Wedding is over, what should I do with my dress?

If you buy your dress at David's Bridal they give you a discount on dress preservation ($60 off).

My grandmother had her mink stoles made into teddy bears for each of her grandchildren. I thought it was a unique way to preserve something that she loved, but couldn't pass on to just one daughter or one son. A teddy bear can be in your family for generations, especially if it's adorned with beads, lace, fabric, etc. from your wedding gown. You could make several for all those future children and grandchildren! Who knows what the future will bring?

My grandmother had my greatgrandmothers (both her mom and my grandfather's mom's) mink stoles made in to teddy bears also for each of us (me and my two siblings) and my mom. I never thought to do that with pieces of my dress. That's a great idea!

We sort of preserved it ourselves. Mom and Dad sent it to the cleaners to have it cleaned. She made sure they fully cleaned it, not just spot cleaned it. Then they bought a preservation box, and put it in there. I specifically mentioned they made sure it was fully cleaned because when I was getting married we thought I might use my mother's veil. When we opened the box, and picked the dress up, it practically disintegrated in our hands. There were stains on the dress which were obviously champagne or something like that. It was horrible. My mother was beside herself. My grandmother had paid a lot at the time to have it "preserved" and they didn't do anything. We salvaged some of the lace on the dress, used Oxy Clean, and she has that. I pinned a small piece of it into my dress.

This forum was so helpful! I have been wondering what you do with your gown afterwards. You have all given me such great ideas!
