Hi there! This may seem like a silly question but my finace and I are having a wedding at Disney World and I'm curious as to how I should transport my wedding gown? I'm kind of worried about checking it. Any suggestions? Thank you in advance.

Hi sweetie
I, too was never going to check in my precious dress, so I purchased a wedding dress travel box from Ebay. It was designed to be the exact dimensions allowed for hand baggage and came complete with acid-free tissue paper and our names and date printed on the front. I had my dress boutique pack my dress carefully into said box and it remained safely in there until we reached our resort room!! I was very tempted to get it out and try it on again, but the shop had packed it so neatly and I wasn't entirely sure that a would be able to get it back in again so well!!!
I travelled from Manchester to Orlando with the dress safely in the overhead locker (within my sight!!!) and I didn't have to leave it once or check it in. My dress was a fairly typical wedding dress with a train and we had no problem with fitting into the specially designed box.
Just google 'wedding dress travel box' and I am sure many will come up. I cna give you the link to the girl who made mine if you like, but she is based in the UK and I assume you are in the US. Give me a shout if you would like the link.
HTH sweetie

I ordered my dress at the weekend and the lady in the shop said she will pack it for me in a box suitable for hand luggage which she will provide, like others on here there is no way i will be checking it in!
I havent picked a huuge dress but the lady said no matter what the size she would try with all her might to squeeze it into a hand luggage box. I am going to contact Carolyne Allens to have it de-creased when we arrive x

I also purchased a box to have my dress packed into for the plane ride. We leave in 7 days, so I can't yet tell you how it worked! ;) Back when I was at the beginning stages of planning, I emailed Joanne's lady from ebay, but she would not ship to the US from the UK. I found a company in the US, and I would be happy to share it if you want it! :goodvibes

I sent mine to Carolyn Allen's Bridal & Tuxedo FedEx and then they brought it to me the morning of the wedding, picked it up after our Magic Kingdom photo shoot, and UPSed it back to my house. Best service EVER! :thumbsup2

If you don't mind me asking, how much was it to ship to Carolyn Allen's. I'm not sure you if shipped from U.S. or UK but I will be shipping from CT. Thanks!!

I shipped from California to Florida, and it cost something like $23 FedEx. Carolyn Allen uses UPS for return shipping, so that cost me more - about $30. :thumbsup2

Is it possible to only ship your dress there, to Carolyn Allen's, and home again, without using the preservation services? The website was pretty vague on the shipping and hotel drop-off of the dress. This service though, shipping it, sounds so much more convenient than carrying my dress on the plane and such. I am leaving for FL in 4 days..hoping this would still be a possibility-to mail it.

not to crash this thread, but do you girls think this is possible?
I am in CT too, I thought I would bring my dress with me, will they just come steam it then pick it up after the wedding, preserve it and ship it back?

I am also debating trashing it in a pool, will they still pick it up, clean it and preserve it the best they can and ship it back to me? I know obviously trashing it you wouldnt bother to preserve, but I figured might as well, idk!

Thoughts?? :goodvibes:

Just a note to all you girls who are just needing your dresses steaming - don't forget to consider Lori from 'Loftis Productions'!!

She came to my resort room and did an excellent job on my dress and she was cheaper than the other alternative too!! Highly recommended!!

Yes—that's what I did. I think most preservation services are a scam, so I did it myself.

However, CA usually wants you to ship 2 weeks out. If you only have 4 days, I say ship it FedEx straight to your hotel and insure the H out of it. :thumbsup2

In that case, it would be more like you're buying preservation from them and want to have them come pick it up for you—I'd call them directly to see if that's a possibility: (407) 238-2722

The name of the company is Foster-Stephens, Inc. I just picked up the box from the bridal salon yesterday. My dress, veil, and slip are all inside...can't believe how easy it will be to carry on the plane!!:goodvibes

I think I just got really lucky with my flight down to Orlando. We flew Delta and I just carried my dress on in a big white wedding dress garment bag. The flight crew were amazing to deal with. They didn't want me to have to fold up my dress and it didn't fit in their little closet. So, my dress got to hang up front with the pilot. It was pretty cool. :)
