We have booked a 1 bdrm DVC through points rental at AKL for Oct 3-13 and friends are trying to book a studio for the week of Oct 7th to join us. The agency they contacted said there is no availability other than SS for that week. Does anyone know what is making the week so popular other than the Columbus Day long weekend? Do you think they would have better luck looking at a one bedroom or the weekend prior? They are looking at a 5 day trip. They will be one (possibly 2) adults and one child so really don't need more space than the studio. The other option is for them to book a standard room through Disney but they were hoping to be able to eat some meals in the room.

Thanks!

Amy

DVC Members can book 11 months out at their home resort. At 7 months out members can book at any of the DVC resorts. This very often means that whatever is still left at any resort disappears quickly at 7 months out. At 6 months out or less, like we are now for that time in Oct, it is often that the only thing left is SSR, although usually you can get something at OKW, and AKV standard or savanna is also often open. However, there is a second issue you are now facing. DVC demand is a different animal from Disney in general demand. DVC's highest demand times of the year are Oct through early Jan. In other words you are trying to get a reservation at a peak DVC demand time.

There is the food and wine festival, halloween party, etc. That initial weekend is also the same time as a ToT 10k race.

We try to go every October.

Most member book October through early January at 11 months out to get what they need. Then at exactly seven months out, they try to change to another resort if they want to stay elsewhere. You are already at six months out. Studios go quickly because they require half as many points as a one bedroom.

I'm gonna bet that SSR is going to be it for studios, one bedrooms, two bedrooms, anything (but not a tree hours villa). My guess is that nothing else is going to be available. And if they want to book on points they need to book now or never.

As mentioned above, alot of activities. I think there is a huge convention that week (Gartner dates=Oct, 6-10). I've found the Colombus Day weekend to be the busiest weekend of October.

If it's important to be at the same resort, and if your friends are willing to pay more, try for a 1 bedroom. 1 bedrooms fill up more slowly than studios.

Good luck!
