I included everything we'd purchase as a "grocery item" in my $400-$450 (food, produce, paper/plastic products, wine, beer, pet food).

Fess up....What kind of Wine are you buying?????? :rotfl2: ;)

We spend around $125-150 week. This includes dog food, cat food and litter, and rabbit food and bedding as well as toiletries.

Between $200-250. It would be a good bit more, but we eat lunches out and eat dinner out probably 4 or more nights a week. That's a family of four with a dog, cat, and bird.

I can't get my grocery bill under $100 for the two of us. Usually it's about $75-100 a week and about $125 every three weeks or so at BJ's for meat and paper goods.

I think most of it has to do with the lack of planning. I usually go the store and buy the basics and then pick up 'whatever'. It's 'whatever' that puts me over the edge. I don't have the time or the energy to plan better....I try but I can't just seem to do it.

I'm thrilled to be spending 100-150 for DH and I. Since DS another football player left for college I've been so excited to leave the grocery store under 300. I knew he ate alot but didn't realize the cost until he left.

Hey Stevo!!
Nice poll!
1st - You buy pet food at the grocery store?? My fussy boy only likes the good stuff so that isn't included in my total.
2nd - Wine and beer are not weekly purchases - frequent maybe - but not weekly and usually not at the grocery store.
3rd - My total includes everything else... but not our eating out (which is about 6 times a week - divided between breakfast, lunch and dinner) or DS eating hot lunch at school.

All that said we spend pretty close to $300...
sad state of affairs for a family of 3. :sad2:
It's not my fault! DH has a rib eye fetish.

Wow. I just can't imagine spending $400 a week on groceries. I don't think I could if I tried! What do you buy?
Food, laundry soap, etc. Same stuff you buy. I think we're about $420, which comes out to about $84/person. But each person isn't using $84 worth of crap.

DH is a big eater, and there has to be beer, of course. I eat an average amount and DD eats almost nothing.

But the boys! OMG! Like I said, they eat everything. If you have a big, muscular 16-18 year old playing footbal, he has to be counted as 2-3 people...that's how much he eats!

So, we're 5 people, but as far as eating goes, we're:

DH - 1.5
Me - 1
DD - .5
DS - 3
DS - 2

We're more like 8 people. In a year or two, we'll be 9. :) In 5.5 years, we'll be 2.5

My husband is a big eater, too. I didn't count our lunches (dh eats out, I eat school lunches :sad2: , and both the boys eat at their schools). Maybe that makes a difference. Also, we're not big seafood or steak eaters (well, dh would like to be), so that might account for our smaller amount, too. Oh, and on the rare occasion that we buy liquor, it's rarely at the grocery and almost never in with our weekly groceries.

I'd say we spend $75 to $110 a week for 2 people, 1 adult cat, and 1 kitten--groceries, house items, cleaning supplies, and cat supplies. On top of that we spend about $60 to $85 a week on eating out and take out.

We average about 200.00 a week for a family of four. That includes all 3 meals a day (we all pack our lunches) and 2 large dogs. Now I do also feed another "daughter" (my youngest DDs best friend) nearly every weekend too. She is spending at least one night a week here.

Planning is HUGE...
I've planned meals the last 2 weeks and have gone from $150 to $80.

It averages to about $100 or so a week.

1-2 trips to Costco a month- about $200-250 (buy a lot of our meat, TP, paper towels, frozen foods, snacks here)

Weekly grocery trip- $50 (produce and fillers for meals, like noodles, rice, french bread, and if stuff like yogurt is on sale; I have recently converted to the excellent method of writing a grocery list on Sunday, according to what I have planned for dinners for the week- sticking to the list, I rarely go over $45; I also plan according to what is on sale)

That doesn't include trips to Target where I usually buy diapers, dish soap, laundry soap, etc. About $50 a month.

We are a family of 5. My oldest son buys lunch at school, and I don't have that included in this sum either.

It's just me, and I really don't eat much (though you wouldn't know it to see me), so I only spend about $30-$40 a week. I budget for $200-$250 a month and I'm happy that I'm coming in under that!

I voted $200-$250 - most weeks I am just under $250 but many times I will get to $260 and up to $300.

We're a family of 5 - no pets - my kids are little 3, 5 and 8. My youngest is still in diapers so that's an extra $20 a week - but honestly I make no attempt at all to "cut down". If I did I could probably get to just under $200 a week.

Just wanted to add to mine that I eat lunch out usually one time per week, and that is not counted in the total, and DS gets free breakfast at school.

I do plan my grocery purchases - I choose the store I am shopping at that week by the specials and I also use coupons. I do sometimes go to two different stores to get the best deals at both. I have a very detailed household budget, and I stick to it. If I go over in groceries, I have to take money from something else, so I rarely go over.

We spend about $150 to $200 every week on groceries and toiletries for a family of 5. We eat out alot though. DH and I eat lunch out once or twice a week. I pick up dinner alot from very bad, so much so that I can not name it place. I am sorry to say. In my defense some of the fast food is healthy (Subway, spinach artichoke pizza). Also, because of hurricane Katrina, my two older DD's school has no cafeteria. They bring lunchables, south beach diet wraps or turkey sandwiches.

Besides stopping for fresh fruit and produce I don't go to the store every week nor do I have a budget for those kinds of things. I guessed $50-100 based on what I spend when I do go.

Our bill is about $125 a week for a family of 4. That also includes cleaners, toilet paper, paper towel, pet food, etc.

And yet, we get no pictures to rate. :confused3

I voted for $50-$100, though I could easily see it getting higher since DD is just starting to eat real food.
