We are planning our next Disneyland trip and will be going in the summer this time. I have seen conflicting things about road levels the week of fourth of July. Can anyone who has gone over that week the last couple of years give me insight on what that week looks like compared to other weeks in July? I have heard some say it was emptier than usual because locals go to the beach, and some say to not go that week. We will have a great time no matter what, just trying to optimize which week to go.

...so what you are looking at is a holiday anomaly...if the 4th was on thursday thru tuesday then folks here, even I , would say avoid, because of the geography of Disneyland, everyone can make a four day weekend of the holiday, using only one vacation day for a short summer vacation. Travel by car a popular choice for the 4th because everyone is leaving the metro instead of heading into the metro.... the fact that you have see reports of it being busy also makes it a good choice, for indeed it has been busy once again because of the 4 day weekends. But now it is a wednesday, always the slowest day of the week, it is in the middle of the week, so no four day weekend.......and everyone has heard that the 4th is busy, so folks, like you, will avoid that week, making the other weeks more crowded.

I’m struggling with the same choice. We are planning for a week in CA, split between Disneyland and San Diego. I can’t travel for most of August due to work obligations & a family wedding, and my kids don’t finish school until the end of June, so we’re left with July for our summer vacation this year.

If we go the first week, we’d most likely fly in on June 30th, do Disneyland from July 1st-3rd, then drive down to our friends’ house near SD on the 4th. I can’t decide if that’s a good idea, or a crazy one. It would be better for me since I’d only have to use 4 vacation days from work instead of 5, since the 4th is a paid holiday. But I’m also worried about traffic & crowds that week.

....the best days in the park will be 3th,4th and 5th just for the very observations that you have made, knowing that where ever you are on the 4th, you will be spending the night at that choice. It is summer and more folks are taking advantage of the weekends then week days, where as if you read about the Christmas holidays, more folks where in the parks from m-F, then the weekends, granted, Christmas has been a weekend holiday for the past several years, but once Christmas is in the middle of the week, folks will choose a M-F rather than include a weekend.

We are going the first week and July! We can not wait, and will be using the maxpass! Disneyland is always busy now, and we just go in with that mind set, and have a great time!!
