a DIS event)

PJ Breakfast - (DIS event)

Pub Crawl - shirts available for order

Champagne Girls - PINK + boa + tiara

We'll be wearing lanyards (free - don't forget to order yours from Birkner) - you'll even have a personalized name tag. It really is fun when the crew knows who you are - and you are wondering "how?" until you look down and it hits you.

There will be DISers with personalized t-shirts on - utilizing many of the designs found on this forum. You can also design your own. Also, a great chance to wear all your Disney attire without having your co-workers (and non-Disney family members) roll their eyes.

Violence in Barcelona

My daughter and son-in-law were on the EBTA and I got a first hand report about the situation in Barcelona at the end of May. There had been a large group of economic/political protestors peacefully occupying the Placa Catalunya for a few weeks at the end of May. It so happened that the Barcelona football team (soccer for those of us west of the pond) was playing for the UEFA championship on May 29th (+/- a day) and traditionally the FCB football fanatics would gather and celebrate (or commiserate -- depending on the outcome) their championship on the Placa Catalunya. Apparently the Barcelona authorities, fearing these two groups would clash and violence/chaos might ensue, decided to Move the protest group out of the Placa Catalunya the day before the football game (Saturday, May 28th), which was the day the Magic arrived in port. This attempt to remove the protest group resulted in some violence and chaos.

My feeling is that while there is some reason for caution, I am not overly concerned about our visit to Barcelona. Of course, as they say on the internet, your mileage may vary.

Regards, Jerry

Churros

Here are links to a few pages that mention where "the best" churros y chocolate places are in Barcelona:

http://www.barcelona-tourist-guide.com/en/events/christmas/barcelona-chocolate-restaurant.html

http://barcelonafoodgirl.blogspot.com/2008/11/churros-and-chocolate-in-barcelona.html

http://www.deliciousbaby.com/travel/spain/barcelona/listing/granja-xocolateria-la-palleresa/

We had churros and chocolate in Madrid when we were there in May. It is a very thick sort of pudding chocolate that you could drink, but is better with a spoon.

The place to get it is at a Chocolateria. So if you see one of those, pop in for some churros con chocolate.

Info on SCUBA DIVNG IN TORTOLA

TxMermaid1 - For those of you wanting to go diving in my group here is the info I received from the dive shop. I have been diving with this dive shop before and was very please with their services. They are located just a couple blocks from the pier. We would walk to the shop and fill out our paperwork, get our equipment and leave from there. I have asked to dive on the wreck of the Rhone. This is a nice and easy dive with lots of fish. I enjoyed this dive. The weather will depend on where we dive. As you know this is Hurricane season so we must watch this closely. Also remember I am a PADI master scuba diver instructor and will take good care of you. I will also be needing a buddy so if you would like to buddy with me just let me know. Here is the info as I received it.

We can take a maximum of 8 divers and the cost per diver is $100 for a 2-tank dive for all certified divers. Or if the group would rather do a 1 tank dive it will be $80. The price includes dive equipment, snacks, drinks and towels onboard our dive boat.

Your ship arrives fairly early so we would be able to leave the dock by 9 a.m. and as we calculate a 5 hour turnaround you’d be back by about 2 p.m. You should be able to get to our dive shop at 8.15a.m. to complete some paperwork and be fitted with wetsuits and mask and fins where needed. Please provide us with a list of BCD sizes and names beforehand to help us get the boat set up first thing in the morning. That would be great.

You will be arriving in the middle of the hurricane season so it’s impossible to guarantee a dive site or even the possibility of diving. I believe, if there is even just a slight chance of a storm your ship will change course. However If the conditions allow it we’d be more than happy to take you and your friends to the Rhone.  To make a guaranteed reservation we normally require a 50% deposit, however, as it’s going to be in the middle of the hurricane season we would fully refund this deposit if there is a threat of a storm announced one week prior to your booking. By then your cruise ship will more likely than not have decided to change course.

I have attached a credit card form for the deposit if you wish to go ahead with a confirmed booking. Please let me know if you have any further questions or if there is anything else I can help you with.

I really hope the weather will allow us again this year to take you diving!

PLEASE PM ME IF YOU ARE INTERESTED.... Jill

Pub Crawl & t-shirts

"Cliffy 97 (Dan and Bruce) are organizing a typical English pub crawl with a date TBD. Info so far is as follows:

On a sea day those who were interested would meet in one of the bars for ( Traditionally a half pint pounded, I would suggest a drink of your choice) and then visit (Crawl) every other bar on the ship at least once.

As we do not have to worry about anything closing or how we are getting home, I would I would imagine we can spend 20-30 min at each location versus the 5-10 min you have on the monopoly pub crawl in London."

"If you are interested in participating in the DIS Pub Crawl and would like to order a t-shirt commemorating this (burp) momentous occasion, please visit the following site by Friday, July 22:

Pub Crawl Shirt Order Form

The final design of the shirt can be seen on that site.

Simply enter the size(s) and quantity you would like. I will gather all individual orders into one large order and coordinate from there. PLEASE include your DISBoards user name in the comments section so I can follow up with you directly on shipping and payment!

When the order closes, I will follow up with you individually to secure payment via PayPal and get your shipping address.

The estimated cost is approximately $15 each (that's if we have an order for 20). A quantity higher than that would bring down the cost even more.

Please PM me with questions. Thanks!

Dolphin Tour in Gibraltar

"I am afraid I am having great difficulty with communication with this company. I have been sending them emails daily stating that I need to know what they are doing about the time, whether we can go back to the 10:15 time slot as originally arranged and basically just wanting to know what is going on. Apart from one email about 2 weeks ago which said they were trying to accomodate us on the 10:15 trip, but they had been approached by a cruise ship which was why they wanted us to move in the first place. They said they would get back to me the following day and I have heard absolutely nothing, despite me sending almost daily emails and it is becoming a bit stressful to be honest.

It appears to me that they have had a better offer from a cruise ship and they are not really interested in honouring our original agreement." - TotallyAngelic - Sarah

Don't Forget a Whiteboard for Messages

whiteboard2.jpg

Pixie Dust for Me! - I found Disney character whiteboards today at Target at the $1 spot! I bought several with the intention of using them as FE items but now with everyone searching for them I'm wondering if I should just offer them up here instead? They're all either Toy Story or Cars themed! - Keri

Day Bag for Embarkation

"Another question for previous cruisers.....I was reading through some old posts and some people dont get their luggage delivered to their cabins until after dinner in the evening, so my question is, Is this normal procedure?

If so is it better to put things for the afternoon/evening in a carry on bag so that you have things with you when boarding?
having never cruised before this is all completely new to us so want to make sure we know whats what before hand!!!

Also for people who have stayed in inside cabins before, are there any tips for helping with the complete lack of natural light in the room?? Or is it something you get used to after a little while?"

Pack It in a Day Bay to Carry Onboard if

  • It's Valuable (money, jewelry, medication)
  • It's a Large Amount of Liquid (like bottles of drinks - more than 3 oz)
  • You might need it before / for dinner (swimsuits, dinner outfit)

Alcohol Prices at Barcelona Port Terminal

Tod&Copper - "Hi all who queried the prices, DH confirmed that it was approx €9 for a litre bottle of vodka, €7 for a bottle of cava and the wine prices started from €6 upwards. There was a good selection of wines and spirits."

Tip #1 for Surviving an Inside Cabin

"Turn your tv onto the channel that shows the live camera at the front of the ship, and simply turn the sound off. When the sun comes up, it gradually lights up the screen, just like a window. Free, and works like a charm!"

"Sorry, but just a heads up that this NO longer appears to be an option...

I was on the Magic for 25 days this yr (ebta & med) and now they have changed to a fireworks type display after dark.

We tried to sleep with it but the constant fluctuating bright lights were impossible...add to that the fact that they didn't switch to the bridge cam quickly enough........impossible!!"

More Discussion About Barcelona Transfers

- "We arrive in Barcelona a few days before departure and will be staying at one of the recommended Disney hotels in Barcelona - but not booked through Disney. My question is: Can we get Disney transportation from the airport to the hotel and from the hotel to the cruise in Barcelona? And if so, does anyone know how much that would cost?"

- "Peggy, why don't you guys just take a cab? They line up at the airport & your hotel can call one for you on the morning of the cruise. That way you won't be arriving w/ a bus load of people to check in.

If you're nervous about the cab at the airport, just write down your hotel name & address and the directions in spanish (usually found on the hotel's website) and then you just give it to the driver."

- "Thanks Liz! We were just wondering about the Disney transportation, since we will be staying at a Disney recommended hotel. Last year we took taxis with no problem at all...just wanted to explore the Disney option. (Plus, we're going to be carrying a LOT more stuff along to the cruise ship - both clothes & booze!) Another thought...would the Disney transportation to the cruise ship also include them delivering ALL of our stuff directly to the room, where we wouldn't have to lug it to the ship? Just wondering..."

- "I know that they have offered this in the past. We did their transfers in London last year at one of their designated hotels. The cost will be different because they were taking us all the way to Dover, so you'll have to check with them on that, but the benefits were many, actually.

Yes, they took the bags away and we did not see them until they appeared in out stateroom. But even more helpful was the fact that they checked us in for the cruise - KTTW cards & all! There is always a desk or area designated for DCL to take your bags, do check in, answer questions...

So you just check the bags & keep the carry-ons with liquids for them to put underneath the bus temporarily for you.

It's not always offered to those who aren't staying at the hotel, from what i understand (maybe a numbers thing), but I would give them a call to find out the specifics."

- "I was told by my TA (and confirmed by DCL) that if you do not book the hotel through DCL, you can not take DCL transportation between the airport and the hotel in Barcelona." - Chris

birkner - "You must go by weight. I can ship a 50lb suitcase w/o insurance through Luggage Forwarders for $281. 25lbs would have been $168. I ONLY shipped used clothing as I was worried FE gifts might not make it through customs."

"This year it is $168 for 25lbs and $281 for 50lbs. Just checked."

Medications

If you have any medications that might be controlled substances in the countries you are visiting, please make sure you have proper prescription information (including original bottle, quantity of medication appropriate for length of visit, MD statement of medication need if controversial...). What's legal in your home country may not be so in others.

UPDATE - UNFORTUNATELY I HAVE BEEN UNSUCCESSFUL AT BOOKING THE LADIES HIGH TEA.

"I am very sorry to disappoint everyone but it has been impossible to book, even trying to book it through a concierge guest has not worked."

IN THAT CASE...

"We could try to get together in the coffee bar (it's called the Cove on the Wonder, not sure on the Magic) one afternoon, and just do our own thing with beverages and pastries, as someone suggested."

"That's a great idea why don't we pick a sea day and arrange to turn up at, say, 2.30 for an impromptu Cove Cafe DIS Afternoon Tea, I know it's not Palo high tea but, it'll be a great opportunity for a relaxed meet."

Photo Service

"I know Diser's will know this Does Disney have a Photo Pass type of service onboard the ship or is it completely different."

"The Photo CD was $399. on the EBTA as well as the Panama Canal cruise. So I am sure it will be the same on the WBTA. There is no limit on how many photos go on your CD as long as it is for just 1 cabin. So.... if you plan to buy the CD and if you have kids and can afford it... you should, so take as many pictures as you can."

Gibraltar Taxi Tour

GatorMomInNC - "I have signed up for the Rock Tour Excursion through DCL. However, I also looked into hiring Paul Del Mar based on some recommendations of you fellow DIS'ers. I just heard back from him and here is what he wrote:

Thank you for your email, Iv'e attached for your information our Official Taxi Tour Brochure.

My mini-bus carries 8 people. What I would ask is, if possible, if there are others that would like to do the tour I would appreciate if you would invite them to join us on the tour. Due to the high volume of passengers on the day I would like to fill the mini-bus to full capacity ( if you wish to just go on your own I understand and would still undertake the tour)

The price for the tour's are as follows: (Minimum of 4 persons)

£22.00 sterling or Euros 25.00 (standard tour) entrance tickets included. Lasting approx 1hr 30mins

£30.00 sterling or Euros 33.00 (extended tour) entrance tickets included. Lasting approx 2hrs

So first question: Does anyone know the difference between hiring him and going on the DCL excursion? He is SLIGHTLY more expensive since DCL gives us a break on the kids, but I am hoping that if we have our own minibus we can get a more personalized tour. Specifically, I am trying to limit my mom's walking so I would like to be brought as close as possible to the sights.

Second questions: Would anyone like to join us and fill up the van?"

"From what I remember we went first drove over across the airport runway, which is so strange to do so have your cameras ready, and had a look at the border crossing to Spain.

We drove through town and went to Europa Point. We also stopped at a huge Gun and mini museum about said gun.

We went right up to the top where the buses don't go and there are fantastic views all the way down to the ship. Great photos.

Now I begin to get muddled!! We went to where the apes are, though you see them all over, and you can get out and have photos taken with them. Siege tunnels and the war tunnels. Again, apes a plenty. I also think there is another spot where you can photo the apes. He leaves you to go into the 2 tunnels on your own, but there is lots of information there for you to read.

All the time Paul is talking about the history and adding lots of interesting bits and pieces. He is a bit of a history buff. He grew up in Gibraltar. Plenty of time for lots of great photos as long as the cloud isn't down. He did suggest a lunchtime set off to us because there is more chance of a clear view and also it isn't as busy."

For Dutch Readers

Con5421 - "I have been on the TA 2010, after that i did the Mexicaanse Rivera whit Disney. If you like you can look on our blog for the picture, the site is in dutch but you can translate it if you like.

I now some people on this forum that's why i post this and for the dutch people on this forum.

I also will make a blog for our next cruise this will be on RCCL. - Connie

Can't believe all the good info swirling about on this forum! DH and I have a nighttime ritual of trying to catch up--I say trying because it's impossible, lol!

For you foodies, here is what we are doing on the 9th in Barca: http://www.cookandtaste.net/

I have been on this ship 2x before yet never entered Palo--what is your fave for brunch and/or dinner? We have ressies for both; sadly no tea.

I love brunch-all the seafood and the scones at tea are to die for. I was fortunate to get my ressies for both.

"I looked at the same cooking option for the 9th-the cooking school looks like fun. So far I am signed up for a semi private 8 hour tour with Barcelona Day Tours for Montserrat and Cava. It is 79 Euros and can accomodate 5-12 people. They will let me know when they have the minimum signed up so if anyone is interested check them out at BarcelonaDaytours.com. We are doing a 1/2 day tour with them on the 8th of Barcelona to see the high points. If they can't get enough people to do the Montserrat and Cava tour I would enjoy the cooking class-my husband not so much although he likes the eating part.

Is anyone doing or have you done a flamenco show at the Spanish Village? I don't know how much I can cram into 2 days in Barcelona. Thank goodness the first sailing day is a sea day so I can rest."

Onboard Internet

"I don't mind taking 14+ days, but my boss isn't such a fan! Appeased him by promising to bring the laptop and check in every day. It's not that I'm indespensible, but he's a worrier."

"Good luck on that! You will find there really isn't any internet while we are crossing the atlantic. When you do get a connection, closer to land, it is so slow you usually give up after about 15 min of waiting to bring up a website. We bought the 500 Min. package for $150 and had to get a refund because we just could not get online. We were not the only ones. Please do not depend on getting online, even DCL's computers are bad, actually worse. You may want to tell your boss if he does not hear from you it is not because you are having way too much fun to contact him, but that you tried and it was impossible...... Sorry to be the bearer of bad internet news...."

