I know you will probably think I'm silly, but I'm very nervous about planning a wedding on one of the islands. What if there's bad weather and we can't dock? I can just see me coming home from this cruise still not married! LOL

We're thinking about getting married early Saturday morning in Port Canaveral before boarding the ship. Has anyone done this or heard of it being done? I'm looking online, but most Florida destination weddings seem to be for Key West.

I appreciate any advice, help or whatever. :)

OK, I'm intrigued and I'll try to help -

I found a list of churches in Cocoa Beach, Florida in case you'd like to contact one to ask about being married in one.

Here's the link:
Cocoa Beach Churches

And if you wanted to look for something like a Justice of the Peace, I found the City of Cocoa Beach Website.

This is a link to the webpage of the City Government that has the names, titles, phone numbers, and email addresses of the city's employees:
Cocoa Beach City Government
If it were me, I'd start with the City Clerk.

Finding a map of Cocoa Beach is the easiest part, don't worry about that until you've chosen the place.

I'd be willing to bet they've been asked the same question before, so they should know where to direct you to.

I hope that helps, I'm intrigued now and I'd like to help make sure you come back 'an honest woman' :D

can you get married on the ship? I really don't know but would check in to it. You know - like on the "Love Boat" ?
Anyway, congratulations on your upcoming marriage! :) :) :)

I don't think you can get married on the ship but I know their is a wedding package where you actually get married on CC. It's an extra $3K/couple. It's explained on disney's website.

Al...thanks, I wanta be an honest woman too! LOL I am checking some of those sites and numbers today!

You can't get married aboard ship...only renew vows. We considered getting married the weekend before and doing that, but it loses something!

There are two problems with the Castaway Cay wedding Disney offers. Well, three if you include price!!! :earseek: First, what if we can't dock because of weather!!!

Second, it isn't until Friday. I don't want to wait until the end of the honeymoon to get married! LOL And since we are taking 5 of our children, we figure we better get married at the beginning for propriety's sake!

Why don't you try calling some of the hotels near the port and see what they do for weddings. Most have an events dept and perhaps even a gazebo or something for receptions. Years ago I looked into hotels near us and one had an archway to put by the pool and another had a gorgeous fountain courtyard. Great places for a ceremony, and they could probably set you up with a minister or justice of the peace. (thought in Florida you just need to be a notary to marry someone) Good luck, and let us know what you find out.

We, at the DIS Boards, have our very own Angel in Cocoa Beach area!! Have you considered contacting Shirley at The Perfect Gift for some help with a Cocoa Beach Wedding. I bet dear Shirley would have the 'Perfect' suggestions!
;)

You can find her telephone number and email contact info on her website at www.theperfectgift.cc

Actually I have spoken with Shirley! Let me get her permission, and I'll share details! :Pinkbounc

Let me hint that she is a angel indeed!

We are having a WEDDING before we know it --Joanna you are getting one heck of a wedding and something you will remember forever sweetie and it is not going to cost an arm and leg - Pat and I are sitting here right now planning yours and Ernie's BIG day - Pat bakes wedding cakes so you will get a cake and then a send off to your honeymoon cruise --I am so excited my stomach feels like it is laced with Mexican jumping beans ---------------we are going to have fun --- anyhow got to get back to my planning a special gathering for a special couple.

Call me :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Well, I guess I can share now! LOL I had written to Shirley for advice and/or suggestions. Before I know it, she offered to marry us!! She is a Notary which is fine in Florida.

Now, as you can see, she is helping us with the whole thing!! Is this gal an ANGEL or what?? I am feeling so incredibly blessed right now it is amazing.

Shirley, I don't know what to say. You have made possible something we were pretty sure we'd never be able to pull off! I will have to share our whole story with you so you can understand how much this means to us!!

Shirley and I will keep you all updated! Thanks for all the suggestions!

FAWN & SHIRLEY

We are looking forward to hearing ALL about the plans and the actual event!! Pictures??

Maybe other DIS cruisers would be able to plan weddings or vow renewals with Shirley's help!?!?!

Hi there,
I have been very blessed to have married many couples and blessed they are still married - been a notary for 45 years - gosh that is a long time - anyhow got it down pat - now disboarders - come up with awesome ideas - they are flying around already here - this young lady deserves the best and gonna do my darnest that it is pulled off ----Normy suggested in front of the Magic -----we will do something that will be remembered for eons.
Hugsssssss to each of you and especially to you Fawn.
Always
Shirley

having had a chance to meet Shirley u people r in safe hands
she is very sweet ............ peter

Wow, Shirley! I had no doubt you'd be able to help Fawn make sure she's an "honest woman" before she gets onboard, but I had no idea you were a notary and that notarys can perform marriages in Florida. How cool is that?!? We're going to have to figure out how to do a live webcast of this wedding!

DAVE--Good idea! That would be so great.

Hello my buddy Dave,
I have been a Notary since I was 21 years old - I felt like a real big girl in Key West when I became one - my aunt sponsered me at the time to do since she had been one for eons --I have married a number of couples, but I always had to know this was it regardless - there were times I didn't not do it for the feeling was just not right - I have never charged - my request was always to stay as happy as they were on that perfect day and to pass the blessings --anyhow you know me I am so sentimental and life is so short - happiness has to be captured and kept for before we know it --we are no longer a part of the world - also I have always believed -"What memories do I want to leave behind to be remembered by" Look at Mr. Disney - he left behind an oddessy that will live forever - in the beginning it stood for everything he believed in --he was an honest and fair man that swore by mom and pop stuff - oh well time to get off my band wagon - I think Sherry should be here and we do it up good - you know I luv ya guys -----take care and hug the family for me including yourself.
Always your conch buddy
Shirley

Wow --- I can't wait to hear all of the details - and see the pictures!! Gee, I wish that I was going on that cruise ----- what a DIS meet that could be! LOL.
Ummmm --- I guess the wedding dress won't be Lime Green???:D

Sounds like this is a second marriage for both the way Fawn is talking. And anyway the Bride can wear whatever she wants, so why not a lovely KEY LIME green--in honor of the Conch-Shirley and DIS?

Is this cruise booked? If not, maybe more of us should try to go and/or come to the port for the wedding and sendoff. I can see a SEA of BUBBLES around Fawn and Ernie and the kids....

Jan :earsgirl:

When is the big day??? I wish I could just drive on down with my bubbles -- but it is a little to far for me!;)

Now for some ideas -
How about Mickey and Minnie as best man and maid of honor?

My goodness! Live webcasts, a whole cruise, bubbles and lime green???:earseek: That'll show me not to ignore the board for a day! LOL

OK, the cruise is January 4th 7 day, so the wedding is the morning of the 4th. We'd LOVE to have you all come! Shirley, just how big a wedding cake can Pat make??

Yes, this is a second marriage....just ask our NINE kids! :D We'll have the 5 youngest there for our big day and for the cruise. We'll even have my Navy son home from overseas with us, which will be a special blessing!

As for lime green....well, umm...how about the garter??? :smooth:
