Since our girls are getting older now (7th & 9th grade this year) it's getting harder for them to miss school for a vacation, boo hoo. This year we have a new school superintendent and we will be getting a whopping 9 days at T'giving (from weekend prior through the weekend after Turkey Day). I'm seriously thinking arrival on Saturday the 21st and depart for home on Wednesday the 25th. We'll be driving as we're only around 7 hours away. Onsite (of course, probably HRH this time) so we'll have fotl. Will it be a zoo? I know "the Motherland" (thanks macraven ;)) will be chaos, but how about US/IOA? Is this even thinkable, much less doable? I had concidered going early on the 20th and trying to squeeze in a MVMCP at the world, but that may be jsut too much. Any and all advice welcome!!

going before the thanksgiving holiday is a decent time.

the crowds will be there on that thursday and thru the weekend.

if you are staying on site, no problem.
use your hotel card for the express lines.

i'll try to pull up some older threads where posters talked about being at universal last thanksgiving time.

Thanks, you're the greatest. I realy didn't think there'd be a problem like there would across town, I hope that the parks might be decorated a bit too. I know I was a little disappointed back in November at the GF when the gingerbread house wasn't up even though there was a party scheduled for the night we departed. It seems like they get later every year decorating, and earlier about taking it down. We were at YC in Jan 2 all decor up, got up the next morning and everything was gone.

The weekend before Thanksgiving should be fine as the crowds are still fairly low. You shouldn't have any problems with crowds until after Thanksgiving...the weekend after is a zoo.

We usually go for Thanksgiving week and the week before is very quiet. I don't think we needed our FOTL until Thanksgiving day. :thumbsup2

Disney, was a whole different story. :rolleyes1

Thanks, that was what I was hoping for. We were at Disney over Veterans Day weekend last year and it was a nightmare. Thankfully it was not our first trip (more like our 21st, lol) so we were not too bummed to not ride anything in EPCOT (it was that bad), but it was just the hoards of people. We stayed at GF, buses were so so, but we had to wait, with ADRs at Nine Dragons, a notoriously dead restaurant that we always eat at, for 30 minutes! THe only downside to US/IOA is the fact that they close the parks at 6 nightly. I had thought we might do a CHristmas Party at Disney but they have one scheduled for the night of the 20th, not another till the 29th. IT would mean missing an entire day of school to arrive there in time for the party.

Thanksgiving week is our favorite time to go. Our kids always get the whole week off, so we go from Saturday to the following Sunday. Saturday through Wednesday - you pretty much have the parks to yourself. Wednesday afternoon, the crowds start checking in. Thursday, still not too bad because people are having dinner or still arriving. Friday through Sunday - where the heck did all these people come from?

Thanksgiving buffet at Trattoria is fantastic. PBH usually also has Harbor Lights on the Friday after Thanksgiving. This is a fabulous wine/food tasting on the Piazza capped off by the lighting of the Christmas tree. It is popular with the locals and any celebrities that might be in town. I found myself chatting with Liv Tyler waiting in line for champagne one time. (Knew she looked familiar, but couldn't place her till they announced later that she was there.)

Although Grinchmas is not running yet, most of the decorations have been up, or are up by the end of the week.

Also keep watching for discounts. Many times we have found outstanding discounts released a few weeks before Thanksgiving for the Saturday through Wednesday.

 Hi

I figured the menu thread was either mine or DSMom's, but got to admit I didn't click on it  . Both of us are Tgiving fans! :goodvibes