WiFi in Madeira

I know there's free WiFi in Madeira in the shopping center; I used it last year. The woman beside me was on Skype on her brand-new iPad. I was on an iPod touch.

Cell Phones

I have AT&T, so last year when I did a EBTA, I added International Roaming Voice for $5.99 and then it was 99 cents a minute. But that roaming application only applies while you are in port so you can connect with a tower there, not in open water. It cost much more if you could get a signal. I cancelled the Intl. Roaming when I got home.

I did use my phone, but made quick calls. So check your options with your provider.

Scrapbooking Supplies

poohluv2u... Just a thought ... although it won't help you much before the cruise. I have bought scrapbooking supplies from http://www.scrapyourtrip.com/disney.html before and they have lots of cool stuff for Disney and cruising. They are located in Florida and are super helpful, I'm sure they could arrange for stuff to be sent to your hotel. That way you could avoid expensive shipping fees and custom taxes."

Booking Excursions

"And another question... we can book excursions, but if we are not 100% sure yet, we can cancel up to 3 days prior to embarkation, correct? And these are charged to our onboard account, right? (That's what I'm thinking... want to verify though!)"

"This is what DCL answered me when I mailed them with the same question.

All pre-reserved services can be booked or cancelled up to 3 days prior to saildate via our website. After that time, all reservations are final and the cost of the pre-reserved port adventures will be charged to your shipboard account onboard."

yogitxtx - "Hi! I'm Sandy and I will be sailing the WBTA. No cabin number yet. Sailed last year with my husband, but he has to work this year, so I'm sailing solo. We are sailing the Dream 9/4-8. I'll stay 1 night at WDW--then fly to Barcelona on 9th. Guess you could call it back to back!!!!"

giraffe104 - "Hello everybody! I haven't been on the board lately, I've been super busy with work and graduating university. After much deliberation and excellent deal with disney/priceline, i decided to bite the best feeling bullet ever. I'm officially a proud owner of a WBTA interior room, yet to be assigned! THINKING OF YOU

goofieslonglostsis - This coming Wednesday/Thursday at the hospital for a procedure.

magic123 - My DD suffered a fall on her trek for the Duke of Edinburgh award. Thankfully no broken bones. She’s now back at base camp while her friends continue. I feel for her, although this was a practice for the real trek next year. She can no longer receive the full award without having completed it, after eight months of preparation it’s upsetting for her.

I'm really missing her now, because she sounded so upset about it and she won't be home until tuesday, but at 17 she's still my baby and as a mum I still want to protect her from life's down's" - Margaret

All who have been ill

Carrying wine onboard - Yes, We Can

"Disney does not care how much liquor you bring on board. We had a suitcase packed with nothing but liquor and it weighed 50lbs You would think we were alcoholics...lol Many of the EBTAers brought lots of liquor and we meet at Promenade lounge every night around 10:30 and shared drinks and socialized til around 1 or 2 AM! We would take our glass of wine to dinner and there was no problems with that. However as mentioned before, if you take the bottle to dinner, you will be charged a $18 uncorking fee..."

ONBOARD CHARGES

Onboard expenses: drinks, excursions, tips, spa, photos, shopping
Tips: recommended by DCL: $12 per cruiser per day ($168)
Disney VISA 0% interest for 6 months on deposits to your stateroom account made at least 3 days before cruise embarkation (>$101)

VALUE ADDED TAX (VAT) - worse than most states' sales tax

"Last year on the TA, they charged VAT on everything until we past Gibraltar. I know because I was sending out something to be drycleaned (yes, they charge that too) when the steward told me to hold off a day or two if I could. It wasn't much just like $0.50 but it can add up. I thought it was kinda weird but it did stop once we past it. I have always filled out the VAT charges and dropped them off at the airport or the last time mailed it in but never got anything back so its a bit frustrating to me. The only one I wanted back was my DD's prom dress VAT I bought from Paris but never saw hide nor hair of it. But that's ok, it was worth it. Anyway, make sure you consider this when your onboard. ..."

Reconsidering the "price of the vacation"

"When it comes to packing for a holiday, women aren't exactly renowned for travelling light and the average woman spends £200 more on the clothes for her holiday than on the trip itself.

According to a survey women pay about £500 for their summer vacation, and then splash out just under £700 on the latest bikini, sarong and maxi dress to complete their holiday wardrobe.

The poll, on behalf of fashion event Clothes Show London, also found that women spend a further £170 on beauty products and treatments to ensure they have that sunkissed, glamorous look before they've stepped anywhere near the beach.

In addition, they will spend 15 hours giving themselves a full holiday makeover, including applying fake tan, waxing their legs and polishing their toenails.

When the cost of clothes and beauty treatments are combined, women spend an average £855 getting ready for their holiday - £350 more than the trip itself.

According to fashion industry experts, women are so pleased to have picked up a bargain trip from the travel agents they feel they can splash out on their summer holiday wardrobe.

Four out of five women surveyed said that when the price of their holiday is less than they expected, the amount they spend on their wardrobe increases.
Experts also say there is increasing pressure for women to look good on the beach and be seen wearing the latest trends and accessories.

Maryam Hamizadeh, marketing manager of Clothes Show London, which takes place in Earl's Court this weekend, said: 'The fact that women are willing to spend more on their wardrobe than on their summer holiday shows that even the bargain break isn't quite as cheap as first thought.'

'It's clear from our survey results that looking good while on holiday is just as, if not more, important to women as actually getting away.'

She added: 'Women simply love getting dressed up for an occasion and a week's holiday provides a number of opportunities to dress to impress.'
According to the survey, women shell out about £350 on dresses, £160 on flip-flops and sandals, £125 on bikinis and £50 on accessories such as sunglasses and jewellery.

In the days leading up to their holiday they will spend an average of six hours applying fake tan, one and a half hours on waxing, four hours flicking through magazines to ensure they are up to date with the latest trends, and three and a half hours applying nail varnish and shaping their eyebrows.
Unsurprisingly, men are far less concerned with attaining the perfect 'summer look'. A survey in 2007 found they spend just £100 getting ready for a holiday: £20 on a haircut, £30 on shorts and the remainder on sunglasses and flip-flops.

Promenade Lounge 3pm Before Lifeboat Drill

birkner - "I was planning on being in the Promenade Lounge about 3:00PM to distribute pins and lanyards. Anyone not planning to be there during that time should ensure I have their cabin number so I can get them their items."

"Also someone wondered about an evening gathering which also would be a great idea for those who would like a wee drinkie along with others to aid getting to know each other even more Now I wouldn't be at this one, but do you think it is a good idea?"

CHILLING THAT BAD KNEE

"I was checking to see if there were fridge's in the room. It only says "cooling Box" Am I to assume that there is no freezer compartment in them. I have a very bad knee and Ice packs help a lot. I was hoping anyway."

As far as I remember there is no freezer and the refrigerator doesn't really get very cold.

"Is there perhaps something you can bring that can be filled w/ cold water & ice or just ice? You can get ice daily in your stateroom from your cabin steward. Maybe there's a water bottle type of ice pack you could get that is filled w/ ice?"

"We have taken ziplock bags and filled them with ice from the soda machines on deck 9 but getting one of these type of things as Beauty & the Best suggested is a great idea"

icepack.jpg

"You can get Ice twice a day delivered from your room host = plus snag all you want from the ice machine on Deck 9. I keep a gallon bag of ice in the bottom of my cool box at all times, on a small towel to catch the drips. That cold towel feels good on the achey spots, too."

Follow-Up on Claire's Burglary Incident

"Not a great week for news as we got a letter on Thursday from the courts about our burglary incident in April and the scumbag basically got let off with an 8pm curfew for 12 weeks. On top of that because he has no means (aka unemployed druggie) he doesn't even have to pay us the £300 ($450) cost of repairs to the door he busted open."

