Weekend Trips??

We live 9 hours away [9.5 with bathroom breaks] and we have done several 3 night trips. I have to stay at least 3 nights to recover from the drive and have enough energy to do it again. LOL! I would take Friday off and make it a 3 night trip. We usually leave right after work on Thursday and go straight to Disney. We arrive about 1 am. THen we have all day Friday and Saturday and part of Sunday. it is not ideal but we have done it a few times. :)

Nevertheless, I personally wouldn't want to drive 7 hours each way. Those long car trips are something I'll only do if there is no alternative. It's uncomfortable, and my son is gluten-free, which makes getting food on the road almost impossible. And since we usually travel as a party of 2 (and WDW would be a 2-day drive for us with a hotel stay required midway), flying is cheaper than driving for us, anyway.

Also, not everyone feels the need to arrive at an airport 2 full hours early for a domestic flight. I certainly don't. I arrive about 1 hour to 90 minutes max before a flight, check my luggage, then breeze through TSA precheck & onto our nonstop flight to WDW.

Understood, and please do not think i was attempting to be critical in any way. Different things work for different people. I completely understand not wanting to be in a single seat in a car for a long period of time. When it comes to my family, we are just drivers. My kids grew up traveling back and forth between NY and DC, Boston, NC, etc.

Traveling by plane (which I have done a lot for business over the years), allows you to get up and walk around, read, work on a computer, etc.

Just pointing out the pros and cons of each way to travel.

I will point out, however, I know two people recently (since May), that have missed flights due to a security line at one airport, and a car accident blocking access to another airport.

There are a lot of variables to consider, but I do try to point out to people that if you are planning a trip of about 400 miles or less, you may have various options if you are simply talking about time.

This is our first year of having annual passes and now we are wanting to go every chance we get(can never get enough of Disney).

We we're thinking of possibly leaving Friday after work and coming back Sunday. It's about a 7 hour drive for us. We've never done just a weekend trip to Disney before so I was curious if anyone has taken a true weekend trip to Disney that had a 7+hour drive to get there. If so, how was it and was it worth it?

This is what I like to call "Several Annual Pass-itis" and you have a bad case! LOL! (So do I anytime i buy and AP....makes my husband crazy...LOL)

7 hrs each way would be a bit much. The poor person driving would be tired once they got there and need time to rest. Not to mention if you get caught in a traffic jam that makes the drive longer. And think of the wear and tear on the car just to enjoy a weekend trip. I would look for a near by airport that has a good flight price
