:confused3 I had read on the disboard that the marathon would be this weekend but in previous years no problems - WRONG! When we arrived at Epcot on 1/8 (Sunday) traffic was awful. Cars and runners everywhere! Okay we'll make the best of it. We finally got into Epcot and needed to find a bathroom. The runners were in the park running!!!!!! We crossed in the correct crosswalk dodging runners. Then trying to get to the bathroom I was yelled at by one of the "monitors". I was so embarrassed!! Everybody was looking at me. Why do the runners have to run through WDW???? Every park was crowded that week but we had a great time anyway!! Thanks for letting me vent!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree about the congestion in Epcot. I have to disagree about the rest of the parks beiing crowded during the week. Compared to July, it was empty. we didn't wait more than 20-30 minutes for anything!

Erin, I was comparing the crowds with the last time we were in WDW. That was January of 2002. Our wait then was maybe 15 -20 minutes. But this trip we never waited for anything longer than 20 or 30 minutes!! Which was also not long!! We have also been in June - YIKES!! Very crowded and alot longer waits!! We love homeschooling - we can go when we want to!!!

WHY DO RUNNER'S HAVE TO RUN THROUGH THE PARK? Because it is the Disney Marathon! Ugh!

Exactly! Isn't that the whole point of the WALT DISNEY WORLD marathon?? :confused3 Runners train for a year to run a marathon and people are complaining that it ruined 2 hours of their vacation? I guess I don't get it. And for future reference, the WDW half and full marathon is always in January. The dates for 2007 are Jan. 6th and 7th.

Not to threadjack, but...

Krista -

I run 1/2 marathons at this point (best finish about 2:40, just like yours) and am planning my first full in WDW next January! I just wanted to say good luck in your training. My next half is the indy Mini Marathon on May 6th. You should try that one some time (I see you're in Cinci) - it's the largest half in the country.

We were at Epcot on January 8th and were very pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to get around. We did take Disney buses from our resort instead of driving, but our bus hit no extra traffic at 9am. We spent the entire day in Future World and didn't wait long for anything. I had considered moving our trip to a different week because I was so concerned about Marathon Weekend, but we never encountered huge crowds anywhere, including the Pop Century food court.

Tonya--I would love to run Indy, but I'm doing the Country Music half on April 29 and my first full at Disney in January. Gulp. :) Head over to the Wish boards, we have a running/walking club for people training for races.