CREDIT CARD CHIP & PIN

"Americans - have you seen the article that our credit cards won't work in Europe because they don't have a chip like the European ones do? What's your strategy for dealing with that?"

"I have traveled all over Europe and never have a problem. I do call my Bank and let them know which countries I will be using it in so that it does not look as if it's stolen. I heard about the "chip" thing a few years ago, but I have never had any trouble."

"Since we are Americans living in Europe and only have American credit cards, I can hope to give some advice:

1. We have been traveling all over Western Europe, our most recent trip was earlier this month, to Barcelona, in fact, and we had not problems using our credit cards as long as we alerted them to where we were traveling.

2. Debit cards. This is different from a credit card. I know in the U.S. you can sometimes choose credit on a debit card at stores. That option can sometimes not work in Europe. However, you should be able to use your debit card in most ATMs. In Barcelona, we had no problems using our debit cards to get cash (again alert your banks that you are traveling.) You just need to match the symbols on the back of your ATM with the ones on the machine. I have never had problems with my Bank of America card, but occasionally have issues with the ING (finding an ATM it is compatible with), so I usually use the BOA card first.

3. We normally use lots of cash in Europe, which I know some people are not comfortable using or carrying, but in most major European cities, you can use all major cards. I would suggest a Capital One card as they have no currency conversion fees."

"When I would start to hand cashiers my card, they would point at the cc machine that allowed for the chip and pin. I would say "American," and gesture the downward swiping motion. Worked every time."

"However, some self-service machines required a pin, so I would have to go to a cashier - like when buying train tickets in France or Italy."

"Thing with the chip is that some stores don't just swipe the CC and ask for your signature, like you'll be used to as the standard in the US. At some you will actually use yout CC like you'ld use your ATM card and need a PINcode for that. This is also where the chip comes into play, sometimes the strip is used for that, sometimes the chip. Now I will say that is the absolute exception. I use my CC a lot on vacation and have never once needed to use my PINcode on it."

"Yesterday, I called Chase about the credit card. They sent me over to special services who said yes, they had had some reports of cards not being accepted at certain places (including some automatic ticket machines) in Europe."

"We went to the UK and France in 2009 (and I was in the UK, France and the Netherlands in 2006) and never had a problem using a credit card EXCEPT for what you mentioned - purchasing RER tickets at an automated machine in Paris."

"Apparently attempting to use credit cards at train stations sends up a red flag and gets your card frozen. I tried to buy RENFE (Spanish train) tickets online from my home computer last year and got 3 different cards frozen. And Chase has an industry reputation for locking out cards faster than any other company."

"Another option for any US based person is to get a prepaid Chip and PIN card from TravelEx.

They call it the Cash Passport and will issue it in most/all TravelEx locations as well as online. Obviously they charge fees for some transactions, but it looks pretty reasonable on their website.

Also its re-loadable. Check out their website for more details.
"

We use the TravelEx option. Whatever you don't use they will buy back. Great for purchases but don't use for hotel or car rental. Here is there link: TravelEx

Important - Renaissance Hotel Shuttle share

Hope I got everyones attention :)

We have decided to book the shuttle with http://www.barcelona-airport-transfers.com/
This company come highly recommended on the boards.

Every email I have sent them they have gotten back to me promptly.

I need to get this booked asap.

If you definitely want to share the shuttle then please contact me via PM or leave a visitor message on my profile page.

I need to know how many in your party and how many suitcases & hand luggage you are going to have with you. Their mini buses hold 12-16 passengers.
This is from the website:-
*Normal luggage includes one big piece per person. Any extra luggage should be detailed.*

Payment for the shuttle needs to be made at time of booking so I would request people send payment via PayPal (gift option) so that I don't incur any extra charges.

Once we have all the people who are definite then I can book and work out how much it will be per person.
Cut off date to add your name to the shuttle share list would be 17th July 2011. This should give a bit time for people to see this post. Also posting this on the WBTA FB page.

Look forward to hearing from you soon.

Shark dive in St Maarten's?

5901851234_6f40048321_s.jpg

Anyone interested in doing a shark dive in St Maarten's? We have a choice. We can do a 1 tank shark dive ($84) in the afternoon. Or a 2 tank morning dive, (no shark dive), ($90) or possibly a 1 tank dive and a shark dive. Let me know who is interested and what you would prefer. If I have enough people interested in the 1 tank shark dive then that is what we will do. otherwise it will be regular dives.
All dives include gear and transportation to and from the dive shop. Price includes gear if you need it.

Please PM me if you have questions or are interested... Once we decide which way to go I will post all the details.

Thanks and happy bubbles....

Upgrade Talk Has Begun...

"On the ebta in May, there were lots & lots of empty rooms (many verandas), but due to construction in bathrooms (chiseling out the tile to get to pipes, replacing pipes & drains, etc.), there were just a few upgrades in the last month, that we were aware of, and NO upgrades at the port whatsoever. Then there was a lot of complaining at GS due to the noise & stuff, and a few people were moved around a bit then...some of them half way through the cruise."

WINE GLASSES

"I've seen a number of posts now mentioning taking glasses of wine into dinner. Where do you get the glasses from? Is this something else that we need to add to our packing lists?"

"No, you can ask your stateroom host to get you some."

"We just ask our room steward for glasses every night. On the first night we just asked for a wine opener which we kept for the rest of the cruise."

"Another option, besides those mentioned, is to pop by any bar and ask for some glasses...they are always accommodating & it works well when you don't want to wait until you see your room host. We do that or call room service for glasses through out the cruise."

Photo CD

"I was wondering if anyone who is familiar with the $399 photo cd (I think this is what they are calling it) can tell me what comes with this? We haven't cruised DCL since they have done this. Do you get any prints with that or is it just a CD like you would get at the parks if you buy it there? I am just curious and wondering if there is any way that it is worth the price. I love my photos, but this is a lot of money! Thanks for any info!?"

"You get all your photos from the entire trip of people in YOUR stateroom along with a copywrite release so you can have as many prints made as you like. Additionally, our experience has been - any photos you buy after that (on the same trip) from DCL were half price. There are NO freebies of stock photos like you can sometimes get on photopass."

"It is strictly the CD, no prints, but purchasing it does allow you to buy any pic packages at a discount....25%, I think (?), maybe more."

...and then there's the Exotic Rasul spa treament for couples ... PM birkner Noel for more explicit details

New Cruisers

2BNDisney - Blake "Okay, after seeing the price for this IGT Category on the cruise I caved and you can add me as a new guest on board. Will be traveling solo. Looks like I have a LOT of reading to do to catch up. Not sure what my cabin is yet but I am early dining. " - from Tennessee

Jana - cousin of TxMermaid1

seamour - "I am Mic, and travelling with my youngest Sarah (13) and hoping my oldest Talena (24) will get to join us. We live in MN and I was lucky enough to do the EBTA and when my new friend Monique said she was going on the WBTA, I talked DH into letting us go."

Thinking of You

colkath - Bit of a difficult day today, last night a 54kg weight fell on my foot and i ha a xray today and I have a hairline fracture. Didnt help that when I told my boss this morning I couldn't get into work as my foot was injured and even my trainer wouldnt go on his reaction was "not on, wear flipflops I cant get cover on such short notice"!!!! Surely not good management

Pixie Dust for Me! - DH had surgery and is recovering well - Keri (Karen)

Candy Swap

we're now up to 18 staterooms and 46 participants! "If there is any desire for a cut off at 20 staterooms or 50 participants per group, this is the time to speak up and I'll soon start a second group if signing ups keep pooring in."

