Wedding Favors?

One year (a LONG time ago... 1988?) friends got married at Christmas. They had an enormous Christmas tree at the reception, covered in hand-made ornaments. The bride had a "victorian" shop so she made all the ornaments herself, from lace, ribbon, fabric, ribbon flowers, etc. Guests were invited to take the ornament of their choosing, and we still hang them on our tree; I think of Phil and Laura every Christmas, and wonder where life has taken them.

See now that would be cute!- the one we went to had the bride and grooms names and wedding date on there---who the heck wants to hang an ornament with other peoples names on it on their tree????

I wouldn't mind an ornament with the B&G name on it. I would just think of them every year I hang the ornament.

Our wedding was November 1996 and we gave a ceramic church with our names and date of wedding. Plus my mother crocheted a bell ornament in my color scheme.

Wedding favors didn't seem to be a thing in 1976 central Michigan when we got married, or at least we didn't do them. The other four weddings I've been to have been in Austin -- no favors there either, so either it's not done here or the people Mrs. Tex and I know are cheapskates.

It sounds like the edible/drinkable favors are the most popular, and I can see why.

My niece got married one month ago. The favors were pint jars of home made jellies and jam made by my mom. She was canning most of the summer and there was quite an assortment of flavors. They seemed to be a huge hit.

Most people from the Chicago area are familiar with Garrett's popcorn. One of my favorite favors was a beautiful bag filled with Garrett's famous cheese/ caramel mix. I didn't see one bag left on the table that night!

That's gotta be the best favor EVER!!!

We did the candy buffet...I got the jars and containers at thrift shops and the candy at Costco/Sam's. Stamped the gift bags with a custom stamp I had made for the wedding.

I'm not a fan of knicknacks or anything with the bride and groom's name or date on it...unless you are a sibling or parent, there isn't much reason to commemorate that date in my opinion.

When we got married we gave our guests dinner and an open bar. No favors at all. We did place candy corn and fall color M & M's and Hershey Kisses on the tables in little glass bowls and printed matchbooks on the bar but nothing "formal" for our guests to take home.

We went to a wedding 2 weeks ago and there were little drink mix pouches (margarita and hot cocoa) that had a printed sticker with the couples name and wedding date and the sayimg "A Perfect Mix". I thought that was cute.

We did not have much to spend on favors...I don't like knick knacks, no room for them in my house. Anyways, we named our tables things having to do with our history together, and we donated to a different charity in honor of each table...for example, our college friends were seated at the FSU table, and we donated to some FSU scholarship fund, we had a Disney table and donated to Give Kids the World, etc. People really liked that the donations were unique to their group...I think they appreciated the time/ thought that we put into it. Our table names were in picture frames, and in each frame we tried to include pictures of the people sitting at that table.

At my second wedding I wrapped See's truffles (all different flavor) in nice wrap and had them placed at each plate.

My cousin had chocolate bars made with a bicycle on them. They met in a bike riding club. My niece had koosies with their names and the date on them.

My daughter got married in June- the favors we did were a 4 piece assortment of chocolates from a local chocolate company here in Ct- Munsons- gold box with peronalized ribbon

One of the chocolates was the favorite of her grandmother who recently passed away.

The boxes were at each place setting and were part of the decor on the tables

I appreciate any favor that the bridal couple gives as a thank you to their guests- don't understand the comments about leaving them on the table or tossing them

I just went to a wedding where they did just that. It was in the brides signature color (purple) and had their names on it. Somehow, we got 4 of those! I don't even want one, let alone 4!

DH andI didn't have a big wedding (long story lol) but in 2009 we had the wedding (vow renewal) we never had and always dreamed of at WDW

We didn't do traditional favors for our guests. We had a silhouette artist and each person (or family if they chose that option) got a silhouette of themselves and it was given to them in a nice frame. It was a huge hit and went perfectly with where we had the reception (the Grand Floridian). The artist presented DH & I with a book that had copies of everyone's silhouette and each person wrote a message to us under their silhouette. It was so beautiful and my favorite keepsake!

Just married! We had a fall themed wedding! We did boxes of Garrett's Popcorn and Andrew's Carmel Apples. Both were a huge hit. Not a one left over.

My favorite was a candy bar....we went through with a little bag and filled it with whatever we wanted.

Yes! The candies were the bride and grooms favorites when they were kids. Very, very neat idea and the table with tall glass containers filled with candy looked great too.

A recent wedding I went to did a donation to two charities that were important to the couple (the JDRF for the diabetic groom and an organization that helps rebuild homes in New Orleans that the couple had volunteered with every year) and a card at each place setting explaining the organizations. They also had silicon JDRF bracelets. I loved that idea. A better use of $ than some small chotchskis.

Another wedding I went to had the table numbers in a cute frame and everyone took that home.

I've been to lots of weddings where candy/baked goods were the favor.

Another one I've seen recently that I thought was pretty cool was a little tree sapling. (I think someone else also posted this idea further up the chain). Guests got to take home a little tree and plant it in their yard. I thought it was a great idea because it is lasting, useful, and very environmentally friendly.

That one I would leave on the table- spent thousands getting rid of all the trees in my yard so I could have full sun, not planting new ones!!

Just wondering if you have gone to a wedding lately, did you receive a wedding favor? Or is this a regional thing?

My ds went to a wedding here in NY the other week. I did ask him if he got a favor. Usually he gives me things he gets like little candles etc.

This time he said he got a little box with some Hersheys kisses in it. Guess he must have ate them!

Anyone get anything really unique or special if you got anything at all?

The past couple weedings I've been to:
One had personalized cup holder things? Those sleeves that keep drinks cold? It said something cute about love. It was filled with candy

The other one had shot glasses that had something personalized on them as welll

I'm getting married at Disney World next week (omg!), and we're giving everyone a couple of Disney pins. We're big pin traders, so we figured that we'd share that little bit of us with everyone!

My favorite favor ever was a little chinese take out box for taking home wedding cake! I'm almost always too busy or full to enjoy cake at the ceremony, it was an awesome treat when we got home

Lots of weddings but 2 favors stand out. One was a box of Petits Fours from Divine Delights. That was over 15 years ago and I order them now all the time. The other was a donation in our name to a children hospital. That was my favorite.
