Wedding photos

Hello all! I am in absolute awe of the great work that is being shared in this forum. I am learning how to be a better photographer, but my real passion is in graphic design. I am creating a 'storybook' wedding album using our photos from Disney photography, Patken photography, and friends. The only problem is I don't have a lot of backdrops for my pages.

Would anyone be willing to share their high res. jps of Cinderella Castle (day, night, and fireworks, the Contemporary, the Wedding Pavilion, the WP Beach, the Animal Kingdom Lodge, the Polynesian, and Ohana.

My aim name is mandi7581. I'm looking for pictures that are at least 300 dpi and 8" by 8." I'd really be in heaven with some pictures that are 16" wide so I can do a double page spread.

Here is some of my work so far..

First Scrapbook Page-Photos by Patken. Borders and color work on background and left picture by me.

I'm very new at using photoshop for picture editing and scrapbooks but I'm having an absolute blast with it. Any help with picture would be very much appreciated! Thanks :)

Please send me a pm if you would be willing to email me pictures and I'll send you my address. I also have a yahoo briefcase that i can share.

I'm still holding out hope that someone will share pictures with me. Please!! :)

I scanned through my pics to see if I had any. They may still need a little PP work for your needs. Let me know if you would like any of these in a higher resolution. They are only 3MP images, so not as large as you would like. I have not had a chance to take my new DSLR to WDW yet. I can get them to you tomorrow evening if you like any.

You can take a look through my Disney gallery in my signature. The June 2006 pics will have the highest resolution (more than enough for 16" wide). If you see any PM me and I'll email the original file. Avg size files are about 4MB.

Thank you, thank you! The pictures are beautiful. I'll be sending you guys my email. Thank you again, you totally made my night!

When my brother got married last year, he hired a photography student from the local university to take his wedding pictures. The student did not cost as much and agreed to give my brother his negatives for little or nothing afterwards. A professional normally charges $1000 -1500 for them.
I’ve just got engaged myself, so I’m looking to save money when I get married (I didn’t realise that a wedding costs this much!). Anyway a few ideas I’ve come up with to save money on a wedding photographer are to use a student from the local university or TAFE like my brother, or to give out disposable cameras to our guests.
Students may not have the experience of shooting hundreds of weddings, but they will have a fresh and artistic eye and capture some of the greatest moments.
My only problem with hiring a student is that I will want to see a portfolio of their work and create a working contract. I’ll also want to make sure that they know how to work with large groups of people. It might also be best to specify some general outlines of what needs to be done on the day. E.g. when taking a photo of the bride, include her whole dress not just from the knees up.
The other option to save money was to place a disposable camera on each of the reception tables. That way the guests can take photo’s of each other. It should reduce costs and hopefully provide a more personal touch to the pictures.
Anyway, those are the ideas I’ve come up with in regards to saving costs on a photographer. Does anyone have any more ideas? Can anyone see likely problems with my ideas above?

Having spent a ridiculous amount on our wedding photographer (though we have amazing photos), I think hiring a student is not a bad idea. But, I wouldn't put all your eggs in one basket with one, even with a contract. The students are not in business so they do not have insurance, or anything really protecting you should they change their minds or make mistakes. Maybe hire a student, but consider having a backup plan should something happen.
We did the cameras on the tables thinking we would get great shots of friends and family. We ended up with poorly taken photographs of ridiculous things, bad lighting, no flash, etc. Most of the cameras were not used up, maybe 10 pics per camera. For us, it was a waste for few decent pics.
I personally would suggest going with a no frills professional photographer who can give you references, has samples, and has insurance. Maybe just have him shoot the the ceremony and half the receptipn, giving you all the photos, and negatives. Since all the important stuff usually happens in the first few hours of the reception, you might be able to save money that way?

Personally, I would just cough up the money and hire a professional. Look around for photographers who are looking to build up their portfolio. IMHO, you get what you pay for.

So let me guess, you are the groom to be?

How does the bride to be feel about skimping on capturing the memories???

