Weekend Lunch

I was just talking with a friend who makes a big lunch on Saturday and Sunday every weekend for her family, and it got me thinking about other family's weekend lunch habits. Everyone in my house usually just makes what they want and eats at different times, we never make a meal for lunch, we usually reserve that for breakfasts and/or dinner. I have another friend who usually just cooks a large batch of chili or soup and leaves on the stove for the day so her family can eat whenever they please. So what do your weekend lunches usually look like??

About half-and-half it's "get yourself something" and "eat out". This depends on whether we are already out on Saturday running errands (if so, we eat out), and on Sunday whether we have stuff to do at home after church (if not, we eat out).

Ours is varied as well. If we're out, we grab a bite; if we're home, we make what we want, whenever we want. Unless you have a ds like mine: mealtime is all day, every day. :rotfl:

I generally prepare lunches if we are around. Stuff like chicken breast burgers, cool salads with chicken, salsa chicken and nachos, interesting soups with good bread (all we have here is Panera), pastrami sandwiches, egg salad, tarragon tuna salad, BLT's made with turkey bacon. I've found that if I don't put a meal out all my family does is graze on garbage all day.

I prepare something for the whole week end, usually. It may be red beans and rice with kielbasa and cornbread or tacos with the fixins and black beans. The family just goes and heats it it up on Sunday when they get hungry. There are fruits and veggies to snack on too through out the day. We may also have lunch out if we have a special day planned.

It varies depending on what is going on.

Saturday may be whatever you can grab or it may be fast food. If Dh is leaving out early Sunday morning, I try to cook something but it may just be hamburgers or something else easy.

Sunday almost always is a big dinner after church. Either dd and I go out, we eat dinner at my mil's or I cook here--all depending on who is home and who will be here.

I like the idea of making a big pot of something and letting everyone heat and eat at will. That would solve a lot of the "who is going to be here" questions of what to cook.

Saturday's a definite grab and go kinda day. Eat out, eat in whatever suits everyone. Sunday's I do try and cook a nice breakfast and a good dinner.

We go out every Saturday for lunch. A bad habit.

Saturdays we get bagels for breakfast and then eat lunch and dinner out....Sundays we go out to breakfast and then I make dinner around 2 if we are home--if not then we eat out then too! We don't stay home much on weekends- thats "fun time" we are out go carting, movies, the city etc...

"If you want to eat, get off your butt and make yourself something."

Yea, we just eat whatever, whenever.

Saturday is a whatever day! Sunday - we always have a big breakfast and either a big lunch or big dinner. :thumbsup2

We mostly do fend for yourselves on the weekend. If we are out running errands we may stop for lunch but it is mostly leftovers or simple meals at home.

Saturday lunch everyone makes their own - usually sandwiches or canned soup. We have a regular dinner on Saturday night.

Sundays we sometimes stop for fast food for lunch. It's amazing how many people we run into at Costco eating hotdogs/pizza - sometimes it seems like half our church is there! If we don't stop I try to do something easy like grilled cheese sandwiches. Sunday night is often breakfast for dinner.

Saturday is game day most of the year. I usually cook a big breakfast. For lunch, we grab something at home, but if the game is anywhere near lunch, we just grab something out. along with half of our community.

I follow my mom's rule. She cooked almost everyday of the week. Saturday was her off day. It was out to lunch and something like subs or grilling out burgers on Saturday night.

Sunday is always a big meal for dinner.

This issue pops up at my house all the time. I grew up in a fend-for-yourself kind of house like yours, DH grew up in a Mom-puts-lunch-on-the-table kind of house like your friend's. We just sort of baffled each other at first, but eventually we got used to it as just different backgrounds, and we have days of both. - He's getting better about remembering to eat if I'm not home, and I'm getting better about making something special sometimes.

it depends on who is home and what's going on. it's kind of just what the house feels like at the moment. if they want a specific meal and my mom can make it, we'll go to the grocery store and whip it up. if we're impatient or she doesn't want to cook, we go out. that applies to all meals, but usually breakfast isn't a big deal, because we really like bagels lol

We have a hot luch everyday. I don't like cold lunches & my kids don't either so I always make something even during the week.

If it's Saturday, then it must be Subway!!!!! A weekly habit we have developed!
Sunday we try to have a 'nice' (read naughty!!) breakfast - something like pancakes or toasted fruit loaf with BUTTER!!! Then we tend to skip lunch and have a 'carpet picnic' for tea (bread, cheese, cold sausage, pate etc)

Saturdays we are rarely home, so we just grab whatever, whenever, depending on where we are.

Sundays we are often at our beach club, and we'll just eat there. On the rare occasion that we are home, we make something simple (burger, quesadillas, homemade pizza etc.) and cook a good dinner.
