Weekend of April 18 - Why is everything booked?

I was thinking of taking my son for a special b-day trip April 17-19, but I'm having trouble finding anyplace with availability that Friday night. I've tried Carousel, Desert Inn, Tropicana, BWPPI, and no availability. Isn't Spring Break over at this point? Or is that normal if you're trying to book only two months out?

It's still spring break for some of the schools. When is Easter this year? Is that when it falls? And yes, booking on 2 months out it is fairly common to run into this once you get into the warmer weather seasons.

Also try the online sites like expedia and getawaystoday (or is it getawaytoday) - sometimes they have groups of rooms that have already been purchased. Maybe you can find a room through them.

Easter is mid-March, so that's why I thought I'd be safe.

Ah, ha! That's probably it. Since the weekend before isn't as booked up, I figured the next weekend would be even better... wrong! Now I know why. Thanks!!

Since my kids have winter break next week, Easter is too early for another week off. So my children have off the week of April 21st for spring break. The schools in our area (NY) are either off that week or the week just before.

Yup - half the school districts here are off that week in April and half in March. Then there are the year-round schools and I can't figure out those schedules.

You also have the Long Beach Grand Prix happening that week from April 17th through the 20th, So there are probably people staying in that area as well and then traveling to Long Beach.

My fiancee and I scheduled our LA trip around the Long Beach Grand Prix as we are racing fans. We will be out in LA from April 12th to April 20th and going to Disneyland on April 13th and then flying back home Sunday night after the race on the 20th of April.

I checked this hotel this week they had the week open for about $95 average. It's across the street.

We often book last minute at Best Western Park Place even when it shows full on line. Call them as there is often rooms but not online. Its not always the case but many times this has happened for us.

There is also a Banner (finance sytem for higher education) conference which starts on the 13th. I am attending and staying until the 19th.

April 16 - 21st We booked over 1 month ago at the Ramada Inn Maingate as the Camelot ( Stayed there twice, and loved it!) was already booked! Got a good deal 5 nights for the price of 3! $98.00 a night. Only there to sleep and maybe the kids will swim.Anyone stayed here recently???

With all the conventions/events, maybe the occupancy of the motels in the area aren't a total indicator of how crowded it will be. HOJO had vacancy but not the Ent. rate. DH wasn't thrilled with this brilliant plan of mine anyway, so I may just have to wait until May.