For people with food alergies to artificial sweetner

"I just wanted to give everyone a heads up that has a food allergy to artificial sweetner, please make sure to let your server know and be VERY careful of the dessert buffet. My DH gets migraines from the stuff and on the first cruise he told the server who helped him out but we didn't think about it at the dessert buffet. We avoided the table labeled sugar free but didn't know that just because the rest of the items were not labeled as such, some of them used at least partial artificial sweetner and he woke up with a severe migraine the next day. Luckily we have medicine to help that and was better within an hour or two but I don't want anyone else to have the same situation.

On our EBTA last year we told our server who was the best. DH would order a dessert that was not in the sugar free section and our server would come out with something else. Now the first couple of times it happened we were confused but he explained that the dessert my DH ordered used some of the sweetner so he brought what he thought he would like and could have. And he was almost always right. By the end my DH just told him to bring out whatever he wanted. We avoided the Dessert Buffet for his sake (at least this year I will have people to go with to help sample some of it)"

TRAVEL CASH

What you do with the TravelEx Cash Passport card is essentially buying Euros with dollars so you can use it to get cash or as a credit card. You don't use it for hotels or car rentals as they take holds. I look it much like a debit card with a Mastercharge logo.

You can buy them online but I go to the Travelex office at Stanford shopping center which is near my house. I also added money at the San Francisco airport before I left.

At the bottom of the TravelEx Cash Passport online screen is a link which says Store Locator (which I have highighted for you here). You can go into the store or order the Euros or British pounds online and pick them up in the store. If you don't use them all, they will buy them back as long as you save your receipt. You would then have two cards, one for Euros, one for GBP.

For example, if I spend $1,006.71, I would get 655 Euros today. If I spent $1,008.31, I would 585 GPB.

Hope this helps. Any more questions, please let me know.

ST MAARTEN/SINT MARTIN EXCURSION

I've contacted Bernard's Tours to do a personalized tour on St Maarten:

Pick-up at ship at 7:45 am (we arrive at 7:15)
Drive to Marigot, Sint Martin (French side)
Breakfast and/or shopping (think croissants, pain chocolate) x 1 hour
Drive to Cul de Sac to catch ferry (10 minute boat ride)
Beach time/lunch on Pinel Island x ~4 hours
Drive to Maho Beach to view airplanes land
Return to cruise ship

I asked for an estimate for 6-12 people. This would be the cost of transport (only, I assume)

For 1-6 people, total = $350 split amongst them
For 7-12 people, price per person is $45

You would need to pay for
- Ferry $7 RT pp
- Lounge chair/umbrella (optional) at $15-20 per 2 chairs/1 umbrella
- Breakfast in Marigot or shopping $
- Lunch, beverages
- Beverages at Maho

He has air conditioned, non-smoking vans.

The main beach on Pinel island is NOT clothing-optional. (Sorry, Claire, you would need more than a top and sandals.)

I'll put up more info about Pinel Island when I've got photos in photobucket.

Looking for interested parties. - auntlynne

SHARK DIVING

"I have a few spots available if you want to do a shark dive in St. Maarten's. It will be a 2 tank dive with one of them being a shark dive. This is an awesome opportunity to see some sharks up close and personal.
If you have an interest or questions please PM me." - TxMermaid1

PALO CHAMPAGNE BRUNCH

GROUP 3, ANYONE?

We have one cruiser so far - anybody else want to join in?

Traveling Mickey Gnome Magnets

i'm considering doing something similar to this for our cruise:
http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=41701263&postcount=2362

maybe more of a travelling mickey than a roaming gnome though. what do you guys think? just a bit of a laugh, but would people join in and keep it going? i just like the idea of seeing how far he can go in two weeks.

Gnome Mickey

[/QUOTE]

Are we agreed that we can have lots of roaming magnets, then? Everyone can have their own?

"what do you all think of people doing them having different characters on them? that way we can see how many different characters we can see and sign? i'm working on either a normal mickey or captain mickey one."

It might be especially fun for those with kids, kind of a "Flat Stanley" for the ship, maybe we could write where we are from so the kids could see all the different nationalities.

I'm not sure if Disney still does it, but on our 10 night cruise the kids were given a DCL passport and they could ask Cast Members to sign it along with where they come from. We saw some kids with them and we went to the kids club and asked if we could participate ... they thought it was a great idea, and told us if we filled the book there would be a prize. We bumped into "Ducky" around the ship and asked him to sign it, which he did, and then proceeded to to draw Donald. It was our best souvenir of the trip and we paid nothing for it ... who says Disney doesn't do free

Gibraltar Taxi Tour

I had a lot of people respond to the Gibraltar tour with Paul and I hope I got back to everyone. I have even more respect for people who organize these events now as it was very difficult for me to keep the people who PM'd me and emailed me privately straight. Right now I have our group of 4, a group of 2 and a single of 1. Is there another single out there who would like to join us to make 8 in the van? Please PM if so. GatorMomInNC

Duty Free Shop on Disney Magic

"You mentioned that the duty free shop sells liquor onboard. Are you allowed to take this to your room, or do you have to wait to receive it till you disembark?"

"If you buy liquor in the duty free shop it will not be delivered to your room until the last night of the cruise. So you must bring on what you want to drink on the ship. Or buy it at the bars."

Room Photo Request

So I have a strange request. Does anyone have a picture of a verandah room as taken from standing in the hallway looking into the room. My DH is trying to be creative for our door magnet and needs to have something to work from. If you do and don't mind letting us use it as reference can you PM me? - Donaldcp98

Free Strollers

"I don't know if anyone has mentioned this or if you already know, but you can get free stroller rentals on DCL. You do have to pay a deposit, but you get it back, or maybe it is a hold where if you don't bring it back then they charge your card or something like that. Anyway, you don't actually pay! They were really nice strollers and we used them on the ship to walk around the walking track and you can take them off at ports. They were a huge life saver for us! They were nice jogging strollers the last time we were on the Magic. I also keep meaning to tell everyone with kids going to Flounders that you can max out what you think you will use in your reservations and then when you board and throughout the cruise you can add as much more time as they have available. We did not know that on our first cruise and were so sad when we found out after it was all over! They are very flexible and I'm sure that with less kids on this cruise they will have even more availability. Hope that helps someone!"

Luggage Tags

"Steve, Andrew and I travel quite a bit. I used to put a brightly colored strap around my bag so that I could find them easier. But, then the strap broke and I noticed that others were doing that so....

Well, about 2 years ago I made a luggage tag from the Mickey ears paint chips that you can find at Home Depot. I cut out a piece of paper that becomes the "information" piece of the tag and stick it to the back side of one of the Mickey's, laminate it, but an eyelet in it and then attach it with a ribbon to my luggage. It's bright, colorful, fun and, the best part, is not too many people have a Mickey Ear luggage tag!"

Character Signatures Onboard

"That reminds me... for those new cruisers... you may want to bring something like a mat picture frame or a pillowcase to take to guest services as well".

Here are some of the items I had signed on our first cruise, I can't find the Dream one's at the moment as i'm on Lee's laptop:

One tip I picked up was to give a mixture of coloured Sharpies rather than just black, it looks nicer.

Make sure you use fabric markers or laundry sharpies so it doesn't wash out (regular sharpies eventually will)

Scrapbooking

Ok so far for the Scrapbook Cove Cafe meet I have:

Claire (Pinky166)
Mary (Tod&copper)
Pat (Pflamingo)
Lauren (Namsupak)
Linda & 2 roomies (Lindababe)
Hazel (hazelandannie)
Karen (poohluv2u)

Did I miss anyone? Any one else care to join us on a sea day (to be decided) for a coffee & chat about all things scrapbooking? Let me know & i'll add you to the list. - Claire Pinky166

We will definitely have a little get together in Cove Cafe, there were some people on the scrapbook exchange that wanted to get together so once all the tastings etc are booked with dcl we can arrange a time.