NO way will disposable cameras take the place of professional shots. plus you have to pay to develop the film just to find if the pics are any good, unless you get disposable digital cameras.

you can go back to disney next year, you can even drop out of college if money is short, to go back again in a year or two. But you only get married once..... well once per person.
A good photog will not only return great pics but can handle the crowds of family staging the pics, won't peek under the dress while fluffing it and much much more. Our photog, after the church pics, scooted to the park to reserve a spot for our pics. he was third in line, it was a popular spot for wedding pics.

I am not so sure I would skimp on the photographer either.

DH and I have been married for 20 years and we are so glad you have our photos. The food - we don't even think about that. The cake - same as the food basically. Favors - and all of those little extras that seem so important after the day they are done - gone - not important at all. But - your photographs when it comes down to it that is the only tangable thing you have left to look back on - to show your children - to use set out on the table for your 25th wedding anniversary celebratioon - or your 50th. ;)

Cut down on the flowers, get a friend who has a great music system provide the music for the reception. Have the reception in someones back yard - but don't skimp on your photographs - your love and the memories they provide are the only things that last past that one day.

well, speaking as a photographer, and as someone who has been married twice. I'm not so sure about wedding photographs. I have never looked at either set after the wedding. the first wedding, I didn't care to look at them at all, did have one on my wall but it is all put away for my DD from that marriage. My 2nd wedding was really low-key and I have some cute shots that a photographer friend took but I never really look at them either. I know generations form now they may be something to look at like I enjoy looking at my grandparent and parents photo's from when they/I were young but I never look at my wedding photos.

now as a photographer, if you really want some great photo's something to show future generations and to post around your house and show off, then don't skimp on the photographer. Talk to somone you know you can't afford and talk to someone that you can afford. Look at the quality of their pictures and see which you like better. go with the photo's you like the best. If you don't like the pictures or the syle of the photographer, then don't hire them.

You could also go to photographer forums and see if anyone on their wants to make some money and get some portfolio pieces rather than a school. there are a lot of forums on photography magazine websites and also on some printing sites too. One that I visit frequently with some great starting photographers from all over is on Mpix.com maybe you'll see something you like and pop onto the general discussions board and see if there is anybody interested. they'll have contracts and things like that.

mate, you may want to fix the links on your wedding photography page. are you looking for suggestions, or reasons to give your customers why they shouldn't use someone experienced??

personally, i always recommend photographers who have a decent portfolio - especially of the ceremony. most wedding photographers start by working as a second camera for established and experienced shooters.

We went with a friend's wife who happened to be a pro wedding photographer... she had her own small company (one-woman shop) and did a perfectly acceptable job, didn't charge too much, and we got the negatives.

I'd definitely shop around to make sure that you can get the negatives... or, nowadays, I guess you'd probably be getting the raw digital photos! (Assuming that the photographer doesn't shoot in jpg, which I'd hope that they wouldn't.) I was married back in 2002, and some people still used film back then. Imagine that!

I got married in 06, and the shots were on film.... It does still get used.

With the OP's grand total of one post and a link in the signature, I think this is a spam thread and the mods should delete it.

and are some of my favs....

The poem in the picture is the following......

Just once upon a yesterday
I held you in my arms
You grew into a little girl
with lovely childhood charms
Now it seems I only turned around
And I see you by his side
Oh, I can't believe my eyes today
My Daughter is a Bride

I guess somehow I always knew
This day would soon be here
Still I wonder as I look at you
What became of all the years
And no words could ever quite express
The way I feel inside
Oh, I can't believe my eyes today
My Daughter is a Bride

All the laughter and the teardrops
The sunshine and the rain
I would relive every moment, Dear
If I could bring them all back again

But now, My Love, the time has come
To send you on your way
So I wish you every happiness
And the blessings of this day
And I hope the love I've given you
Will forever be your guide
Oh, I can't believe my eyes today
My daughter - Oh, I can't believe my eyes
My Daughter - Oh, my angel and my pride
My Daughter is a Bride

The bride and groom were so nice. MOB hired me, I work with her in the winter. I had met the bride for all of 5 minutes once and had never met the groom. I hope all my weddings go this easy. There were only about 50 guests or so here so it made my job even easier.

those look fantastic! i see that you are in new hampshire... if i ever get married some day i'll keep you in mind! ;)
