No, it will not be slow. DLR has increased its holiday peak time through the Epiphany the last couple years because most local school districts have increased their holiday time as well.
This year peak Christmas season went through January 7. The parks had extended hours and holiday parades and fireworks through that time. We were in the parks Jan 7-11 and while the the most crowded day was definitely the 7th, and we experienced smaller crowds the rest of our visit, but I wouldn't call it "slow".
If you're looking at the few days (the 2nd through the 7th) immediately following New Years, then no, it won't be slow. Last year that week was pretty packed, though it slowed down the closer the weekend got. The week after that, then yes, it will.
i was there this past year the 2nd-7th and if i remember correctly, the 7th was the most packed because it was the last day for holiday decorations. But the other days were fine. HTH
The week after New Year's is a total nightmare - we were there on the 2nd and it was so crowded that they sold out in the afternoon, and from what I heard, the rest of the week was just as bad. If you can, wait until the second week in January.
I've read so many conflicting opinions on this time frame. We're thinking of being there Jan. 4 - Jan. 8. I'm thinking the 4-6 will be busy and the 7th and 8th will be much, much slower .
I'm hoping to utilize HydroGuy's rules for the busy days with fastpasses, getting there early, staying late, etc. I'm also hoping to do parades, Fantasmic, fireworks, DEP on those days, then come the 7th and 8th have a little more time for strolling and riding more rides .
Am I delusional or does this sound like a doable plan ? We were there during Presidents' Day week this year and it was busy the whole week . How do you think the crowds will compare?