- check out the DIS scrapbook board too, down in the creative community forum. There are literally DOZENS of Disney pages, swaps, books, etc for you to choose from.

I go here a lot to find inspiration for scrapbooking http://www.twopeasinabucket.com/gallery/projects/disney-theme/sortby-most-liked/ the link will take you specifically to Disney scrapbooking, but check around for more themes or just general scrapbooking if you like.

Cell Phones - International Calling

"What do you all from the States do about cell phones when you are international? I have a verizon iphone so using it internationally is not an option (unless I use it at a wifi hot spot....like an itouch)."

"I have a AT&T Iphone4. Last year when I was on a EBTA I was able to use it when in port. You should check with Verizon to see about International Roaming. AT&T has that for $5.99 a month, then it's 99 cents a minute, I then cancelled my International Roaming when I got home. Check it out."

BOTANICAL GARDENS - MADEIRA

Anyone looking to visit botanical gardens in Madeira? I have a private taxi booked with three extra places for 3 - 4 hours. - LindaBabe

Laundry

"There are several laundry rooms. It is $2 per load for the washer and $2 for the dryer. I usually end up washing at least one load if not two. I take the clorox 3in1 sheets but only use 1/2 a sheet. They don't take any room in your luggage."

"I am a big fan of Downy Wrinkle Release and always take it on vacation - great for things like Tshirts and polo shirts. Just sparay lightly, tug on the fabric a little and the wrinkles (mostly) disappear. Beats ironing!"

KINDLE BOOK SUGGESTIONS

"To my disboard kindle owners. Looking for suggestions on what book you enjoyed that was a free download. thanks Cindy"

"You can join Pixel of Ink for free and they will send you an email everyday with a list of new free books for your kindle. You can also browse their webside too. http://www.pixelofink.com/category/free-kindle-books/"

"Cool thanks, adding it to my bookmarks. Here is the other sites I check on occasion:"

Irish Dancing & GUEST TALENT SHOW

"DD Sarah (13) who is coming with does Irish dancing. In fact this week is what I call dance heck (okay i use the other word) as she has dance camp every morning 10-noon, and then 3 nights has her regular class for 3 nights. For the camp her teachers family is over from Ireland teaching, so an awesome opportunity for all the dancers. As we live 45 minutes away though the driving back and forth is wearing on me for sure." - seamour

She needs to bring her dancing shoes: there will probably be a Guest Talent Show onboard near the end of the cruise.

FINALLY, AN ANSWER

"but what does smootenloopers mean? Its such an unusual word/name, I'm curious."

"Sorry, must have missed the question the first time around. My last name is Smittenaar (pronounced just as it is spelled ). Years ago I worked as a bank teller and our head teller used to amuse himself during slow times coming up with comical variations of the name. Smootenloopers was one of his creations and it kind of stuck while I was there. I frequently use it on services like this where you have to select a login and have never found it to be used by someone else already!"

LAUNDRY SPECIAL

(EBTA): "Also there were 2 days that there was a special laundry price. All you could stuff into your laundry bag for $30."

"I think the first time was about mid way thru the cruise and the second was near the end."

BANNED ITEMS - FIRE HAZARDS

Do not bring Irons, Clothes Steamers, Water Kettles, Candles... (flammable stuff) on the ship.

Come & join us for a Farewell DIS Lunch

Come & join us for a farewell DIS lunch on the last sea day. Thursday 22nd Sept at 12:15 pm, we are not sure which of the three rotational restaurants will be open on that day, should there be more than one open I have put them in order of preference - 1st Lumiere's, 2nd Parrot Cay or 3rd Animator's Palate.

Please make sure you check your Navigator that morning to see which restaurant is open for lunch as I won't be able to tell you in advance.

Please PM me if you'd like to join, I need your first names/total number for your party, I will add you to the list and then once we are onboard i'll notify the restaurant so they can seat us together at some large tables.

We now have 104!! It is going to be a great end to the cruise - Claire Pinky166

ATTENTION EVERYONE
MORE INFO ABOUT LANYARDS

Now that I have your full attention, I just wanted to give out more information about our DIS lanyards. I have been emailing and PM'ing people who have not given me all the requested information before posting the long awaited lanyard list. What I will post is the main DIS persons name who requested the lanyards and the number of lanyards requested, not names. Please, please let me know before August 15, 2011 if you want a DIS lanyard.

I am getting ready to post a lanyard list so I thought I would repost the lanyard request instructions. Cutoff date for requesting a lanyard will be August 15, 2011

Allright-----WHO WANTS A LANYARD????
OK folks----

Let the sign-ups for lanyards Continue!!!

If you would like a FREE custom lanyard and name badge for this cruise (a great way to meet new people, identify other DIS friends, and put faces and names with screen-names), then I need you to EMAIL ME YOUR INFORMATION!!

Here is the information that I need:
DISBoards screenname: I need the DISBoard name(s) spelled and capitalized the way you want it on your name badge. For many/most groups, there will probably be only one DIS name for a group of people---that is totally fine. If there ARE multiple different DIS names/users in a group, let me know all of them but ALSO be sure to link the correct DIS name with the correct person.
First Name: Please give us the first name of EVERYONE in your party who would like a lanyard the way you want it to appear on the name badge. (Please remember that spelling counts!! The name you give here is what your name badge will say....so make sure it's correct!) Also---and this is important---make sure that the FIRST name you send is the primary DIS user under the screenname you send!
Stateroom #: Why do I need your room #? To get your lanyard to you! I will try to give out all the lanyards in the port or at a meet onboard during embarkation...but if I miss you, I need your room # so that I can deliver them to you later. If you are GTY, that's fine, just say so. There will be plenty of time later to fill in room #'s or to make changes if people switch rooms.

So please put all the above information into an email and send it to this address: dcl.wbta.2011@gmail.com

(Please note, I will not necessarily be replying individually to every person confirming receipt of their request for lanyards....HOWEVER, once I get requests rolling in I will be putting them into a spreadsheet on our website that I will link through google docs and people can view (but NOT edit) so you can look for yourself there to make sure you are listed and that all your information is correct...and then email me with any changes obviously).
birkner Noel

To the newbies

• On Villains' Night, many of us are wearing purple and/or black.
• One night, we DISers will have Mickey Mouse Club night; we are wearing Mickey ear hats and t-shirts which can be ordered from Zazzle? (check Noel's - birkner - Welcome Wagon Post)

NEW CRUISERS

IansGran - "This is my first Disney cruise, but not my first cruise. My grandson will not be coming along this time, but we're trying this out for future reference. Any tips? thanks IansGran"

chanti - "Recently we decided that we were going to be irresponsible and squander our money on a holiday, but we weren't sure what holiday that would be. So we talked of several options (Egypt, Curacao, Jamaica, Mexico....) but my husband, the former anti-Disney member of our family mumbled: I'd prefer going to Disney. Now seeing as I want to stay at least 2 weeks if we travel all the way from the Netherlands (or Holland which ever you prefer) and we tend to want to do EVERYTHING and we already had two disney holidays in a row, I thought that would be a bit much. Also, this was supposed to be a relaxing vacation (I am many things in disney, relaxing is not one of them) Until a little lightbulb went on in my head (or above it, much more visual) and I realised there was a Disney cruise heading back over the ocean on September. WHOOT!! And so I asked my husband and 4 year old daughter: Mexico or Disney cruise... I think seeing as I am posting in this topic you can guess what the answer was"

Lionessa - "I have just spent the last 2 days reading your past threads 2010 to catch up and acquaint myself. We booked this WBTA while on the EBTA in May 2011, but confirmed it a few days ago, making sure we could swing it with vacation dates.

I will be traveling with my DD (8), while DH is unavailable. For this reason we were uncertain until a few days ago if we should go or not. My name is Nancy and my daughter is Nancy-Paris. We are from Toronto Canada. This will be our 3rd DCL (#1: August 28/10--Med, #2: May 14-28/11 #3: Sept 10-24/11. ..."

