Wedding toast

Is there an etiquette custom to follow about who gives the toast at a wedding?

DD and fiance have asked her dad to do the toast for their wedding.

I thought the best man was usually the one to do the toast, but this is her fiance's second marriage and his brother did the toast for the first wedding, so he doesn't want to ask him to do it again.

Anyone have experience with this?

Any sites on the Internet for toast suggestions?

I can say I have seen even the MOH do the toast. I think its fine either way.

What I've seen is usually the Best Man gives the toast, however, the wedding in which I was MOH, I gave a toast as well.

I think it's a lovely idea.

Tell dad to welcome new son-in-law to the family, wish them happiness, long life, much love and be done. Toasts are best when short and sweet.

When oldest DD gets married in July youngest DD (Stitchfansjr) will be the MOH. Can't imagine her giving the toast since she is only 12, very shy, and very quiet. Best man will be DDs future BIL who is only 16.

Looks like one of the parents will have to make the toast or there won't be one. We will see.

I went to one wedding where the Best Man made the toast. But the toast barely mentioned the bride. And the guy went on and on and on. It was really rather odd. The guy talked about college, parties, their bachelorhood. Everyone was kind of just staring at him.
It wasn't planned, but the bride's older brother got annoyed and stood up and gave an impromptu speech much more appropriate to a wedding (Guess it helps to be a morning D.J. IRL)

My feeling is that speeches should celebrate the occasion and the couple. If they chose your DH, I think its sweet.

The best man and maid of honor are who did the toast at our wedding. We also made the big mistake of telling our DJ to not hand the mic around. There were some lovely words said by some folks but, there were a couple of toasters that I must have had the "What the heck" look on my face when they were toasting.
