Week After Turkey Day Shenanigans

I just read in the Star Wars thread there is a rumor that the star wars fireworks/show may end on October 1st. Seems really unlikely since they JUST finished those projection towers. But it's Disney, so you just never know. I will be SO BUMMED if there is no star wars nighttime show now. that was a huge draw for us :crazy2:

Bummed won't describe it. I will be furious!! No parade, no star wars.....ugh

I figure if we do it, my oldest DS who loved SDMT can ride it on a loop for an hour, while DH and I take turns taking the little one on PP and WtP. saves us 2 high value FP and we can eat and head to Space to get in a ride or 2 early on as well.

My dh will think I'm off my rocker if I suggest this...

I'm sure mine will too. Need to find the right moment to tell him I booked it haha.

We are going to a concert tonight for a band he LOVES and I don't care about. Those were $150, so surely he can't argue with my Disney plan. Muahahaha

It's prepay right?

Took me forever to figure out it was in dining... and the search was useless. Anyway... so glad the HS ones are on Saturdays - that was the only one I was worried about since we are doing HS on Monday 11/28. There is a MK one on our first MK day (11/27), but I'm not that worried about that - we have a few days there.
Sounds like we have similar days planned! MK 11/27 and HS 11/28!

I am glad that EMM doesn't impact RD very much because there is no way I can change ADRs with 13 people. So we will just have to roll with it.

Why would they cancel SW fireworks? Do they realize too many changes at once will turn people off just as much as no changes in forever?

I refuse to get worked up over that article. The person who wrote it has ZERO insider information and is only going on a calendar that continues to update late as it has ALL YEAR. This is nothing new. I don't believe Disney would be so stupid as to cancel Star Wars events on the eve of the release of Rogue One. They just wouldn't.

Agree. Since I have been following the Star Wars thread, this seems like how things have been working for a while (not scheduling very far out)... this may be the new normal.

Ok I think I've lost my mind! Somehow I ended up looking at this online link to a house a friend has stayed at in Kissimmee (about 7-12 miles from the various parks). I'm suddenly considering canceling our whole FD package and booking this house instead. Tell me what you think. DH thinks I'm nuts after talking about nothing but staying on site for the last year. I contacted the owners and they recently had a cancellation for that week so they're holding it for me for 48 hours.

It has a bedroom for each kid, a playroom and a private screened in pool. Rough calculations on tickets and parking at Disney, plus the rental of the house will put it at being 1-1.5k cheaper than our Disney FD package but with one night more than we currently have. So even if we still do lots of meals oop we would at least break even if not save money, but get an extra night for the trouble of being off site. I'm interested in it because we are already driving so we'll have a car to get around. Our own private pool for a week! And the kids having their own bedrooms and being separate from us means we can relax and have a drink in the evening and hopefully we'll all get better sleep with the extra space. But...sacrificing being on-site. Meh. What to do?!

I hated when we stayed off site. I hated driving to the park and not able to go back to the hotel in the afternoon. My sister wanted to stay off site to save money this trip and I pushed to stay at a resort because it is their first Disney trip. I am assuming you have stayed on site before and would know what you were missing by staying off resort.
I am a list maker, make a list of the pros and cons of each one and then your answer will probably pop out at you.

It all just depends on what you are planning to do. If you prefer downtime and space, then it might be worth it since you already will have a car. But be sure to consider the cost of parking too!

Your first visit dot com would say stay on site for the Disney immersion. Plus, when we went with our kids, they loved the pools at Disney resorts. They played with other kids and did the fun activities that are planned daily. And we still relaxed and had a drink...hee hee

We have stayed both off and onsite. When it was just DH and me, offsite was fine. However, with kids, I much prefer to be onsite. I would much rather leave the driving to Disney, especially at park closing when everyone is tired. To me convenience beats a little extra space.

I think with younger kids the buses are SUCH a big perk - being dropped off at the park entrance, especially at the MK, can't be beat.

DH hadn't been since he was 4 and couldn't remember anything. I thought for sure he would not be pleased with the bus situation, but he was so happy to be on those buses even with the kids and double stroller when he saw the lots and stuff. He said that and the charge for parking make it so he will only want to stay onsite with kids. Yes it saves a lot of money, and yes you get SO much more space which is great. But being immersed in the bubble is pretty awesome )

I definitely think for the kids' first trip I'd stay onsite. We were so glad we did!