SHarper02 - "We are booked and ready to go!!! This is our 1st Disney cruise (but def not first cruise)! This is a special trip for just me and my ds10... we have had such a hard year the first time it has been just us and I am just a little nevous about that...

We are so excited and can't wait!!!" - from Lexington, KY

sinnika - "the good news is that I have taken up Evelyn's offer (fly4free2) to be her roomie and will be joining ya'll!!! I'm super excited to be doing a transatlantic at last! This will be my 6th DCL cruise, all on the Magic! Our family did the Med last year, and again this year, and the kids and I stayed on for the repo cruise last year from Barcelona to Dover. All of the European cruises have been amazing! A little about me: My name is Taina (rhymes with China). Its a Finnish name as is Sinnika, my mom's alias name she would call herself sometimes. She is from Finland. My father is from Peru, and my parents immigrated to Baltimore in the late 50's where I was born and raised (one of 8 kids). I now live in the BIG state of Texas in a very small town where everyone knows each other. We're near Houston (about 40 miles west of the city) so I just say I'm from Houston!

I have 2 high schoolers and a DH who will be holding down the fort and taking care of our 3 cats while I'm gone!

I'm ready to jump into all the fun! I need to read up on all the activities, plus plan a few excursions! I have not booked airfare yet as I may decide to visit another city before getting to Barcelona. London is at the top of my list. Is anyone going there pre-cruise? I love the theatre and would enjoy going to see a musical or two.

Well, looking forward to chatting, planning, oh and I guess I need to work some to make some spending money for the trip! "

time2cruise - "Once you experience DCL it will be tough to sail on any other line! This will be our 3rd DCL cruise in the last 9 months...we are addicted!" - from Orlando, FL

HOPE THIS TRY GOES BETTER...

goofieslonglostsis - "And yep, I'm back in town. Sorta. Long story short; they couldn't get me down with the sedation. Warned them for it, but as usual it got brushed away with a "we've got enough, never seen that happen and you're just a smallish girl, don't worry". Sure. So back home with nothing done except me learning that some very basic health items are not being taken care of (will be bringing family/friends along to avoid this from now on), being horibly sick from the meds they used to try and get me down and losing a scare amount of weight. Fingers crossed I can get myself back together somewhat, in which case a new attempt will be done on Wednesday. You guys won't believe how peed off I am and made that very clear yesterday. Only 7 weeks to recover if that doesn't fail in the condition I'm in now........ somebody in that hospital isn't going to survive if I don't make this cruise if I have any say in it."

SENDING OUR PRAYERS AND PIXIE DUST TO

KrisannB - "hello everyone - I am still here and still going on the cruise but I cannot be on here or the board much right now = I was put into the hospital last week with my sugar 591 and while I am a diabetic now I was not when I went in (or I did not know it) my sugar continues to not be stable and I am cannot read the computer screen because it is effecting my eyes.

Also I need to drop out of the candy swap - could someone please cotact the person in charge of that and let them know as I am doing good to type this and cannot read )but can type (thank goodness I learned to in high school without looking at the keys!) My daughter is helping me read somethigs too. I am so sad that I have to drop out but the temptation is too much (and sugar free candy will not be an option for me as it still has carbs in it.) My children will be most disappointed but my life is to where I do not know exactly what is what right now = I hope I make it to the ship!

Thanks! we leave in 2 weeks for our trip so I am packing"

SARAH'S BACK

"HI Everyone

I am back home from my holiday in Florida and my visit with Taryn my cast member DD. I was also lucky enough to meet up with Karen ( Rikersmom ) and Lauren, James and Lorelei ( Namsupak ) for a drink and a chat while we were out there.

I am now faced with a ton of washing and photo uploading and of course catching up on the meet thread .... you have started on Part 5 in my absence I see I am sure I have missed absolutely loads of stuff and am way behind so I will do my best to catch up. I will also post about the trip in a few days once the jetlag has diminished. Now how many days until the cruise ????" - TotallyAngelic

JUANITA

PFlamingo - "... we have the show at the community theatre that night. ...

Speaking of which, we're doing "Treasure Island," so we've been surrounded by pirates for a month now. We opened last weekend, and both shows were sold out. Looks like they might be the same for this and next weekend. Dennis is the stage manager and I run the light board. And Juanita supervises us all.

BARCELONA WEATHER

"I'd love some guidelines for what you experienced WBTA cruisers are expecting"

"Well for us....last September it was beautiful the day we arrived like a nice spring/autumn day. We did Fat Tire Bike Tours the entire afternoon and had a blast. Then it rained in the evening and the next morning was cooler (needed a jacket by the beach) but by the time we sailed it was perfect again. We had lightweight jackets just in case...that's all you should need. By the time we get to the Carribbean it'll be like an over again!!!"

TRANSPORTING MEDICATIONS TO OTHER COUNTRIES

"Jacqueline, did you ever hear back from the Spanish Customs or whatever about taking controlled drugs into the country?"

"Didn't have to contact Spanish Customs as this is a trip within the area that applies the so called Schengen declaration. Simply put; I have to have my doc fill out some Schengen forms, one per med on the 2 opium lists. Next step is sending them in to a special department of our Ministry of Health who will stamp it as official. They'll sent it back to me, then I need to send it to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and have them sign it also and sent it back to me again. Should take no more than 4 weeks, but have been adviced to sent in before the 6 week mark to be on the safe side.

Any other meds for said area not on the 2 lists are allowed as long as they're legal in the country visited and in original container with original label on them."

...BUT NOT FOR KIDS

Ok just for a laugh you have to see this link for Patrick Warburton. www.youtube.com/watch?v=i3Co3c2Ydqo

It is entitled roller coaster safety with Patrick Warburton."

VACCINATIONS

"Okay, I have another question! I know, I know- what can I say? This is the first time in a while going to Europe or the islands (unlike DH) and I wanted to find out if any particular vaccinations are advised for either Spain or any of our port visits."

Tetanus boosters for adults is every TEN (10) years or "after an exposure to tetanus under some circumstances" - source: CDC

"Shots: Not needed for any of the places we go, in fact, not usually needed for any vacation spots unless you plan to stay for a longer duration--several months (usually more than 90 days) or if there is some possibility of obtaining a disease in that place that is not common in the United States (this is mostly for African countries or some parts of South America). Even if you have a tetnis booster (which is good for 10 years), if something happens to you on a trip they will likely give you another shot even if you have one. Because we are on a cruise ship, no one is likely to even ask for your passport let alone a vaccination list at any of these places (this includes Barcelona airport--for vaccination list, you will need your passport ). I would not worry about shots. We have traveled to most of Western Europe, been to almost all islands in the Caribbean, and have never needed any special shots." - Fontabel

GIBRALTAR

"We took the number 4 bus and walked everywhere last year.

We prepurchased our tickets which included a FREE Gibraltar one day bus pass from the Gibraltarinfo kiosk, located on the Spanish side of the frontier by walking to the end of the street where we caught the bus to the frontier. What we bought was the SkyWalk Combo which included Dolphin World for 17.5 GPH each.

