Reading through all of the threads and books from what I understand my guests will need to stay in Disney accommodation for us to have a Disney wedding?

Is this the same for the Swan and Dolphin?

The only time you need to have guests stay at Disney resorts is for Disney's Wishes Collection, and even then, you can set up a room block with a minimum of 10 nights that you might even fill all by yourself just with your honeymoon. They have also been known to work with people who have many local guests or guests staying offsite so that they don't need to book any rooms at all. The Escape and Memories Collections have no room-night requirements for guests, only the couple.

Swan and Dolphin wedding do not require your guests to stay at the hotels either. :thumbsup2

Thank you! I like the idea of the Swan and Dolphin. We have a photographer who was with us for the proposal and a friend who can perform the wedding so it seems like it's our best option. :)

lurkloo saves the day- yet again!

as she noted a wishes event you must have a min number of nights.
usually a good portion is taken by the wedding couple. As you would most likely show up a few days before - to work out any last minute details.
And it's also very common the wedding couple sticks around after the wedding for honeymoon or a few days to enjoy the resort.

with that in mind you can easily have the 10 nights on your own
even if you had 5 nights...wishes has a minimal number of guest
so even if each guest couple took one night at a Dis resort
you only need 5 couples to make your min number of nights.
which by the nature of the wishes event- you will have more than 5 couples attending.

the key is not a minimal number of rooms
it's a minimal number of NIGHTS

while this is not "official"
if you don't fill the room block min number of nights.
Disney will usually just charge you a extra fee for not being able to fill Disney rooms.
we have been told this by our DFW planner.
As majority of our guest are coming from Australia...it's an expensive trip no matter where they are staying.

Since a family of 4 will spend $10,000 - $12,000 just to get to where ever the wedding is. Then add rooms, food, and other cost...it adds up.
This is where our planner suggested paying the fee for not booking up the min number of room nights.
Therefore, our guest can use their timeshares and don't feel obligated to stay at Dis property at a premium price.

This helps! I was confused by the wording on the DFTW site that went over this part. Thanks.