Tour info:

If you have more time and you want to enjoy a stroll around the Nature reserve then try our 'Skywalk' ticket which combines the exhilaration of the Cable Car ride with access to the Nature Reserve including the other attractions. Take that 6 minute ride up to 412m above sea level and enjoy the multimedia tour, the views all in the company of our friendly but wild apes. After a hot or cold drink and a light snack return the Multimedia unit and head off 800m downhill towards St Michael's Cave. After marvelling at it's splendour you can continue your walk a further 900m where you can visit with some more apes at Apes Den. The choice then is to catch the Cable Car back down to town or continue northwards another 2km in the direction of the Great Siege Tunnels. If you feel up to the walk you will be rewarded by a fantastic piece of tunnelling that is more than 200 years old and marvel at the work of the soldiers who lived, worked and slept in them.
Alternatively if you are not interested in St Michael's Cave you can head north 1.6km straight to the Great Siege Tunnels from the Cable Car Top Station and then walk down into town. The no 4 bus also makes it's way up to Moorish Castle.
See maps page for details.
SkyWalk includes:
Cable Car ticket (options single or return and child or adult)
Multimedia Tour (hand held guide included in adult ticket only and for use exclusively within the Cable Car Top Station)
Apes (The apes are wild animals and roam freely throughout the Upper Rock area. However they are usually seen at both the Cable Car Top and Middle Station otherwise known as Apes Den.)
Nature Reserve entrance ticket - Entrance to: St Michael's Cave, Great Siege Tunnels, City Under Siege Exhibition, Moorish Castle and 100 Ton Gun. (this ticket must be redeemed at the Cable Cart ticket office BEFORE entering any of the sights.) The Nature Reserve ticket must be used on the same day as the Cable Car ticket, see below.)
FREE Gibraltar Bus Pass (adult or child one day bus pass). This must be collected from the Gibraltarinfo kiosk on the Spanish side of the Gibraltar/Spanish land frontier.
The SkyWalk ticket can be used on any given day within 12 months from the date of purchase. E-ticket must be exchanged at the Cable Car ticket office and is valid for the day of exchange only. The Nature Reserve ticket must be used on the same day as the Cable Car ticket." - birkner

TORTOLA - JVD UPDATE

"there is a possibility they may add an additional motorboat, and told me they would take care of our DIS standby list first if so. If you want to be added to the standvy list, please pm me or a visitor message since I need to clean out my DIS box and am almost full. They will not know about this possibility for sure until about Aug 20." - MandyGirl

Candyswap participants; newsbulletin

We've just hit the 20 stateroom mark. Which means I'll be splitting up into multiple groups. I've already got Jessicasmom and Magic123 noted down as having a preference to stay around the 20 staterooms, so I'll take that into account. Any other preferences; please make them known by PM. Only info by PM please, it's impossible to never miss a post on this thread esp. with me being gone soon again. Otherwise I will surprise you when making assignments. ;)

To give all time enough to sort things out, I've decided on a cut off date of August 7th, for anybody signing up after that; I'll add you to the list but will leave it up to each participant if they can and want to add on "last" minute. I'll supply participants with the info needed on August 8th, which would give most of us a month before hopping on our flights. - goofieslonglostsis

INSULATED CUP

Beauty & the Best - Liz "About movies, today at WDW I bought the neatest cup to take to the movies onboard. Its heavy plastic & has a removable straw and top so I can fill it with ice and whatever cold beverage I feel like. ..."

TRAVEL LITE COMPANY - ANY EXPERIENCE?

"Has anyone had any experience with the Travel Lite company with regarding to ording items for delivery to your cabin? With our to be 10th old on 9/9/11, we were going to use them for diapers, wipes, food, etc. over having stuff delivered to the ship. But, feeling a little uneasy if something were go go wrong.

Thanks for any comments and experiences."

TAXI, ANYONE?

pkicinski@yahoo.com - "We are staying at Tryp Apolo on Avda, Paralelo, paid$123 on Hotwire. Sounded nice. If you happen to stay there, PM me and we'll share a taxi."

IF YOU ARE EVER IN ORLANDO...

"I work part-time at the WOD, so please look for Karen if you stop in. Like the cruise, there are about six Karens in the place. My name tag says that I'm from Malvern, PA--I consider that my home town since that's where my sons grew up.

I'll look tonight to see what characters and colors are available." - Rikersmom

AND THEN THE SHOE TALK BEGAN...

and my other favorite Christian Louboutin shoe:

I tend to wear Stuart Weitzman now as they fit my feet better.

Wow they are gorgeous, here's my favourites that I would love to get a hold of

Speaking of Jimmy Choo's, if I had a spare $700.00, which I obviously do not, I would buy the Jimmy Choo black Ugg's with all the studs on them. I absolutely love, love, love them. I saw a woman wearing them and it crossed my mind to pull them off her feet. Of course, I would never,Ever, EVER do that. Maybe someday. Of course if I ever did have a spare $700.00 they probably will be out of style.

WOULD YOU LIKE TO PUT IN YOUR 2 PENCE?

"I mailed DCL about on my conformation suddenly 0,02 euro cent balance due appears. I get a mail today that is was suspended."

DISBOARDS PM - PRIVATE MESSAGE - CLEANUP

If you are saving information in old PMs: "Just a FYI, have you all seen the post right at the top about PM's. They are going to clear out all our old PM's 6 months or older."

SLEEPING WITH FANS AND WHITE NOISE

"I need to find a good small fan that will travel, too. Neither of us can sleep in silence - it really is deafening. We have to have background noise!"

"We have friends who take a sound machine everywhere. We were going to buy one but my iPad has an application now on there for the same. "

"It is called WhiteNoise." "That app is £1.49 (Approx $2.50)"

VILLAINS' NIGHT MASK

"I wish i had time to make my own but ellie keeping me too busy, so i had to just buy ours, i have added my own embellishment though if you can spot it:rotfl2:"

DISNEY TRANSFER PORT CANAVERAL TO WDW RESORTS

"You can take Disney transfers direct from the cruise ship to your resort."

"We booked by DCL the transfer from Port to our hotel/resort in WDW for $ 35,- pp. To the airport it was more expensive. You can phone them for price and book it.

The free Magical Disney Express is only from airport to hotel/resort and back."

TIPS - CASH OR CREDIT

"This question was actually asked on the DCL forum a few weeks ago. Someone asked whether the CMs prefer cash or credit card (which goes to their paycheck). Several current and former CMs as well as several people who were good friends with CMs and asked them all reported that in general, they prefer the tips to go to their paycheck. Two main reasons given were 1) many CMs send the money home to their families and it was much easier if it was in their check rather than having to transfer the cash. 2) They didn't have to find a way to secure large amounts of cash onboard. However, all that being said, I'm sure they prefer a cash tip to no tip!"

LONDON/KENT PRE-CRUISE MEET

"...we live in London. Maybe we can have a meet on Thurs/Fri if ppl will be around like the BCN guys. cliffy97 Dan

"Possibly Bluewater on a weekend? ... Ok so shall we pencil in Sat 13th august for around 3-3.30pm at Bluewater?"

WATCHING PLANES LAND OVER MAHO BEACH, ST MAARTEN

Flights are arriving on September 20, 2011. There could be a JetBlue flight, but I couldn't find a ticket and didn't bother going to OAG to see the schedule for that month. They are listed as coming in from JFK at 2:12 pm today (Tuesday, July 19).

1100 ... KLM ... Amsterdam ... 747 **

1330 ... Air France ... Paris ... A340 **

1333 ... USAir ... Charlotte ... 757

1340 ... AA ... Miami ... 757

1545 ... Insel Air ... San Juan ... MD83

** these are the two big-boy jets; the 757 and MD83 are narrow-body jets. There are various island hopper prop planes, too.

Looks like optimal viewing would be between 1:30 and 1:40 pm. Our ship leaves at 5:30pm and the bridge between Maho Beach and the ship is open (lifted up - blocking traffic) at 3:30.

Calling all Pin Traders!!!!

Some of you may have seen on the Facebook page that there are quite a few pin collectors/traders onboard. It has been mentioned that due to luggage restrictions people don't want to bring all their traders with them so i've created a separate thread just for us to post photos of our pins and agree trades now, so that we only need to bring the pins we've traded onboard with us. Plus it means we won't take over this thread or the facebook page with lots of pin photo's. ;)

Hope to see all you traders there.....http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2762877
